Geo: 1.48, 103.75The day started early and this is probably so far the most tiring day! We went to the Singapore flyer to check in at 8am for our tour to Legoland. It was quite easy, just telling them the name and then they checked you in. A week ago, the bus was empty but as I sat in the bus, more and more people came in and it was almost full by the time we left! Half the bus was adults and the other half, kids!! I guess Legoland is more for kids than adults. To get to Johor Bahru, we had to go through 2 sets of customs, one to exit Singapore and the other to enter Malaysia. There is a bridge to cross Singapore and Malaysia, which I'll call the neutral zone between the ... read more

Saturday, 17th August 2013 I was eleven when I first visited Kukup as a kid way back in December 1990. This was also my first overseas trip proper even though I certainly did not catch the travel bug until much later in my twenties. My only recollection of the maiden trip was our delicious seafood lunch on top of a kelong, one of the many floating houses by the sea. Kukup, a peaceful fishing village located along the western end of Johor lies about 100km from Singapore. It was certainly great to be back at the same spot after a good 23 years! Nine of us assembled on the morning of 17th August 2013 at Choa Chu Kang Station for our weekend getaway. I was looking forward to it given the novelty of staying in a ... read more

Saturday, 15th June 2013 Staying over the weekend in the neighbouring city of Johor Bahru had become a sort of a ritual for us over the past year after being put off by the high prices we had to pay back home. We decided again on the Mutiara Hotel given its proximity to our amenities in Holiday Plaza. While the property had aged over the years, it was still an attractive staycation option within the city. The bedrooms were really spacious and had enough breathing room even for three adults. On our way to the hotel, our chatty Indian taxi driver was quick to point out some of the interesting facts of this place. "31 years already. The hotel started business as Holiday Inn in 1982 before rebranding itself as the Crowne Plaza and subsequently, The ... read more

Saturday, 20th April to Sunday, 21st April 2013 Everyone seemed so friendly and yes, without the stresses of daily lives written all over their faces.... We had been discussing to pay a visit to JW's hometown for quite sometime now. After much thoughts, this was decided on the weekend of 20th April before one of us finally call it quits. JW was born in the township of Kluang, about 2 hours' drive from Singapore. Even though this was going to be my second visit to Kluang, I was actually looking forward to it especially through the eyes of a knowledgeable local. By 4.45am on Saturday morning, I was already up and about in order to be on time for our 7.30am bus departing from Boon Lay Shopping Centre. It was closed to 9.30am when the three ... read more

Saturday, 2nd March 2013 Determined to start our day early, I linked up with SJ at 10am in the morning before heading into Johor Bahru. My visits to this southern gateway of Malaysia had became relatively frequent over the past year. During the lull periods when I'm not travelling, we would slot in some visits over the weekend for our usual haunts. For this weekend, we decided to head to Jalan Tan Hiok Nee where the Chinese Heritage Museum was situated. Located within the historical core, it took about fifteen minutes of footwork from where we started at JB City Square. The museum is housed within a restored four-storey shophouse. Admission to this place was recently revised to RM5. But the interesting exhibits that traced the origins of Chinese culture in Johor Bahru made our ringgits ... read more

Day 1 I was on night shift and finished at 7 making me a crazy runner. Back home i tried finishing off my packing, before hoisting my bags and preparing to leave our home. We checked out at 8.30 and it looked as if we had dragged our poor kitten, Wilbur together on the trip, caged along the way to Johor Bahru, Malaysia. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Almost 5 hours on the road, we came to our destination-JOHOR BAHRU (JB)! Johore/Johor Bahru; abbreviated as JB) is the capital city of Johor in southern Malaysia, the second most populous city in Malaysia and the most populous city in southern Malaysia. Johor Bahru is the southern most city of the Eurasian mainland. You can find so many Singaporeans here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Austin Heights, Golf and Country Resort,... read more

And this was my mini pre-Xmas fishing trip cum one-day KL getaway, with a few of my friends (YK, X and RP), some of whom have made special "appearances" before on this blog. The kelong itself was called the "Hot Boys Kelong" (I don't even want to start to explain myself), and it was actually my second time there (...) Basically one of those fishing packages where you pay for board and lodging, which in this case was a creaky old single bed in dormitory-style accomodation, and simple seafood-oriented Asian meals. In return you get to fish from a kelong located in the middle of the sea, from a specially-constructed fish farm, with unlimited smelly squid bait. How could one miss? As I'd mentioned, this was my second time, so I kinda knew what to expect. ... read more

Saturday, 15th December 2012 Our staycation at 11@Century Hotel in Johor Bahru marked the end of my travels for the year 2012. Like all my previous years, my vacation plans for December is normally geared towards short retreats given the inflated costs of travel during the festive season. There was a terrible jam of people at the Kranji bus station as we awaited for our turn to board our bus 170 to JB town. After clearing the customs, it was usual story at Johor Bahru City Square to have a quick Yong Tau Foo lunch at Ah Koong before heading to our hotel at Taman Century. As usual, our taxi fare would be the standard RM 8 for the 10 minutes ride. As I documented our less than pleasant stay in url=http://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g298278-d2334538-r147535258-11_Century_Hotel-Johor_Bahru_Johor_Bahru_District_Johor.htmltripadvisor... read more
