NADA! Skikkelig skikkelig goerr by. Ingenting aa finne paa..

Men neida...

Hello everyone, sorry if we are quiet on the Facebook front, despite it working very temporarily in Mui Ne it turns out most places with internet have issues accessing it at all. Turns out that the Vietnamese Government don't like it and so have very quietly blocked it through most internet providers. The journey to Dalat was not without discomfort, unexpectedly the Bus Driver only saw fit to stop the bus to stock up on cigarettes and not to let us paying customers stop to visit the loo! A seriously bumpy 5 hour journey ensued up into the mountains on a pot hole filled road - something like what we experienced on our 4x4 ride in Malaysia. It's fair to say that Natalie was rather uncomfortable for 3 and a half of those hours! Dalat seemingly ... read more

We checked in to our Bangkok airport hotel for our 3 night stay whilst waiting for my Mum and Peter to arrive. We took a taxi to Khao San Road, where we had visited 2 years before. It hadnt changed much apart from there seemed to be alot more street sellers and stalls set up along the road. We bought a few bits, nice and cheap compared to Malaysian prices, and then took another taxi to the massive MBK shopping mall. The mall had been closed for the past few weeks due to all the protests and had just recently opened up again so there were lots and lots of sales on. The mall is about 6 floors, 5 with shops and markets and then the top one with a cinema. The place was absolutely massive, ... read more

OK, I was three days in Saigon, but for me there was not so much. Of course night life is very lively in Saigon but that was not my thing this time. The thing that I remember best is the traffic. Crossing over the roads is interesting, because there are motorbikes, cars and cyclos. And a lot of them. There is over 4 000 000 motorbikes in Saigon, and they all are on the road at a same time. Only way to cross the road is to move slowly but constantly, and no sudden moves. If others can anticipate your moves then there is no problem and they can go around you. One sudden move and there will be accidents. The war museum was impressive place also. But now I’m in town called Dalat. Dalat is ... read more

Dalat didn’t really have much of interest. The things I had wanted to see it turns out were hour’s drive away so I skipped these and spent the day in the hotel room where I forced myself to do nothing but watch TV. ... read more

We left Saigon for the Central Highlands. Winding our way up through the mountains on our periless trip taking us to Da Lat. Da Lat is the Vietnamese's honeymoon capital. In our case it was a big disaster, it was cold, damp and had torrential rain. Tara caught an awful cold and spent most of the few days there wrapped up. The rain was relentless so we gave up and headed for the coast. All the photo's we have are on the road from the bus, it really was too wet to do anything while in Da Lat! We slowly watch the clouds disappear as we head down the mountains. Oh, to see the sun and sea again! ... read more

The sleeper bus is not as horrific as it sounds - it's only half full and I manage to find somewhere to put my legs. Before we know it, we're bouncing along a coastal road into Nha Trang at about 5am, with a big orange sun rising through the window. The beach is bustling with hundreds of people swimming in the sea and doing aerobics on the promenade. It's like we've stumbled on a secret world of exercising Vietnamese. Couple of hours to wait for our connection (that sounds a bit jet-set - basically it was another bus), which then takes a few hours more. We arrive in Dalat later that afternoon, bringing to an end a marathon 20-hour and 740km journey. Two severely numb rumps. We scoff some tea at a recommended canteen, packed full ... read more

We go out for breakfast and on our way back bump into the group that we bumped into at Sihanoukville and then at Ho Chi Minh. They have bought bikes and are making their way, a la Top Gear, up to the North. From the stories they tell us it sounds like they are having a great adventure. We’re off on a sightseeing trip this afternoon. First stop is the Crazy House and I instantly fall in love with all the quirky rooms and features - in fact, I have found my dream house! After that it’s a visit to a waterfall. I have a go on a roller coaster, where you control the car yourself (Rik gives it a miss as he’s a bit worried about the health and safety implications). It is great, driving ... read more

We had booked an open bus ticket (on a VIP bus!) to take us from Ho Chi Minh City up through Vietnam as this meant we could get off the bus at our chosen stops and we didn’t have to worry about booking onward transport. We chose the option that would take us to Da Lat, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Hue and finally Hanoi. This would involve two stages being undertaken at night on a sleeper bus, so we were keen to see how good these would be. Our first destination for a couple of nights was the city of Da Lat, nestled amongst the hills of the Lang Bian Plateau and formed around the man-made Xuan Huong Lake, which would see us at an elevation of just under 1500m. Unlike the steamy Ho Chi Minh ... read more
