Geo: 26.9196, 75.7878We left Delhi on Friday morning at 8am. We were told it was a 6 hour drive to Jaipur and we would have lunch in the hotel when we arrived. The traffic was as chaotic as ever and it took us 3 hours to clear the metropolitan area of Delhi. The trip was long but interesting. I wondered when we would see some rural areas as the land alongside the road was very built up. However eventually there were fields with animals such as goats and cows wandering amidst the rubbish which lays in huge heaps along the Highway. After 4 hours we had a loo stop at a cafe and gift shop complex. We had a refreshing beer there. From that point on into Jaipur the most astonishing sights were the huge number of trucks ... read more

I along with my family decided to visit Jaipur as to come out of our routine. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan popular known as "Pink City" is an excellent weekend destination for travellers living in nearby cities and town. It has the blend of modern facilities and historical importance. This experience proved quite pleasant and relaxing as we decided to travel by road, which in turn provided opportunity to drive and dine on the highway which made the whole journey more enjoyable and interesting and as comfortable as one feel in his own city. Being relaxation and breaking the routine was the idea which made us spend most of our time in hotel. Swimming got developed as an interest for few years proved helpful to get refreshed while stay at hotel. Being summer season, evening was ... read more

During my Jaipur trip I visited Birla Mandir along with my family. It is located in the heart of city. Temple is very beautiful and made of white marvel. Temple complex is splendid, very neat and clean and full of greenery and most importantly you can have Holy Darshan of God. They have arrangement for depositing your shoes before entering the main temple. There are some handicraft and other shops also at the entrance of temple complex. Ice cream vendors and snacks hawkers are in numbers just outside the temple complex. It is a very nice evening out option. I would say this is a nice place and must visit during Jaipur trip.... read more

We left Jaipur at around 6am on our train, riding in AC3 chair cars this time. Fairly comfortable, with more leg room and better reclining seats than any airplanes I remember. The train pulled into Delhi Railway Station around 11am and our guide had two minivans waiting to take us to our hotel, Hotel Perfect again. The trip was almost boring this time since we’d been in Delhi before and had experienced the traffic numerous times. This time we had a more luxurious room on the 2nd floor, with a clean bathroom and intact shower. After a brief meeting telling us we had free time until the farewell dinner tonight, Manoli and I went back to the South Indian vegetarian restaurant Saravana Bhavan for lunch, expecting several others of our group to show up soon. Unfortunately, ... read more

Today we are going to visit the Amber Fort, and then Melaney and I are going to Eleday for several hours of playing with elephants. The same, or a similar tour was offered by Viator, but it was $99 for just one person, plus it seemed like it would conflict with our Intrepid tour, so I had figured I wouldn’t get to do it. However, our nice guide found the details for us and it turned out to be only about $60 each. Intrepid doesn’t believe in elephant rides and such, feeling they mistreat the animals, so our guide couldn’t actually book it for us, but he did give us all the details and arranged for a tuk-tuk to take us there. We all piled into tuk-tuks for the long trip out of Jaipur to the ... read more

We had no internet access in Tordi Garh, so I still haven’t caught up on my blog. After a pretty good night’s sleep at the Tordi Palace, we packed up, had breakfast, and climbed aboard our bus to Jaipur. This was the same bus we’d arrived in, having been parked there by the hotel the whole time. I don’t remember seeing the driver and assistant anywhere, but I assume they too spent the night at the hotel. The ride out to the main road was just as bad as it was coming in, and of course the main “highway” to Jaipur also left something to be desired. We arrived in Jaipur around 11:30 and pulled up in front of our new hotel for the next two nights, Ulsav Niwas. This hotel was similar in nature to ... read more

As usual, we woke up, got packed, and went down for breakfast in the hotel before leaving for our bus to Tordi Garh. We had a decent breakfast buffet with corn flakes, eggs, yogurt, toast, juice and coffee. At about 7:30, we all piled into the same mini-bus from the day before and headed to the bus stand from which we’d take the bus to a town near Jaipur, then jeeps from there to Tordi Garh. The first bus turned out to be a rather old bus, without air conditioning, but we mostly only shared it with another tour group and a few local passengers. After negotiating the chaotic streets of Agra, we hit the major toll highway. This was probably one of the better highways in India, but it was still rather bumpy and full ... read more

A leisurely breakfast at the Nagaur fort. The staff are all on tenterhooks with the VIPs staying. We exchange “good morning” greetings with the Chairman of the BJP as he sets off for his morning meetings outside the fort. He is trailed by four or five of his entourage and five of the mean looking soldiers with flitting eyes and fingers on the triggers of their Uzis. David thinks about asking for a photo of Mr Amit Singh but a look at those guys persuades him otherwise. Probably not a good idea to raise a long barrelled lens at him. This guy is apparently Prime Minister Narendra Modi's chief adviser and they are clearly very nervous about possible assassination, of which of course India has a history from Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi onwards. We leave ... read more
