Only a day and a half in Singapore, boy did we mis-plan that one! Yes, yes we know its a built up City and so should be hectic, chaotic and too tall and yes it kind of is..... but its so well designed. They call it "fine city" so you can't spit, hold hands, litter or eat/drink on the tube, but for all that theres a level of respect (yes based on fines) and for many people reading this living in our lovely country of Britain (getting the bus with all those chav's that blast their crap music out wtihout a care for other passengers) then we can't complain as a tourist. The City has a great skyline that is tastefully lit by night and theres a river that meanders through the City that stops you ... read more

I headed back the zoo after being away from it for less than 12 hours. Perhaps not the best planning…. I headed right over to the jaguar exhibit to see if the one I knew was on exhibit. He wasn’t, and so I hovered around for a while looking rather sketchy, until I managed to get the attention of a keeper. He was incredibly nice, and let me come back into the holding area to visit the cat! I hung around for a quite a while. He didn’t pay me any attention at all, but it was such a different setting I could hardly expect him to know me. I then spent hours and hours wandering around the zoo, seeing, I believe, absolutely everything. The zoo takes the open exhibit plan to an extreme, it was ... read more

Today started yesterday with an early start, and uneventful flight from Barcelona, passing over geography that barely registers in my mental atlas - Georgia and Turmenistan, the Caspian and Black seas etc. Arrived a bit tired as the sleeping pill that we took didn't work until we were 3 or 4 hours out. Since we have been here we have been using the amazingly efficient MRT system - underground and buses. We have spent our time with animals - firstly at Joorong bird park which has some amazing birds - all in natural settings. Masses of pink flamingoes and Pelicans, numbers of parrots and lorakeets. Cranes and storks and toucans and cassowaries. Birds of all sizes and shapes and colours, and birds of prey. Then on to the Night Safari which included a number of nocturnal ... read more

I made my way to the Night Safari by catching a train to Ang Mo Kio. Once I killed some more time wandering around the shops at Ang Mio Kio, I took a bus to the Night Safari (i.e. next door to Singapore Zoo). The Night Safari was fantastic! It was great wandering around the paths in the dark watching all the night creatures come to life. The highlights were watching the otters play and seeing the leopard stalking past the large glass screen. I also watched "The Creatures of the Night" Show. It was very popular. I had to stand in a queue for ages and it was very uncomfortable because it was very crowded and humid. The highlights of the show were listening and watching the wolves howling and seeing some otters placing empty ... read more

Today I took advantage of Singapore's very efficient public transport system (MRT and buses). The longest time that I had to wait for a train was 6 min (on a Sat). The ticket system was so easy to use, as long as you know which station that you have to reach, you're fine. There is no such thing as zones in this country. I spent most of the day at Jurong Bird Park. It is the biggest aviary in the world, with it's own monorail system. There were birds from all corners of the globe. At one point I feed the lorikeets, with some liquid feed. One of the lorikeets had a very annoying habit of flicking it's head while it was taking a sip and splattered my arm with bird feed. It was quite an ... read more

We arrived in Singapore after a 7 and a half hour flight, we boarded thinking it was 6 hours as we were wrongly advised there was only a 1 hour time difference between there and Brisbane, grr..... Anyway it wasn't a bad flight, there were lots of films to watch, they fed us twice and they kept bringing round hot towels! We landed at 8:15 and it was still 28 degrees outside. Singapore Airport was the best and most organised airport that we have experience so far, it took 2 mins to get through Immigration and Customs and they even gave us mints! This was a nice change from the shambolic queues getting out of Brisbane airport! We had a bit of a tedious train journey to our hostel however, had to change twice (its quite ... read more

Hallo!

According to the majority of Taxi Drivers in Singapore, the number one thing to do in the day as a tourist is head to the Zoo. As well, the number one thing to do as an evening program (if you happen to be 18 or over) is head to the big club, 'Ministry Of Sound'. We decided to take full advantage of our clean-slated schedules and do them both in one day. First off, the Zoo. The Elephant show was at 11:30am, this meant we had to be out of the house at 10:00am. We took the 165 all the Ang Mo Kio Rd. where we transfered onto the 138 straight to the zoo. The bus trip was fun because we got to see so much of Singapore, seriously; covered about half of it, and it ... read more

We were away for 5 days with this trip and its quite exhausting as its basically 4 flights and each are 7 hours! We go Dubai- Singapore- Melbourne- Singapore- Dubai!!!! When in Melbourne we only get minimum rest which is about 13hrs which sounds alot but means you cant really do anything in Melbourne but sleep- all seems a bit of a waste really! And even those 13hrs aren't enough can you believe!!! I was flying with a few friends which was nice so in Singapore we ventured off o the Night Safari (those of you that have followed my travels from the start will remember Me and Vix going there on our round the world trip) I can safely say that I was again in the same delirious state as we were then Vix!!!!! Well we arrived and then had to find the Singapore stopover holidays desk. The girls are starting to get good at airports. Well they love the moving escalators and Changi airport has loads of them. We found the desk and out came all of the electronic toys. We bought another DS lite in Bali. It is supposed to be for Chloe and me to use, read as Chloe to use!!! I have become an electronic games widower. Ellie was very excited to try the brain age game with two people. That didn’t last long as she is not very good at the games and kept losing. If you are ever flying through Singapore with Singapore airlines or Silk air they do a deal called the stopover holiday. We stayed in a huge four star hotel for ... read more
