airport arrival
we cheated ..again, we flew. we avoided the 2 day journey on the train. OH Goa.....what can i say? never a dull moment here. The sun was shining as brightly as the trance loving israelis. This was the epi center for traveller fashion ( consisting of ali baba pants, you know like aladdin wears, crystals all shapes and sizes, dreadlocks, strange fanny packs, shirts and bags with the third eye and om symbol emblonized ) poi skill polishing ( long ropes with fireballs at the end that they twirl and whirl around to the music ) and partying. sounds like the perfect place to spend christmas right? wrong. but we made the best of it. i dont want to sound too sour....i think i am just old, well older. we also came to meet our dear friend will, who was freshly recovering from surgery. so if anyone needs to know anything about hospitals in goa, call me, we've been there done that. we spent 1 week in anjuna beach, which was crazy busy which reflected the price inflation. we met some really cool people, and ran into an old face from the trek in nepal. There was also weekly markets here ( the biggest in goa) with endless amazing stalls filled with jewellery, clothing, bed spreads,
Awesome ..right!?!?
Kim perching on the platform where the cliff steeply meets the ocean. yes that garbadge you see. probably some sewage too. lanterns, sandals, local handmade stuff from ex-pats ( foreigners who live there ) and crazy colorful stuff from gypsies. who, by the way, where killer sales people. speaking of salesmen, one thing about anjuna beach was all the beach salespeople, little girls selling jewellery, middle age men trying to sell massages and ear cleaning ( from the looks of it, his product was cotton balls and a metal spear like thing ) fruit ladies, sticker and necklace kids, beggers so on and so forth. every five minutes these people would approach you. it was kinda funny after a while because the jewellery girls would come up to you and ask you how much things you bought from other girls were. "how much you pay for that sarong/anklet/bracelet?" i dont know if it was so they knew how ripped off you got, or to make note how much to quote someone later. so we would just make up ridiculously low prices. after a while they recognized us day after day, and they would just sit with us and talk.
We left anjuna beach a couple days before new years and headed south of goa to a beach called patnem. If there
WHHOOOOO!!
GOOD TIMES swimming in our underwear and drinking Kingfisher beer!! was a beach model this would be it . all the huts and resteraunts where placed directly beach front, literally steps from it. the vibe was totally different as well. there were more families and couples. so it was much quieter and mellow. we stayed 5 days and spent new years here. we met a group of swedish people that night and spent it with them as well. it was super fun night, but most of my pictures turned out strangely. we had a huge seafood dinner, lit off fireworks, and had good times ringing in the new year with sand in our toes.
