Once we cleared Immigration in Laem Chabang (two hours, could they be any slower)we took a car to our hotel in Bangkok. It was a two hour ride, so we got some snooze time. ML went right to work and I just hung out at the Sukhothai Hotel and it is beautiful here. The hotel room is bigger than our first apartment. It has a bath and a half, big living room, and a huge bedroom. The bathroom is larger than my second bedroom at home. I would be perfectly happy here for the next two days without ever leaving the hotel property. However, RL & ML did convince me to go out last for a two hour Thai massage. Now please know, I do not like massages, never have. There is just something weird about ... read more

We landed in Bankok and it was roasting. We jumped in the first taxi we saw (big mistake) ended up paying way to much.Stayed in the Ko san Palace thanks to Mark and Clodagh who had a room booked for us and everything.Wasnt as nice as you said it was shane!!!. Met some great people and had a good laugh in the bars but that was all we did.Its a smelly place. The smell goes from lovely garlic and chilli to crap and horrible smells every second step you take. We stayed there for three nights or so and headed to Kanchanaburi. This town is lovely and people seem really nice. There is nott much Farang ( foreing) people here which is nice.We went to tesco (yes thats right they have tesco here) and got completely stared at the ... read more

How is life? I am well. Doing great. Yes... Wow. My time of about a month is coming to an end here in Thailand. I am still amazed how time does fly by. Unreal. I have come full circle. I made my way in a large arc through the northlands of Thailand. It was good and i learned much. The hill tribe peoples, thais, and refugees from Burma were all fascinating. Very poor by western standards but such things matter not to most of the people. They are far more wealthy than most people i see walking the streets in my country. They are so warm and kind and will welcome you into their homes and give what they have. I in turn give what i have. It was good. I did hear of a province ... read more

we stayed an extra day in krabi town after phi phi island to wait for matt and claire who had been off taming cobras in khao sok national park and snorkeling and living for free on the similan islands. after 2 months deliberating whether or not to spend the money on a camera, dave decided it was time to stop messing around, and after getting a good deal from one of the camera shops in town, a shiny fuji was purchased, should keep him quiet for a few days! the ride to trang was less eventful than most bus journeys, only a couple of incidents were present that caused fear for our lives and we arrived safe and sound in the northern bus terminal and walked the 1km route to the minibus station to take us ... read more

We had a free weekend to do whatever we liked so we decided to go and see the Death Railway, this is the railway constructed by Siam's P.O.W instigated by the Japanese during world war 2 to transport goods from Siam (Thailand) to Burma! It's crazy to see the graves of so many poor people who died while constructing this monstosaty! They were starved, beaten and forced to tunnel through concrete in the blazing heat. We rode the railway and it was a good experience although I kind of felt like I was honouring the Japanese's work, the way I looked it was showing respect to those familys of the P.O.W as the money raised goes to them. Got home Sunday and saw a god dam scorpion, I was so amazed! We were all having such ... read more

**If you dont want to read about the travelling experience from Phuket to Koh Pangan then miss the first paragraph!!** After Phuket we decided to travel over to Koh Pangan for the Full Moon Party. The travelling however was a disaster! We expected a coach at 7.15 so at 7.45 when a 10 person mini bus turned up we didnt know what was going on. With the mini bus pretty much full we went on to pick up another 3 people so were very overloaded especially with everyones huge backpacks etc! We carried on as we were told we were being dropped at the coach depot. Half way there suddenly very hot water starts leaking on one of groups legs and smoke starts filling the mini bus; the driver then decided to stop for about 10 ... read more

Upon reaching Bangkok, I made a new goal for myself, to get invited into an Opium Den and play poker with some old Thai gangsters. Why would I want to do this? Why wouldn’t I want to do this is the better question. I’d be taking a stroll down the Ko San Road, minding my own business, possibly with my head phones in, quietly bumping along to some King’s of Leon or maybe even The Killers when I’d be approached by a Tuk Tuk driver that has spotted the glimmer in my eyes that is craving something a little more dangerous than what’s available to most travelers. He’d be a younger driver, maybe twenty seven or less, too young to have already succumbed to the monotonous life of ripping off tourists everyday while he silently dreams ... read more

I met up with my brother and his family today to spend the week in Thailand, but only one full day in Bangkok, so it was a jammed pack day. We visited the Grand Palace which is where Thai royalty used to live but now is a guesthouse for foreign dignataries and state dinners and Wat Phra Khaew, home of the emerald buddha. The buildings in the Wat compound were incredible. I have seen pictures but didn't realize just how intricate the decoration on the outside of the buildings was. The emerald buddha, after wondering around the elaborate compound, was a bit of a let down. It is actually made of jasper and is only about a foot high. Sorry no pictures, they weren't allowed inside the building. More impressive was at Wat Pho, the home ... read more
