Wednesday 21 May, 2014. Singapore.
We left the UK on Saturday night after spending a night with my Aunt Sheila and then a night with my cousin John and his partner.
My Aunt Lives in Settle, Northern England and along with her daughter Julie, my cousin, they showed us the town. Not a late night, but very enjoyable.
The second night we spent with my cousin John and his partner Clare along with my uncle Chris and his wife, another Sheila, who had just visited us in Australia. This was a payback night for all those I had shown them in Australia. After the fabulous dinner Clare cooked and a st load of red wine the whiskey came out, this may explain why I felt so crap the next day, more of that later. We had breakfast the next day with everyone and then started our journey to London airport.
After leaving John and Clare’s home we drove 6 hours to London Airport and took a flight to Singapore at 10.30pm. After a fourteen hour flight the trip took a little bit a back step. I got off the plane in Singapore feeling ok, but tied. I
had only been off the plane for a few minutes when I felt faint and could no longer stand. It was soon apparent to me a Cath that it much more than a dizzy spell. With the help of airport staff I made it to the medical centre, where I became violently ill. After receiving medical treatment, including an injection to stop me from vomiting I was taken via wheelchair through passport control and then to a waiting taxi. I don’t remember much about the trip, but I know it scared the shit out both me and Cath. If it wasn't for Cath I wouldn't have been able to make it to the hotel. Thank god we were staying here the night as I would not have been able to get on another flight. After what seemed an eternity we made it to the hotel and again I was assisted via wheelchair to the room where I could do nothing but lay down. The doctor thinks it was just a severe case of Vestibular Neuritis (Vertigo), anyway scared the hell out of me and Cath. I woke this morning felling much better. Today we took it easy and did very
little, mostly due to last night, but we were also jet lagged. After lunch we headed down town for a look see. Very clean place Singapore, but hot. We walked around the shops for about an hour and then back to the hotel for happy hour. I felt much better after that.
The next day was very much spent the same, jet lagged we didn't get out of bed until 9.30am and then after breakfast retired back to the room for another sleep. In the afternoon we took a taxi to Marina Bay and went to the observation deck in the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, a recently built hotel with three towers and the top is joined with what appears to be a boat. The photos explain it better than I can. It was then back to the hotel for happy hour and dinner in the Cantonese restaurant within the hotel. Then stuffed and very merry we struggled to bed for another restless jet lagged sleep.
Wednesday 21st
We have now checked out of the hotel and a little anxious about the flight. Cath states she is going to heavily medicate me before getting on the flight.
Only time will tell. We will be home in the morning and we are both looking forward to our own bed. Cath has told me for scaring the shit out of her this will be my last long haul flight. I can only agree. So everyone in the UK, you will have to come and see us.
We have enjoyed our stay in Singapore, but it seems a little wasted, what with being sick and the jet lag. Anyway we hope to get back here one day, depending on my flight restrictions, ha, ha. Another holiday completed and the last for a while. We've enjoyed yourselves, maybe a little too much, but will cherish the memories of Ireland and the UK. Our time with Sean, Chantel and the kids were worth all the hassles at the end, and I blame him for the over indulgence. Payback will be when we all get home and after a few months recovery.
P.S.
I didn't want to worry family so I didn't publish this until we got home, just in case. The flight was good and I didn't suffer any further symptoms. Can only put it down to having too
much of a good time. Now home safe and well. Talk to you all soon.
