Geo: 22.2894, 114.148Today we visited the Central Mid Level Escalators and Walking System. It was built in 1993 and is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. The entire systems covers 800 metres or 2600 feet in distance. We took the escalators up and then walked back down. From 6 am till 10 am it runs downhill and then from 10:30 am till late at night it runs uphill. We then wandered along Hollywood Street to our hotel. In the afternoon we did a little shopping before the rain started. For dinner we had one of our first Western meals of the trip. After dinner we got our suitcases organized as we fly back to Shanghai tomorrow. We have a taxi coming for us at 4 am!... read more

I can't believe I have been here for this long and have only just discovered this place. I had a co-worker of mine come to HK for the week to conduct interviews and such and get a grasp on what I have been doing for the past 8 weeks. I asked a mutual friend who is also based here in HK if he wanted to come meet us for a beer in Mui Wo. He was unable but said "Make sure you take Andy to the infinity pool outside of Tai O." I looked into it and I was instantly hooked! Sept 9 is the Mid Autumn Festival which is a national holiday so nearly everyone had the day off work. We were unable to gain access to the airport on a day like this, so ... read more

We have made it as far as the Vancouver airport! We are relaxing in the Premium Lounge, having a beer, before our 2 am flight to Hong Kong. Susan got a deal on the lounge passes on Groupon and I'm glad she did. It's a nice way to start our trip. It's quiet here, there is lots of comfortable seating and food and drink. Our cats are in good hands with our catsitter Ni. We're so glad she's staying in our place taking care of the cats while we're away. Ella knew something was up because of the suitcases. She always hides when visitors come but she came out when before we left so we know she'll be ok with Ni while we're away. Our friend and neighbour Myron drove us to the airport - thanks ... read more

Hi Everyone, Today was one of my favorite days since I have been to Hong Kong. It started off with an early morning phone call cancelling the work I had to get done for the day. It was a true full day off and it was 6am. What to do? I opened my curtains and was greeted with yet another sunny day and a "very hot weather" warning coming through on my phone. I decided to take a trip out to Sai Kung which is an area of HK known as the "New Territories" To get there takes about 2 1/2 hours via public transportation. I took the DB03R to Sunny Bay MTR station where I hopped on to the Tung Chung line towards Central Station. I transferred to the Tsuen Wan line in Tsing Yi ... read more

Today was the first official full day of the tour. I was up early as we were meeting at 8am to get the bus and go hiking. I nipped to Maccy D's for breakfast before meeting the others. We were joined by Stuart from Northern Ireland and Ged and Lauren form Calafornia. We all headed out to the tube and then caught a bus up to Victoria park. It was a hot day as usual and the bus was full. When the bus terminated we got off and walked up the view point which had two sides, one with a view out over the sea and the other a view out over the city and took lots of photos and then walked down the winding path. I'm so glad we did it this way as the ... read more

For my first full day in Hong Kong I decided to go exploring. I had a city map and had noticed that they had a able car which lead up to the great Buddha. I enquirer at reception as how to get there, and was given some helpful advice by an English girl who had been there herself. So armed with the info I headed off to negotiate my way on the tube. First stop was Macdonalds for breakfast. I then found an entrance to the tube as inward told there were several entrances I was bound to find one. I sussed out which line and direction I needed to travel and also how to get a ticket. I boarded the tram went for a couple of stops and then changed lines and rode the tram ... read more

Hi everyone back home Well, it's 30 deg plus here - hot - hot -hot. 90% humidity. First day we got horribly lost, walked for miles (it seemed) in the wrong direction. Oh dear!! Today we did much better. Maps actually do help. ha ha. We went across to Tsim sha Tsui (chim sar choy) on the ferry. Had a wander round area. See photo's. Will try to post in a couple of days from London. Oh, I forgot to mention, if I ever win lotto, I am bringing all the daughters in law and daughter and sister etc for a shopping spree. This place is unbelievable for gorgeous clothes, and beautiful childrens wear.... read more
