We're leaving Koh Phangan today, having spent an incredible fortnight here... I swear I have more memories here than everywhere else combined so far and its all because of all the people we've met, its been crazy!!! Way too much to write now but I'll try to get the best bits.. First day we arrived, spoke to some English guys who were leaving about where to stay, and they basically recommended heading to Haad Rin beach (home of the in infamous full moon party) so we took a taxi for 100 baht each, and started searching for somewhere to stay...turned into an absolute mission! Everywhere we either thought was a hole, or it couldnt take 3 peiople in 1 room, or it was charging us way too much for what we were getting... Eventually an English ... read more

The guys arrived... at about 12:30, we'd been waiting since about 10.00 sitting on the side of the koh san road with anticipation which disappeared pretty quickly as we waited. when they turned up i couldn't recognise them julians got a lovely beard on him by the way. turns out yannick told us the flight was a hour early but it doesn't matter as we're all have managed to get to bangkok so its ok. we spent 2 nights in bangkok 1st night showing the guys around, we sat on mats on the street drinking chang and catching up on each others news and stories. bed at about 7am before getting up at 1 to do a quick tour of bangkok because julains only here for 6 days. we booked tickets for a bus to ko ... read more

Okay, in a nutshell....... Our second night dive was okay. We survived. We did our visa run to Burma.....survived that too. Now were on Railay Beach, having so much fun, meeting loads of Canadians, staying at the best place so far for dirt cheap-literally, and trying to relax a little before heading to Cambodia. Oh yes, and the backpacks are starting to get heavy!!!! Uh oh Miss you all! Marie :)... read more

I never cease to amaze myself. Koh Tao took me for all I am worth. It seems that I left my passport there. You have to keep your passport at the guesthouse office while you stay there, and the office broad forgot to give it back to me when I checked out this morning. Now here I am in Bangkok: no camera, no passport, and no excuses for my stupidity. It shouldn't be a big deal. I'll phone the place tomorrow and they should be able to mail it to me I hope. It's 4:00 in the morning and I think it's just funny how my luck has been lately. Now I'm stuck in Bangkok until I get my passport. I don't want to be here...I want to head north now. But I will need my ... read more

Arriving back in Thailand was quite a culture shock after spending two weeks in Myanmar. However, we did take advantage of a few things that had missed; the first thing I had was a chocolate milk shake and a massive steak that hardly touched the sides! Steve headed straight for the Bangkok Post, needing his fix of world affairs. Although Chiang Mai is the lovely nothern sibling city to Bangkok, we haven't done anything touristy while we have been here. Most of the treks seem to to follow the same pattern of elephant rides and visiting hill-tribe villages (there are two main agents here so everyone goes on the same basic tour arranged by them). I suppose, with the risk of sounding arrogant, after experiencing the trek we had in Myanmar it will all seem a ... read more

Bangkok is considered the sex capitol of the world and we had heard crazy stories of sex shows, she-males, and of course the infamous Ping Pong shows. But, after a couple nights hanging out on Khaosan Rd. we hadnt come across anything like this. After a few beers, we decided to head back to the hostel. As we made our way to the end of Khaosan, a man came up to me and very quietly said "Ping pong show" I called Joe and Steve over to talk to the guy. He offered to take us to a show for 50 baht. I, of course, was hesitant, but the guys were all for it. The guy then led us to a dark alley, and I thought he was for sure going to mug us, but actually he ... read more

I originally intended to spend four days on Kao Tao Island but I ended up staying ten. I spent most of that time scuba diving, all round the island were isolated reefs, each unique and teeming with life, after my open water course I felt I had not seen enough of what the island had to offer. Two of the most memorable dives were the night and deep dives which were both part of the advanced diving course. On the night dive the boat arrived at dusk & we jumped straight in, being underwater at night is a vastly different experience from diving at day, you can only see what you point your torch at & the predators all come out. Swimming all around us were Giant Barracuda which swam incredibly fast, the best game we ... read more
