The door of the plane opened and we were hit by a 30 degree heat saturated with humidity, it was 8.50am. The Singapore airport is renowned to be one of the best in the world, so we had high expectations as we were whisked over the travelaters, listening to the plinky plunky music. The airport is indeed a nice place. I enjoyed my first hot coffee since wearing out Steve's coffee grinder during our lovely stay with them. The second coffee, (we stopped off on the way to the other terminal, okay?!) burnt my throat out. Such is life. Singapore, being a small, peninsula, city-country, has an efficient public transport network. The train metro network is called the MRT. This is complemented by an equally efficient bus network. We took the MRT to our digs in ... read more

The zoo was amazing!! We even managed to get a bus there from right outside the hostel and had it all to ourselves. We saw loads of animals like White Tigers, Giraffes and Monkeys. Unlike most other zoos, the majority of the animals were in open enclosures (apart from the snakes and bugs) so we barely saw a caged animal all day. Also, because Singapore Zoo is basically in a rainforest, the Zoo was beautiful and feels really natural. They had this one part where animals like Lemurs and tree foxes were completely free roaming so you could just walk up to them. You’ll see a photo of Terry with a lemur below. They had shows on too for free so we went to one which was about cutting down the rainforest. Sounds cheesy (it was) ... read more

Singapore Zoo The Singapore Zoo complex is split into two sections. They are the Day Zoo, and the Night Safari. I recommend that you see them both, as they each have their own unique features. We went first from Singapore Harbour, in the late afternoon, to the Night Zoo. The Night Zoo opens around dusk, and runs until 11PM. Tickets can be purchased to include dinner as well, and if you combine it with a pass to the day zoo, you can get discounts. I recommend going to the night zoo on non holiday times, as we talked to someone who went there during the recent school holidays, and had to wait ages for the attractions. We went there at 6pm, and had minor waits. We saw a creatures of the night display, followed by a ... read more

THE ZOO Well we ate with the monkeys and we made it through the heat and sweat to ride a Elephant and kiss a sea Lion. Oh and to win a Houla hop contest (go Siobhan). Not to mention hold snakes. Loved the Sinagapore Zoo. So much to see and do too much in away Really could not believe that my children were on top of an Elephant, in the back of your mind you think what if something happens and that big thing goes mad. We got to see them being bathed 1m away and got to touch them while they did it. DAVID at the hotel we have executive club privillages which means you can use the club lounge which has free drinks between 6 and 8pm (considering at the bar a beer is ... read more

So it's my second day and it has been a busy one. I went to the Zoo for the day. It was amazing, they pretty much have every animal you could think off, they even said they have a polar bear but i couldn't find him. It was like a jungle so some of the animals are freaking impossible to see. They have monkeys and birds just haging around in the trees...not caged in...and they just stick to their designated tree as well, which i found amazing. I have to admit one of my favourite parts was riding an elephant - didn't ever think I would do somethign like that...I did drop my camera while on the elephant but thank god it didn't break, I think if it had that would have been my least favourite ... read more

Arrived in Singapore airport around 3pm - it was soo clean and shiney. I booked on a shuttle bus and this dropped me at the hostel. Upon check in I met my tour guide - Tony he seemed really nice and told me a few places to go in Singapore. When I went up to my room I met Nic, Debs and Matt. it turned out that Nic was also on my tour, so it was really good to meet someone else doing the tour. We sat around and chatted for a while and then decided to go to the night safari. We left around 7 to get a taxi for the zoo. This was quite a challenge and resulted in me and Nic running across the green to flag one down - this attempt failed. ... read more

Our third day in Singapore was spent at Singapore Zoo and Night Safari. After a late start to the day we arrived at the zoo about two oclock and proceeded to view the animals. As zoo's go it was ok, the animals selection was average but the location was stunning. The lack of cages made for good photo oppotunities and clear views of the animals. the humid weather made for sticky bodies so we were glad of the wet play area in the kids zone, where we had the chance to cool off and have some refreshment. We left the zoo at six and went straight onto the Night Safari. Before doing the walking tour we stopped off at the restaurant for dinner where we ate and watered. We walked off dinner while viewing the animals ... read more

I got to Singapore a couple of days ago and have done some exploring as well as relaxing. The city feels very safe, there is great food EVERYWHERE, the public transit is the best I have seen and it is very clean. I love their MRT (subway) everything is touch screen, it is super clean and so easy to navigate. I dont think I have had to wait more than five minutes for a train. love it. I am staying at the Betel Box hostel which has been just fine. I went into this trip saying that I didnt think I could do a dorm room but it is actually pretty good. I am in an all girls room and everyone has been very nice, it is fun to have dinner partners, etc. The management of ... read more

'The best laid plans of mice and men gang aft aglae' as the bard said. And things certainly went a bit aglae. Qantas decided to deliver our baggage to Kuala Lumpur before reuniting it with its owners. So we're stuck in Singapore for a night with lots of winter woolies - and it's delightfully warm outside. (The hotel pool looks exceedingly inviting surrounded by distant skyscrapers and youngsters flying luminous kites.) They'd have to chill the water a lot to make it uninviting! Apart from the baggage, cattle class to Singapore was OK for me, but Mary didn't enjoy the experience. The girl next to her was suffering from a cold and the woman in front put her seat in the reclining position, making Mary feel claustrophobic. She'll have to dump me and marry a millionaire ... read more

BYE BANGKOK At 6am on Fri 4 Dec we made our way back to Bangkok airport for the final time and said goodbye to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos and headed South on a two hour flight this time bound for SINGAPORE! We touched down at 1pm local time - the landing came as a huge shock to us , we still thought we were high in the clouds, well that was what looking out the window had made us presume! Lightening, driving rain, thick, thick clouds, so thick we could not even see the wing of the plane, which we were sat over!!! Great, had not checked when the monsoon season was in Singapore! We made straight for the mega efficient MRT system (their equivalent to the underground). We had not been able to ... read more
