Saturday, 12th October 2019 I decided to have an early lunch before proceeding with my sight-seeing plans. A few blocks from Toyoko Inn lies Jejuga Korean Restaurant, a cosy little spot serving wholesome abalone porridge. It seemed rather popular among the local people so I guess this must be a legit place. Very often, the flavourful Korean appetisers also took centre stage in a meal. Having them together with the mains certainly helped to enhance the whole culinary experience. Feeling wonderful from my satisfying lunch, I was soon on my way to the UN Memorial Cemetery in Korea. The Cemetery occupies a sprawling site in the heart of Busan and it honours the soldiers from the 16 UN countries who were killed during the Korean War between 1950 - 1953. I first made my way to ... read more

Friday, 11th October 2019 Silkair $398 launch fares between Singapore and Busan caught my attention while doing my travel research in early 2019. The offer was simply "too-good-to-be-missed". With a good-price motivation factor, I booked my tickets for another trip to South Korea after a hiatus of 9 years. My impression of Korea was rather neutral prior to this trip having spent some 6 days in Seoul in April 2010. Things had changed for the better in October 2019. While I still don't comprehend the Korean language, the avail of modern technology like Wifi, Naver Map as well as day tours from Klook meant that I was definitely much prepared for this trip compared to my maiden attempt. And with some luck, I might be able to witness the autumn foliage towards the end of my ... read more

Our next visit was to the city of Busan. Our train from Suncheon arrived punctually, at 8.50 pm, after a journey in the dark. Our hotel, L'Idea Hotel, was about 100 yards from the train station, chosen by Steve for its proximity (as well as all the usual other things), and we were checking in within ten minutes of getting off the train! And what a lovely room! It was enormous, had its own entrance vestibule(!!) with a shoehorn to help those of us now classed as 'elderly' with our footwear, a wetroom with a Japanese style loo, a jet bath, a king AND a queen sized bed (it was a 'family' room), fluffy duvets, piles of pillows and cushions, slippers and dressing gowns, a separate seating area WITH CHAIRS, a heating system we could figure ... read more

Dnes som to tu chcel ponat relaxacne. Nesmu chybat pozicovne doboveho oblecenia. Obchodiky su gycovo pomalovane, obcas neaka ta gycova soska a neaka ta malba na stene. Korejky si robia kopy selfie. Fakt mi pripadaju ako take barbie. Zmalovane, pekne oblecene, same pozy do mobilu no uplne nevsimave. Uplne sklamanie i ked fajn ... read more

Spanek konecne normalny. Ranajky rovnako ako vcera. Nasadam na zelene metro a smer konecna jangasan. Vonku opat mega teplo. Moje kroky vedu na Jangsan Mountain. Trial by mal zacinat v daecheon parku. Nuz zacina, len vsetko v korejcine a mapy su dost neasne. Idem podla navodu https://www.finnomads.com/2017/02/41-good-hiking-places-in-busan.html Nuz idem podla neho len po outdoor posilovnu. Potum uz intuitivne podla mapy.cz Na zaciatku parku kopa skolkarov. Neskor pri mini rieke kopa oddychujucich dochodcov. Som velmi prekvapeny kolko dochodcov v sikmookych krajinach turistikuje. Nuz teda po fajn ceste si pochodujem okolo chramu, rieky s mini vodopadom az k telocvicny v lese. Tu to strhavam vlavo, prekracujem po kamenoch riecku a uz som na prirodnom chodniku. Cul uz mam normalne turisticke topanky. V slapkach to tu neodporucam max len tento park. ... read more

V noci som nemohol vobec spat. Dnesny plan je mensia turistika po pobrezi. Ranajky kupene v blizkom 711. Zacina moj pobrezny trial cez igidae park. Velmi pekne vyhlady na blizke dva mini ostrovceky, utesy ... read more

Listok kupeny v pohode s kartou. Vlak prichadza len s 3 voznami, taky maly motoracik. Debil som nevedel otvorit dvere do vozna, stacilo ich len potlacit. Cesta do namchang ubehla velmi rychlo. Vystupili sme tu len 4 ludia. Uplne prti mestecko. Stanica v rekonstrukcii. Odtialto chodia dve linky 715 a 405 do Ganjeolgot. Mam stastie ... read more

And so Monday morning, I’m at the bustling Seoul Station to catch the 10:00 KTX express train to Busan, and in first class to boot. What you get extra in first class is wider comfier reclining seats, Wi-Fi access, free water, snacks and newspapers. I spent most of the journey posting on Instagram and attempting an initial draft of the first travel blog. To save you from asking, there were no zombies on this train to Busan, sadly… A little under three hours later I arrive at Busan Station – home of the slowest moving escalators in the world – on Korea’s south east coast. The nation’s second city is its main port and home to its biggest seaside resort. Both were evident on the taxi to my hotel in the Haeundae district, the main beach ... read more

Dear All Greetings! Greetings this time from South Korea, country number 78! I believe I last wrote just about to leave Japan, and was quite sad to do so. Indeed, it has been a bit of a culture shock arriving in South Korea, at once similar but also really very different to its neighbour across the Sea of Japan. I can say it took me a full day to get used to being here. I took the fast ferry from Fukuoka, and arriving in Busan, South Korea’s second largest city at 3.5 million people, the differences were immediately apparent. I think if I were to have come here directly from England, I would have noticed what other travellers I have spoken to have noticed – it is a clean, efficient and well-organised country. Coming from Japan, ... read more

I'm not sure how this sudden change has come over me, where I seem to have transformed in to the most compliant traveller going around! I'll never forget these past 10 days in Busan, a beautiful city at the base of South Korea. The welcome has been overwhelming, the people I've met kind and friendly, and the invites arriving at a dizzying rate. Basically I've become accustomed to just saying yes to anything. Tom, would you like to go to Cheongju for a day trip ... yes; Tom, would you like to go to a restaurant to try this traditional Korean dish tonight ... yes; Tom, shall we go and explore a temple today ... yes; Tom, do you want to come to the spa with us tonight ... yes; how about karaoke tonight ... yes; ... read more
