One of the things I wanted to see in South Korea was the Cherry Blossom trees. They are not native to United States and I don't know if they are anywhere there. (Perhaps in Japanese Gardens). They are the national flower of Japan, not Korea, but they are everywhere in Korea. Right now spring has blossomed thousands of Cherry Blossom trees here and I am so happy to be able to see them. I cannot express, in words, how beautiful they are what a sweet aroma they give off. It is amazing to walk down the street and see rows of these trees. There are large mountain/hillsides around my town and in between the green are the delicate pink trees. Absolutely stunning! Lucky me.... read more

Penis is popular in Korea! Yes, you read this correctly. I haven't been 'schooled' on this yet BUTT (see what I did there?) I am assuming it has to do with fertility and virility. Anyway, I saw this statue outside of a restaurant/eatery on my way to school and on the 3rd day I have into my inner child. I took a photo. I did it quick so that I wouldn't offend anyone. Of course, I giggled as I snapped the photo. If you think this is interesting then check out photos of Haesindang Park (해신당 공원), also called Penis Park, is a park located on the east coast of South Korea, in a small town called Sinnam. Guess where I will be visiting as soon as I can?! Hahah! Can you imagine how proud my ... read more

1st week in Busan, South Korea has been exciting and stressful. I'm here to teach English in Okchun Elementary School which is located in Saha-Gu are of Busan. Busan is in the South East of South Korea, about 30 miles west of Japan. It is warmer in Busan than Seoul and is the second largest city, behind Seoul. Busan is known for the beaches and large ports. I came here because I wanted to learn, explore, and give back to the people of the world. I hope to learn a new language, teach a language that I love, and meet new friends. My goal is to grow and become a better person while teaching English to children here. I also hope to travel and see amazing places while out here. What have I learned in my ... read more

Beautiful Gwangalli Beach, Busan From mountain top temples to seaside cliffs and beautiful sandy beaches, Busan is a gem. I cannot describe the feeling I got when I first saw Gwangalli bridge in the distance. The neon lights reflected off the calm sea water while the double-decker suspension bridge reached across the bay. Cars were zooming over it but all I could hear was the gentle ebb and flow of the sea water on the shore. The calming atmosphere of the beach is contrasted by the hustle and bustle of the bars and night life scene on the street opposite to the sandy shore. Fireworks were being sold and lit in the distance and loud dance music was blaring from the club 8 stories up in the nearest high-rise. This was the scene every night at ... read more

I have officially survived my first two full days in Yangsan, South Korea. And that's including the (now) two times I have left my apartment without my co-teacher ;) In the last 48 hours, I have visited the immigration office; gotten my health check done; opened a bank account; visited my school and met a few of my students; met my co-teacher, principal, vice principal, and a few other teachers; found and completed unpacked in my new apartment; and found the nearest convenience store (7/11) and EMart... which is like Wal-Mart, but looks/feels a little more like a Home Depot... except it's green. Yesterday, while in Busan, my co-teacher treated me to lunch. I tried kimchi for the first time and have come to the conclusion that, at least the traditional style, is far too spicy ... read more

So I was going to write an entry as soon as I landed in Beijing but was unable to connect toWifi... Boo! Instead, I went old school and wrote my first impressions down. With pen and paper. And now I'm typing what I wrote for all of you! To start, I learned a lesson on the flight fom Newark to Beijing. 14 hours on a plane - especially in a middle seat - is BRUTAL! And, for those of you that know me well, sitting still for long periods of time is not exactly something I do very well. At all. I can only sit and watch movies in an uncomfortable upright positon for long. I did get to watch some pretty good ones though... Captan Phillips; 300 (the new one); and Noah. Middle seat is ... read more

Busan (Pusan) South Korea, Fish Market and Buddhist Temple Off the ship and a loooong, windy, cold walk to our bus and a ½ day tour. We quickly find our way to the Ja-Gai-Ch’i or Aunt’s Fish Market. It is named after all the women who started and ran the market during the Korean War in the early 1950’s. It still thrives today and is, by far, the cleanest fish market of all those we have seen and is the largest in South Korea. There were three sections to the market… 1. raw fish used to make sushi/sashimi 2. live fish where locals buy fresh fish to take home, or to have cooked upstairs in the restaurants, and 3. the dry fish market where freshly caught fish are hanging out to dry. Our local guide said ... read more
