Arrived in Singapore after a very long flight from Rome. We got no sleep in the 12 hour flight, but watched plenty of movies. Picked up from the airport at 6am by Tim and Shona and brought back to Woodlands House, correction Woodlands Mansion! What a beautiful home build back in the 30's with high ceilings and large rooms in 30 degree heat and high humidity! Jen promptly fell asleep on the bed and the rest of the cast got on with the show. Sleeping beauty! We then went to the Aussie club to watch the Wallabies play Ireland, heh, heh, heh!!! Oh the joy! Must not gloat. Cannot help myself! We then went out to dinner at a local Thai restuarant to rejoice heh!, heh! Sunday, slept in late and awoke to a cooked breakfast. ... read more

Arriving into Singapore we were headed to Betelbox hostel, a place we would come to feel right at home in. First impressions of Singapore weren't great, until we headed into the city centre (mainly river area) when we realised we were staying in the dodgy area. However with Singapore being the cleanest and safest city we've been to the dodgy area wasn't bad at all! Just a walk away we had East Coast Beach, a nice park backing onto the harbour with views of the shipping lanes which proved to be a nice break from the city life. Our first real taste of Singapore was the river cruise, starting at Clarke Quay and travelling the length of the river, we saw all the main sights of Singapore... from the Merlion (Singapore's mascot of half lion/half fish), ... read more

Never actually written a blog or anything on a public forum before. Then again this move is a first on a lot of different levels. Figure that rather then sending out emails on a sporadic basis might be easier to record things as they happen. At least that way I can keep track of things without spamming mailboxes. I'm thinking initially this is going to stream chronologically. I'll probably post pictures all over the place and maybe save the best ones for here. Will try to keep this as PC and PG-13 as I can....... read more

After living out of a backpack or suitcase for 4 weeks, I was finally able to unpack when I moved into my apartment Aug 1. It's a nice little place & feels homey. I dropped a bunch of money at Ikea last weekend - if that doesn't scream 'settling in', I don't know what does. The place is called 'Institution Ville' - I was a bit nervous when I heard that's where I was moving, but I do really like it. It's a 500 sq ft 1 bedroom & feels quite big. I've attached some pictures. The location is pretty good - walking distance to plenty of things, including a grocery store that sells Oregon blueberries (in addition to other delicious local produce). I'm a bus-to-train ride away from the office & the commute takes a ... read more

... read more

Singapore - safe, clean city. Tidy, polite, respectful people. No eating or drinking in public. People are not overweight and dress well. No crime is tolerated in tourist areas. Changi Airport is a dream to go through with its wide open spaces, great organisation, excellent signage and connection to the tube. Food is brilliant and safe. If you like shopping it is paradise and the Australian dollar is very strong so enjoy a 25% discount with Australian currency. Now is the time to visit from Australia and it's only a 5 hour flight. The tube is safe very easy to use and people are very helpful ( in stark contrast to the Moscow underground). We went to the new Marina development and attached are some pictures of the infinity pool and precinct. The prosperity is striking ... read more

This was my first trip ever to abroad. Although it is just a neighboring country ; i was really excited about it. The reason why I'm on this trip is actually to attend a gig that my boyfriend (Jimmy) and his band will be playing in. After I got my first ever passport, I've start counting the days ever since...until I realized that I have an exam paper on the day of the gig. Since I was a very stubborn girl I decided to just stick with the plan. Jimmy and his band members will depart by train the day before and I on the other hand will go to Singapore alone by bus without my parents knowing it!!! 21st November 2009 My mind was not paying attention on the paper in front of me. I ... read more
