Singapore was the most clean and safe place I had ever experienced. The main reasoning behind this was the extreme punishments for breaking the law. The size of the Isle of White with over 5 million inhabitants, there was a large amount of things to do in such a small area. Accommodation Guy had family living here, his aunt Viv, uncle Paul and cousins Thomas (aka 00Legend), Ben (aka Ben Nevis) and Sophie (aka Princess Sophie). They were such a lovely family and made us immediately feel at home, it was nice to get out of the backpacker life for a few days with settees, tv and home cooked food... This was the life! They showed us around Singapore. British club We arrived early on Saturday and the Carter family took us to their weekend club. ... read more

Day Five - IT’S CHRISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTMAS With the inflatable tree in place and presents underneath it is a fine start to the day. After breakfast we head off to the Zoo and the sun comes out to add baking heat to the oppressive humidity. The Zoo is a marvellous place, lauded as the best Zoo in the world and rightly so. The enclosures are open where possible with ditches and moats used to keep in the animals. The orang-utans can swing from their large area out over the walkways - they hang above you trying to cadge an ice cream. The animals are fed live feed where possible to keep them more active, eg the polar bears must dive in to catch fish released into their pool. We started with a few of the monkeys and then ... read more

Lately, it seems that my travel blogging can't keep up with all the fantastic photo opportunities I've had. With the holiday season, traveling to more "first-time" locales and my first vacation in a while, I'm trying my best to catch up with my blogs. At times, I want nothing more than to just post photos, but I feel so accomplished every time I write a story to go along with it. I'll get on with it... Finally departing Subic Bay, as I was ready to get out of Dodge, we made our way towards Singapore. Now, typically I cannot discuss ship's movement and scheduling and the like, my favorite phrase on this topic is "Loose lips sink ships". It's true though, anyone who remembers the USS COLE (not that it had anything to do with ... read more

If Carlsberg did Zoo’s, it would do Singapore Zoo. The last zoo we went to was in Santiago and we left there a bit depressed after seeing only one animal per cage. They looked totally unhappy and it is not a zoo I would advise anyone to visit. Singapore Zoo on the other hand is the complete opposite. Orang-utans roam freely around the zoo and you can get so close to the animals sometimes you wonder are you too close. The big difference with this zoo and every other one we have been to is that the animals move around in their enclosure. Baboon’s ran from a distance at top speed and hurtled themselves head over heels into the river surrounding their home. We accidentally walked in on two turtles having a moment but that didn’t ... read more

My last day in Singapore on my own!! First of all I decided I desperately needed a new camera as the one I had isn't taking pictures very well so I went to the shopping place - Orchard Road and thought I would be trawling the many many camera shops for a good deal!! I really couldn't be bothered, it was my last day and wanted to see as much as possible and not spend it shopping. I know, I know that doesn't sound like me does it? I think I am turning into a real explorer now!!! I got a new camera for about 115 quid and it is a good one and fromhe first shop too - I did use my skills and bargain him down too so I walked away a happy Jane. ... read more

We are now in Singapore where we are relaxing (read indulging) and celebrating my birthday. Simply, we are both quite impressed. If we would have started the trip here, I don’t think we would have appreciated it as much because Singapore is a lot like NYC—only cleaner, calmer, and more organized. (Okay, maybe not that similar....) But after a month of stern self-talk before entering any bathrooms, contraband monkey juice, and constant curries, this place is a playground. We gave up and admitted we could not begin to experience a fraction of this city/country/gastronomical Babylon. As anyone will tell you, Singaporeans wine, dine, and shop—and do it all quite well. So, that is what you do here. Not bad. And it’s all done in such clean, organized beauty—almost to the point of it being creepy. I ... read more

To say that Singapore Zoo is a bit out of the city is both fact and fiction... For starters, it takes about 70mins to get there involving 2 trains and a bus, but although it gets a little more forrested, you never actually leave the city. I have a feeling that the whole island is just one big city. So after hearing that it is classed as one of the best in the world, we deciding to head there for the afternoon. Now think of the local zoo.... now add a rainforest.... now take away nearly all the glass... and add some of the best laksa I've ever had and that's Singapore Zoo!!! From the moment you enter, it is an experience not to be forgotten. We managed to see Probiscus Monkeys, Orang-a-tans, and the African ... read more

Ko sva se zjutraj odpravili novih dogodivscinam naproti, naju je presenetilo vreme: sploh ni bilo soparno. Kaj takega? Highlights triurnega obiska so bili prosto gibajoci se orangutani, ... read more

Wednesday 11th February 09: Caught the early bus to Singapore this morning. Arrived in Little India and looked around for a hostel that wasn't way too out of our price range. We went off for a little explore around Singapore which seems to be one endless shopping centre, joined by over-passes over the roads. We found our way to Clarke Quay where there was BOGOF beers at a microbrewery. The bill still came to 16 singapore dollars - that's 8 quid for effectively one beer - criminal! It was in nice surroundings but I think I'll leave Clarke Quay to the bankers. Today we went to Singapore Zoo! The zoo was lovely, it didn't have any cages or meshes in front of the animals, only moats, so you could see the animals much more clearly and ... read more
