its just another day for you and me in paradise... after a short mini bus ride which was spent mainly thinking of the fantastic bakery that we were leaving behind in krabi and a couple of short ferry rides that made p&o look like the kings of the waves, we arrived at ko lanta. not having thought previously about the situation concerning our accomodation, when asked by the driver where we wanted to be dropped off, and you can imagine his delight when the reply from the stupid english couple at the back was 'dont know mate, where'd you suggest?' after being spoken about in hushed whispers by a german couple, to which lucy made it apparent that we knew they were talking about us, as only women can, we were handed some leaflets and chose ... read more

Hello all! Sorry I’ve been gone for so long. I was busy traveling here and where I’m staying there isn’t always electricity so it can be hard to find a good time to get online. I’m in Thailand. I was in Chang Mai last week so let’s start there. Chang Mai is far up in the north of Thailand. If you look at Thailand on a map there is a big part at the top and then it extends down to a long thin section between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman sea. Thai people describe the shape of Thailand as an axe. I want to say a special hello to my dad’s friend Vivik. Thanks for checking my blog! ... read more

Hey everyone Wow... long time eh? Well we got back to bangkok safe and sound, the flight was amazing. I love bangkok airways, they give you free food and internet while you're waitnig for the plane to board and then for an hour flight they give you a meal! We got breakfast and it was quite tasty! So we came back to khoa san road and settled in our DO guest house, seriously it is the best guesthouse we have stayed in this whole month! Well i mean charlies was pretty sweet but minus the beach it would have been not so great. Anyway we have been blowing the rest of our money since we got back and today we went to the weekend market and good god it is not the coolest place ever let ... read more

I did not dive. Unfortunately. Ko Tao, cool name for an island if I may say so myself. Arrived here on the back drop of a massive 5 days in Kho Phanang. Only went to bed at 7am the morning before I caught the ferry. I therefore spent the entire ferry ride passed out on the hard plastic seats, with Dean in close pursuit. Got off the ferry to be greeted by what can only be called a mob of people trying to get us to dive with their company or stay at their guesthouse. Told them to all bugger off and got a couple of scooters and cruised to the southern tip of the island. Stayed next to Freedom beach which was alright. Then had a bit of an adventure driving into the very very ... read more

Okay, all right. I know, we are actually back in the mall in Bangkok (because it has the best internet at the best cost and with the best chairs). BUT, after having been to the Similian Islands, (expected total isolation but actually seconds after setting foot on the pristine beach a Japanese lady came out of nowhere to take a picture of us), I took the liberty of placing this blog square on these magnificent isles in the middle of the Andaman Sea. So here we are or were until a few days ago, but it doesn't really matter to you either way. After a few weeks in Vietnam we had a 10 day period without any plans (similar to the entire 4 months we've had so far but that's another tale for another time) ... read more

DAY 1 The silence here had begun last night and so far I still have not said a single word. It has only been a day and I feel pretty tired. We got up at 4am and I have had 2 naps but somehow trying to learn to meditate and not to think about the past or the future is exhausting. Breakfast was horrible rice soup and lunch was ok. The food at the moment is my only concern; however I am confident that I can do the whole 10 days. I think the next 2 days will be the challenge but I am up for it. The dorm rooms are fine and I even slept well last night on the concrete bed and wooden pillow. The hardest thing is trying not to fall asleep whilst ... read more

Oh No, this is going to be the messiest time of my life, I can already tell. So I am in Bangkok and we have had a crazy few days of shopping, partying and seeing the ping pong show! When I got to the hotel on friday I met the others in my travelling group (pre-arranged through real gap) all doing the Thailand experience with me, we went to Koh San Road and got loaded in the central bar and the Irish bar. We all got into a tuk tuk, yes all nine of us, there was fourteen but some fell off and travelled across Bangkok to a crazy bar for a few more drinks, why not ah? Saturday was cool we went to see the Grand Plalace, amazingly intrecute with lots of detail. Then spent ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Krabi April 1st 2006

My fears regarding the overnight bus journey down to Krabi were unfounded as it turns out that the locals use luxury coaches with reclining seats, achres of legroom and snacks served periodically whereas the tourists use the ramskackle deathtraps that I thought we'd be using! This meant a pretty comfortable 12 hour journey and even a few hours sleep (would have been more had it not been for the awful film played at full volume for about 3 hours!) Krabi itself isn't up to much. It's a pretty quiet little place with a handful of tourists using it as a base to visit the local islands including Phuket and Ko Phi Phi (where The Beach was filmed) but was a pleasant change from the noise and traffic of Bangkok. After an afternoon of wondering round the ... read more

Hello How is life. Well, i have acclimated nicely to the third world. The first few days were a learning experience i guess. I had the misfortune of catching the disease Dysentary. A nice, warm bacterial disease from eating contaminated food. It looked ok! After things got real bad i went to the hospital but they didn't seem to be in the business of helping people. So, i diagnosed the problem myself using whatever i had and could think of, found the medication i needed and found a pharmacy. Now, i am great and am out of that city. Whoever says they "love" bangkok is lying. Or full of it. It's a city of millions (nearly 10) with half of em on the roads and streets all day. No pollution laws with regards to engines and ... read more
