Hey y'all. Arrived in Krabi from Ko Phi Phi on 28th March, we decided to avoid Krabi town itself and head straight for the nearest beach resort, Ao Nang. There were a few cheap guesthouses so it is a backpacker destination in one sense, on the other hand a lot of the tourists seemed to be scandinavians on package holidays. On our first night we went out to a few bars, one with a Rock Music theme called Encore Cafe it was nicely decked out with posters of John Lennon, Bob Marley, Led Zepplin and suchlike on the walls and ceilings. We got talking to this bloke from Birmingham who had been travelling on his own for the last 5 weeks. It turned out that he was a producer on Chris Evans' Radio show, so it ... read more

These pictures are from time spent on the Andaman coast. We went all the way south to the Malaysian border and spent a week or so between the islands of Koh Tarutao national park which includes the islands in the pictures but not Koh Lipe as it has become a place where sea gypsy's live and now fishermen. It is still part of the same group of islands and very quiet like the rest. We hired a longtail boat and spent a day swimming and snorkeling between 5 of the many islands. The snorkeling quickly provided some of the best marine life I have ever seen - incredible colours and shapes and so many different species of fish and coral. We went in search of waterfalls and found rocks to jump off. walked the length of ... read more

Both me and Trav shared a room. 1 single bed and one double bed. We were highly amused to find that the toilet was inside a shower cubicle, and that it had its own hose tap and drain..to wash things down. The wardrobe was also in its own ex-shower cubicle (with drain). I'll put some pics up when i can get them off my camera. So we had a pretty shitty nights sleep, due to the heat, and the air conditioners being as noisy as a fat bastard after baked beans and prune juice. Got up at 8am to have breakfast and get ready for our packaged klong (river) tour. The IEP group that me and trav are with consists of 13 other awsome people.

Hey everyone! Well... last night we decided to check out the nightlife here, we went to this strip of bars which included the viking bar, and the green mango club. Although the green mango doesn't get going until like 12am(ish) So we met a few nice australian boys, and danced a lot. We ended up walking home at like 3:00am(ish) and lucky for us mcshits was still open so we hit that up for a burger and fries... and went to bed when we got home. This morning we don't feel so hot but it's all good, tonight we are headed to the black moon party, should be interesting. Anyway this was a very short entry but i have some pictures from last night so i thought i would write a little something with the pictures. ... read more

Back by popular demand and little to write so here's a sneak preview of my apt and it's surroundings =) Every other day or so, just outside my apt there's a market. Yeah yeah blaba so heres the market... As you can see there's a lovely train track there also which sounds like a fleet of german crazed tanks on steriods. Quite annoying. Not only this but in the next picture you can see a coca-cola joint right? Well the smallish place to the left of that is a Kareoke joint. Thai people getting drunk and thinking their whitney houston at 11:59 is also slightly annoying... Moving indoors I feel the need to show off some bargain materials... read more

So much of this city is so big and in your face. Yesterday I went in search of a cell phone at one of Bangkok’s many shopping plazas, MBK. I figured I would just roam around the place until I encountered the cell phone shops. Almost a fatal mistake. This mall has 12 stories and is packed in with shops. Luckily, the entire floor of cell phone shops was only on the fourth floor and not on the 12th! By the third floor, I was wondering where these supposed discount cell phones were that a former classmate had told me about. Ascending the escalator to the fourth floor, there it was: the Mecca to cell phones. Shop after shop selling, used, new and Lord knows what else condition cell phone was crammed onto this floor. It seems that without fail, no journey I undertake in Asia can run smoothly. The mere hint of a thought of naïve smoothness in my mind and the touching of something wooden, will eventually result in some unexpected situation occurring. Take my boat trip from Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw for example. It started well, and finished great, travelling through spectacular (though hazy) scenery, little communities and kids everywhere swimming, fishing, or manically waving at us as if their lives depended on it. But of course, this false sense of security is fraught with danger as we pass through ridiculously shallow and narrow sections of rapids that would be hard to even float a rubber duck through. Our boat driver gave off the impression he knew what he was doing though, which helps, as long as ... read more

We thought the Royal benja was posh ?!!! The Asia Beach Pattaya was even better, Our own Beach with bar and restaurant, swimming pool with swim up bar. Once venturing into Pattaya we soon realised that this was just a 3rd generation of an entertainment town from the war days, loads of bars restaurants and places of ill repute, but now not just workin girls, but a whole few streets called boys town ??? We were happy to find out that the weekend we arrived was the once a year music festival and the main beach road was hosting several arenas of live music shows everynight. There is an area called walking street, which like Bangkok was full of market stalls and street vendors selling various foods and creatures but basically sold the same stock as ... read more

So, I eventually got round to doing something other than wandering aimlessly, eating and sweating. I had a touristy day of visiting the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Both were extremely impressive for different reasons: The Grand Palace is incredibly ornate and beautiful and the holiest site in Thailand, while Wat Pho is a nearby temple which houses the reclining Buddha (a 46m long, 15m high golden Buddha, looking quite chilled out). However the heat of that particular day was almost unbearable, and combined with the huge numbers of tourists wasn't the most relaxing of days but was enjoyable nonetheless. I also had a less touristy day of walking through the amulet market (purchasing an amulet to guard me from evil throughout my trip) and some of the local markets where I was the only non-Thai ... read more
