21 - 22 November 2015 - Jaipur We left Pushkar and all its temporary accommodation and bazaars, travelling along a pretty good road with fewer cattle. We continued to see camels and horses on their way to the Camel Fair, as well as over-loaded busses of pilgrim Indians. After about 100kms we stopped for coffee. The coffee in India is not too bad but their specialty is the masala tea - black or white. It's OK but that is coming from a usual non-tea drinker. Tom likes it. We only had 140kms to drive today so we arrived in Jaipur at about 12.30pm and had a massage which Ravi organized for us. My masseuse was a little short plump friendly lady. Tom had a bloke who perhaps could have used a bit more muscle! We both ... read more

We arrived in Jaipur late in the evening and checked into the four star hotel we had booked for 2 days as a wee treat. It did not disappoint. We had a huge room, a HOT shower, a kettle with teabags in our room, a swimming pool, a lift, people holding doors open for us and free buffet breakfast with live music. On our first full day we went to visit the historical tourist attractions Jaipur has to offer. The first stop was the city palace, which is still home to the Maharaja (King) of the City. The Raj still had influence during British rule but this was significantly reduced after independence until the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, reduced the Raj to a tourist attraction in 1971 The once powerful house still has considerable wealth which ... read more

We were both woken out of our deep sleep by the young indian guy who changes the bed linen on the trains. "Jodhpur" he says. Looking around us, the cabin was almost empty, like the people who were laying in their beds a few hours ago had snuck off in the night. Looking at our watch, it was only 6am. Relieved, we said we are going to Jaipur. We had at least another 4 hours. "No, Jodhpur" he said again. Given that we'd just woken up we were slightly confused; we understood where we were (in Jodhpur) but were not sure if this particular train had terminated and we needed to board a 'connecting' train. Due to our non existent hindi we couldn't get much info from the linen guy other then "Jodhpur" and the occasional head ... read more

The next few destinations in India were all in the state of Rajasthan, both me and Laila had them on our to do (Fortunately my do to list was rather unstructured/ not organised at all) and she was kind enough to let me accompany her. Rajasthan itself had a different feel to both Delhi and Agra, many people seemed friendlier and despite still being a highly populated area wasn't quite as busy as Agra and certainly not as hectic as Delhi. The guest house was a big improvement on the last in both cleanliness and size and the room had much more attractive décor. Initially the concept of natural light entering the room seemed like a bonus but with windows comes noise and India isn't the most serene place in the world. Jaipur (the pink city, ... read more

From Jodhpur I took an early train towards Jaipur, another interesting city in Rajasthan, the state of the forts and palaces! I booked a seat in a “sleeper-class” which wasn’t too bad. I booked the train at the station three days in advance since the trains are often fully booked in India. While standing in the line at the counter, many Indians just walk in front of you instead of standing behind you and waiting for their turn in the line. I’ve encountered this more often and I started to be very serious about it and there is no way I let them jump in front of me. One time I had to push a guy away a little bit when he tried to approach the counter from the side. Same problem goes for the trains, ... read more

I wish I could say I woke up refreshed, unfortunately I woke up groggy, Just before 3am. Despite wearing ear plugs, Molly Browns snoring thundered around the room. After about half an hour and no sign of letting up, I got up and gently tapped her back. 'Pearl, I'm really sorry but your snoring is so loud' I said. I'm on my side she replied. Don't you have earplugs? I told her that yes I did have earplugs and I was wearing them, but could still hear her snoring as it is really loud. I got back into bed and after about half an hour, slowly started to drift back to sleep when ZZZZZZZZZ the snoring started again. I put my iPod on thinking a bit of low music may drown it out, but about 3 ... read more

Shakira woke me at about 0715-she had been up and about for hours. I'd set my alarm for 0645, but had slept through it-that and all the horns, I must of been tired. As I'd not unpacked much, there was little to do apart from wash and change and head downstairs for breakfast. I didn't really fancy curry or anything else lined up on the buffet table. I don't know if I'd been reading too much into avoiding Delhi belly, but I'd read to stay away from food that had been left out or reheated, and apply the rule only eat if it can be boiled cooked or peeled. With that in mind I picked out a couple of bananas and put them in my bag for later on. Leaving the hotel, I can only liken ... read more

HE SAID... We were travelling west from Fort Madhogarh to Jaipur, and we didn’t want to leave. We were woken early at 5.45am to the blasting sound of music from the village below. We’d watched a wedding procession through the village the day before, in which women were dancing from house to house behind an old land rover with a massive sound system on board. We thought the music was related to the wedding celebrations, but we later discovered that it was a very modern and hip call to prayer! We sat down to breakfast at 8am, and we were freezing cold. The morning mist that was blanketing the village was sweeping over the open dining area, and we had pulled on every piece of warm clothing that we could muster. I had cornflakes with hot ... read more

Konečně pryč z davu a v přírodě. Přicházíme na hlavní nádvoř&... read more

A vyrážíme.
