Connections and Print-outs Back to some of my roots! My fifth time to India, marked by adventure, as usual! From Cape Town to Johannesburg to Mumbai to Goa, with three different airline companies, and three different tickets... which meant that, were any flights to be delayed, I would be in logistic trouble! The flight out of Cape Town was delayed... by ten minutes, but, you know that feeling of cold sweat and resignation/hope until the next announcement... to board! Whew! In Jo'burg, change from domestic to International and queue to check in, under the stipulated two hours, hoping that the never-ending line is for my flight, not some later one and that I will get there too late! Tricks the mind plays when left with too much time to think of scenarios! Anyway, all went ... read more

Yesterday was market day in Mapusa. It is not a toursit market, more of a local thing. Which I like better. Lots of fabrics, clothes, and lots of fruits and veggies. Here is a typical day at the market: -How much a kg of this? -40 Rs. You want 2 kg? -No, no, half a kilo is fine. -Here, very fresh, very good, cheap cheap, 2 kg for 80 Rs. -No, no, just half a kilo. -Here is a kilo, 40 Rs. -Ah, Ok then. Next place, fabrics: -I like this fabric. How much is it? -70 Rs, you take 4 m? -No, I just need 2.5 m. For a top. -Take this color also. Very good. Light cotton. Where are you from? -Canada. -Cold in Canada? -Yes, very cold. -We have woolen fabric, very good ... read more

I have been here 2 weeks already and I can't believe it. In a way it goes by so fast, I can hardly believe it, and at the same time it feels like home. Like I always lived here. Even the guy I buy te milk from already knows at what time I will stop by... I love India. Life on the road is great. A mix of quiet time, very relax, yoga in the morning, very nice to do this here. And afternoons going "to town", to buy some supplies, in the crazy pace of India. Although Goa is a lot mellower than Mumbai. But it is still busy, with trucks and rickshaw and cows and people and elephants on the street. I love it. I love the smells, the colors, the people, I think ... read more

Where should I start.... Well, the yoga here is AMAZING! So different to do yoga in the heat... My body loves it anyway. And since yesterday was a day off, it was time to go see the beach. AMAZING beach, some areas are super crowded but others are much much better. Walking on the sand, being offered 10 necklaces for 200 rupies, "best morning price ma'am". It's fun. I love it. Then Iain taught me a nice river where we covered ourselves with clay. Waw, Amazing how the skin gets soft after that! Nice to have someone to show me the cool places around! Then it was time for food and more time doing not much, drinking lassi and more lassi and then back home on the scooter. And in the evening it was the Arpora ... read more

OH Goa.....what can i say? never a dull moment here. The sun was shining as brightly as the trance loving israelis. This was the epi center for traveller fashion ( consisting of ali baba pants, you know like aladdin wears, crystals all shapes and sizes, dreadlocks, strange fanny packs, shirts and bags with the third eye and om symbol emblonized ) poi skill polishing ( long ropes with fireballs at the end that they twirl and whirl around to the music ) and partying. sounds like the perfect place to spend christmas right? wrong. but we made the best of it. i dont want to sound too sour....i think i am just old, well older. we also came to meet our dear friend will, who was freshly recovering from surgery. so if anyone needs to know anything ... read more

Terve ystavat! Pyydan anteeksi passiivisuuttani taman blogin suhteen. Tama paikka vaan saa unohtamaan koko menneisyytensa. Kuulumiset talla kertaa on hyvaa ja pahaa. Maanmainioita ihmisia on taas tullut tavattua ympari maailmaa ja meininki on paaasiassa ihan hyvaa, mita nyt uutenavuotena sain turpaani joltain Inkkarisekopaalta. Siihen liittyykin sitten aivan helvetinmoinen tarina, jota en tassa rupea selvittamaan. Talla hetkella mietteeni liikkuvat Goalta pois lahtemisessa ja sen aionkin toteuttaa heti kun saan kamppani vuokrattua viimeiseksi 2 kuukaudeksi jollekkin. Ylimaaraista irtaimistoa ajattelin myoskin yrittaa kaupata, koska rahavarainnot parin ikavan yllatyksen jalkeen alkavat uhkaavasti kuihtua. Taidan tassa jossain vaiheessa joutua elamaan kuin Intialainen, eli ilman rahaa. Matkavakuutuskaan ei ole enaa voimassa, joten taytyy valttaa suurimmat tapaturmat yms. Yksi toinen... read more

So, my blog works now... Good. Because I have to say that I am in heaven. I left Mumbai a couple days ago and it was very exciting to take the train in India. Savio dropped me off at the station and right away we heard it was delayed by more than an hour. But once in the train all was fine, and by the time I got to Thivim it was almost 3 hours late. The train was fun, it was a night train, so pretty soon I climbed on my berth to sleep. I was tired from not sleeping much the night before. I slept very good and was mpressed how quiet it was. The sound of the train was covering the snoring so it was good. At 6 am sharp, the caterers started ... read more

Arrived in Goa to the most extreme humidity I had experienced so far on this trip. It was 34 degrees or so. After bartering with the taxi driver over price I was off to Anjuna beach. I chose this beach because according to lonely planet it is visited by plenty of backpackers but is one of the few beaches left in Goa untouched by the package holiday industry. Anjuna beach is legendary for being one of the beaches all the hippies came to party in the 60's! Also for it's wild beach partys around christmas time. So my driver drops me off right on the beach and I had to start shopping around for a place to stay. It was the first time I felt like a real backpacker and felt very independant but also a ... read more
