Hey everyone, how are you all? Sorry its taken so long to update one of these things, but I'll try and catch upo on them soon. So, after a very sad farewell to Phangan and some good friends we met, we finally managed to leave the Island...and head straight to the other side of the country to another one! This time we headed to Koh Phi Phi, which is famous for being the amazing setting for The Beach, and also unfortunately for being one of the islands hit by the Tsunami. When we arrived there we were recommended the US Guesthouse by a guy we met earlier on our trip, so we headed for there with a guy on his moped and effectively a little wheelbarrow strapped to the side of it, and he took us ... read more

Bangkok has been my base for the last few weeks and as I have been before I have not written about it. For those of you who have not been here and for those of you who have here are a few pictures and observations! * Bangkok is highly polluted and traffic rules BUT it is better than Delhi. * The express boat along the river costs 13Baht maximum and is a good way to see some of Bangkok and get around. * Remember to get a taxi driver to use the meter - it is usually better than any deal. * If a tuk-tuk driver offers you a tour for 20 Baht be prepared to go to a tailor's shop so he can get his fuel voucher. * It's hard to walk quickly in Bangkok ... read more

Hey everybody! Falling behind a bit with the blogs..sorry! So we stayed on Koh Phi Phi for 4 days, having taken the hellish overnight journey from Phangan :-( night ferries aren't cool unless you're sleepy Will, with his magical ability to sleep endlessly anywhere! Having arrived about midday, 16 hours aftr we lft Phangan we checked into U.S hostel, about 5 mins from the centre and the pier.. Crazily, Craig the Canadian guy had recommended this place as a basic place to stay, and by luck we ended up there! Even weirder was, on our first 'try to get to know the place' outing, we were spotted by Heather, Lucy and Claire - 3 English girls we had met on Phangan when they stayed next door to us! We arranged to meet up th next day ... read more

The following day we once again sheepishly approached the information desk (being fairly sure they were laughing at us regarding the spider) and once we managed to find the only English speaker working there we asked if the leeches were everywhere and if there was anything we could do to combat our new arch enemy. Once again our question was met with a big smile, and we were informed that they aren't poisonous (she seemed to miss the point of our query) and that they happily drop off once they've had the fill of your blood. The crazy woman actually seemed quite fond of them! With this useful information Monique decided to give the jungle a miss, whilst I devised a cunning anti-leech mechanism (trousers tucked into socks) and set out on the same "walkway" we ... read more

Herroh yeah. I was taking a public bus from a town SW to Kanchanaburi. 3 hour ride maybe. No AC with all the windows open and every seat full. I am standing in the back with my pack on the floor. I hear a cell phone ring and a weird voice answer "Herrohw" I hesitate and then look back to see that it's the monk, yes a buddhist monk talking on a cell phone riding a public bus. It's an interesting world we live in. Nothing is left to/ for the purists. But I have to share one of the really cool things i saw while in New Zealand. And this will apply to a few of you with some excuses of sort. I was put-putting up Aurther's Pass last month, (this pass rivals Red Mtn ... read more

Hello, Hope all is well with you and things are good. Here's an update on me, hope it's not too much to read! Well, here we go again. Time to play catchup on what i've been doing the past month or so. Hope you're in for a bit of a read, but hopefully not too long, it just depends when the caffeine wears off. I'm writing from the same place that i wrote my last group email: Bangkok. No, I haven't stayed here the whole time (as i would have shot myself already), but am back to the travel centre of southeast asia to go somewhere else. Last time i ended off my email by saying "I'm off to the beaches!", which it turns out i was lying. So at the time I was hanging out ... read more

(Kev) I will dedicate my half of the blog to Swena. Matt is now back safe and sound at home, we had a blast traveling with him for about three months and have many adventures and memories to share for years to come. It has almost been a month now sense he has gone, time fly’s by so fast, I look forward to traveling and camping with you again Matt…lets not forget those goals we have set, and keep the adventures coming. Bangkok was the last place that all three of us were together. We spent over a week there, really not doing a whole lot…but sometimes that is exactly what a traveler needs. What we did do was shop like giddy little girls. I am not ashamed of this because Bangkok offers ridiculously good prices ... read more

We signed up for a snorkeling trip to all the different beaches and karst islands near Phi Phi. We saw "The Beach" (From the movie....you know Leonardo di Caprio) but unfortunately it was swarming with tons of people and cost five dollars to go lie on the beach. The actual snorkeling was beautiful and we saw quite a few fish (Dad even saw a shark :S) but there were so many tour boats around, it was like a traffic jam. They also took us to monkey beach where Matt was attacked by a really, really fat monkey with a really bad temper. Fortunately Matt ran fast enough to reach the water before the monkey reached him! We decided that two days was enough on Phi Phi and we headed to Koh Lanta. The second we got ... read more

I don't think I have ever been in a place where I have sweat in such large quantities by standing still in the shade. It is HOT! Good thing the ocean is at our doorstep- quite literally! We have to swim out a bit to get to deeper, cooler water but it's there...along with abundant, colourful marine life. The snorkeling one my first day was enough to convince me that diving would be a must here in Koh Tao. I enrolled in another course: Advanced Open Water. This means that by the end of the 3 days I became certified to dive upto 40m in depth and also made other "skills" dives. I chose deep dive, navigation dive, night dive, fish identification, and peak performance buoyancy. All of these dives were amazing. First up was my ... read more

It's Monday morning and we are off to Chiang Mai for a few days. Thailand has been pretty good so far. It's hotter than hell, but what can you do? The first night we stayed in an air conditioned room but the last 2 have been with just a fan. All I can say is, I'm spoiled. The fan helps but damn I could go for some A/C right now. Yesterday we saw some amazing temples but it was like 100 degrees and we decided to do it at 1pm, so we moved through it pretty quickly. Even though we didn't spend as much time as some folks would have we still got a lot of pictures and were completely amazed at how beautiful and ornate it all was. These wats (temples) that we saw have ... read more
