As soon as I entered the hotel premises, I was greeted by the spacious lobby and the view of the beautiful swimming pool. Even though I wasn't on a vacation, the peaceful oasis surrounded by plenty of greenery made me feel thoroughly relaxed. On both mornings, the staffs greeted me with plenty of smiles. It really helped to start my day well even though I was cooped up in the Orchid Room for most of the time. So after sleeping 14 or so hours, I decided to take a trial run at finding my internship site. One of the great things about Singapore is its public transportation system. Fortunately, my host mom and her son gave me a MRT route map and told me which stops to take and which lines to go on…because it is really confusing for a first-timer!! I did not take any pics this time around because I didn't want to make it too obvious that I wasn't from around here, but I'll sneak some with my iPhone next time! So I walked from the house to the MRT station and took the Circle Line to Harbour Front, where I switched to the Northeast Line to Dhoby Ghaut, and then took the Jorong East Line to Orchard Road. You won't believe it for a stay-at-home mum with a live-in helper, but I've had alot on my plate these past few months hence my lapse in writing my blog. This will be short and sweet. I finally booked my flight to Kuching, Malaysia and then I treated myself to a well earned Bulmers cider (given the fact I hadn't drank for 6 days). A Bulmers was $10 SGD (£5) and I chilled on the rooftop chatting to a group of Scottish girls who had arrived the previous day. Later that evening a bunch of us played a horse racing card game - drinking of course. I again did not partake in the drinking as I had already spoilt myself with 2 bottles of Bulmers. The bus driver took me to the bus station on the road where my hostel was. However, I chose to walk down the road in the opposite way (obviously not knowing this) and when I finally realised someone pointed out the hostel for me - right on the corner of road opposite the bus station. The Green Kiwi Backpackers. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and gave me a map of the city with the MRT lines. In the main communal/eating area there were laminated posters showing you all the possible things you could do in Singapore. However, for the time being I went to my dorm and had an hour or so sleep.
