We're leaving Koh Phangan today, having spent an incredible fortnight here... I swear I have more memories here than everywhere else combined so far and its all because of all the people we've met, its been crazy!!! Way too much to write now but I'll try to get the best bits..
First day we arrived, spoke to some English guys who were leaving about where to stay, and they basically recommended heading to Haad Rin beach (home of the in infamous full moon party) so we took a taxi for 100 baht each, and started searching for somewhere to stay...turned into an absolute mission! Everywhere we either thought was a hole, or it couldnt take 3 peiople in 1 room, or it was charging us way too much for what we were getting... Eventually an English couple came up to us and told us to follow them up to their bungalows in the hills because they were cheap and had room...so we trekked up this shitty hill carrying our packs, and got the room - pretty skank but nice enough people...but that night we searched a bit more for the next days accomodation and in the end found somewhere right
on the beach, for 250 baht each a night...a littlwe more than we were used to but the shower looked good, room nice..so we took it! We knew the room would be loud as it was in the middle of the main beach, next door to one of the two big clubs/bars! In the end this contributed to us going out so much - in the end a good thing!
Every day we had a routine, although the time of wake up and go to be seemed to just get later and later.. For exaple we got free breakfast til 11 with our room - made the first one only and we stayed there 12 nights!!!!!!! Once we woke up we would get food and a strawberry shake at the resort restaurant, then spend a few hours on thew beach whilst it was light, then we'd shower and go out for a meal.. Next would be either internet or pro evo against si (we were amazed to find cafes where you can play for 40 baht each per hour!) followed by either drinks at ours, on the beach, or at shai's and oran's bungalow.. The evening would then proceed
Si and I relaxing in the pool at Coral Bungalows
This was where Christine and Rosie stayed - also may notice that almost all pictures will be taken at night...didn't see much sunlight!! to Cactus club for fire games (fire games included limbo, fire shows with sticks, fireworks, and the ring of fire meaning jumping through a suspended ring of flames - need to be pretty drunk to get up the courage to do that, so many people landed on it!!) and of course for the balloon game which involved tying a balloon to you foot, trying to stamp on other peoples balloons whilst keeping yours safe - played four times, won it three times and came third the other time..all by being lame and not getting into the crazyness of what was in essence a drunken brawl! Was awesome though because the prize for winning was a free bucket, and for 2nd and 3rd it was a free beer! Will also won like 3 free beers - had some epic finals with him! Such fun! Alos managed to win a bottle of Sangsom whiskey by winning the game of musical chairs...you'd have all been so proud!...although in the last 3 some fat cockey Israeli guy landed on me and broke the chair...such an idiot!
We would then swop between Cactus and The Drop In Club, depending on which was busier...buying buckets at
regular intervals from a guy on a partuicular stall we liked (buckets are about 250 baht for a bottle of vodka, 3 red bull cans with ice, all poured into the bucket with lots of straws) - lots of bucket sharing because if you had a few to yourself you may not feel so well!!! Then depending on how good a night we were having, we would retire to Mr K's restaurant for some food and water (pizza brushetta) at 5/6/7 ish (sometimes watching sunrise first) followed by bed! Same smae every day!
Anyway, so that's what we did, but I reckon who we met made this place! So probably the two guys who we spent the most time with Oran and Shai, two 23 year old Israeli guys, really awesome, funny, loads of good nights out with them, hopefully seeing them in Phi Phi.. They weren't like all the other Israeli people we met, and they kind of showed us everything, played football with us etc...Shai also took a shining to some Welsh girl, learnt some Welsh, and won her over with his extremely gay dancing to the Bob Sinclair "happy song"...classic! As was our group dancing/jumping around
Sunset!
Amazed I got out of the pool long enough to take this photo! aimlessly to Mr Brightside by The Killers..loved it! Oh and also Oran's hatred of Liverpool - "I hate that team" as well as his silly visa run to Burma - ha! Also met Lawrence through football, a German guy of about 20, and we saw him every night out! He liked his buckets! Met an American girl from the balloon game, she was pretty cool, and then recently two Canadian guys calle Noam and Mike..also good guys, bit different though because they had an interest in the drug stuff going on which really wasnt our scene! Also we've spent quite a bit of time with an 18 year old English girl called Rosie and a 22 year old Canadian girl called Chrissie..they're awesome fun, had a Mr. K with them aftyer sunrise for the last 2 or 3 nights! Chrissie only eats Chicken Scnitzel...its crazy! Spent yesterday at their pool which was textbook! Hopefully meet up with Rosie when we get back as she lives in Salisbury - Romsey Rapids was mentioned! Then there was Craig, a Candian guy who came out with us one night, and then joined us for a Mr. K's..when someone came to that restaurant with
us it usually meant we got on really well! Also loads more guys from France, Sweden and Israel that we met playing football...one of them, the black French guy called Lionel, was quite a character....don't think Oran was too happy with him due to the attractive girl he was with that Oran wanted! We had to make him "calm down"! (so many inside jokes now and also stuff that I just randomly remember days after it happened!)
So having struggled to get up for our midday check out time, we just lay on the beach today, got a bit of extra sleep, met the Canadian guy Noam and his friend Mike..pretty funny guys! Just waiting for 8.30pm to come to get the trip to Koh Phi Phi...
Still missing you all loads, see you soon, love Chris xxx
(p.s. sorry no pictures yet, soon they'll be up for this, koh tao, and kanchanaburi!)
