hoi iedereen, Alles is hier tip top.

Hello people, Today I got up about 1030 and had a shower and went down and had some breakfast and then went on the Internet. Then I realised the time and John had not appeared so I went and woke him up as we had 15 minutes until we had to check out. We then packed up our stuff and went to find some food for John, this done, we then started to find our way to the bus to Yangshuo. On the way John noticed a shop which sold converse (or converse style) shoes but the girl painted any number of literally 100s of designs on the shoes. She was really talented as the ones on display were really good. So we mulled over the various options looking at about 4 or 5 folders full ... read more

Day 6 - Yangshuo Day 6 was my first "testing" day. We did a 14 kilometre bike ride through the mountains for Yangshuo. Its is soo pretty but let me tell you...those bike seats are HARD!!!! (in fact it seems everything in China is including the bloody beds - am hanging out for a soft mattress - im sure sleeping on the floor would be an improvement!). So yeh the ride was tough (for me at least) my asthma kicked in (followed by the ventolin shakes) and after an incident where my chain came off (almost popping my knee cap in the process) and it took Dean and Mike about half an hour to get it back on after it got jammed well and truly and Dean almost losing his fingers I gave up on trying ... read more

Hi all, Finally have arrived in a place really set up for tourists. This is seriously the Noosa of China. The area has approx 2000 of these seriously beautiful and wierd small mountains called karsts that are made from limestone but not eroded like the surrounding land. Lots of farming in between them. LOTS of good cafes and a gorgeous hotel room with balcony. This morning went to the local markets and could have bought fresh killed dog or cat or a nicley dried rat if we had wanted. Yesterday we did a cycling tour and had lunch at a local house which was great - good to do some exercise at last after all that personal training preparation which it seemed we did not need after all. Lastnight went to a light show on the ... read more

* YES the people really do spit in the streets * YES the toilets can be gross (mostly squats and BYO toilet paper) * YES the scenery is as amazing as we were expecting * China's biggest city ISN'T Shanghai or Beijing, stuffed if I can remember the name of it, but it's somewhere in the middle I think and has THIRTY TWO million people Ok that's it for now...we're off to dinner mmmm. Oh and for those that know me and how much my stomach (blood sugar) rules my life.....nothing has changed! Hhahahaha, at least 10 times a day I utter the words "gee i'm hungry" and have a personal stash of chocolates and lollies in my bag hahaha. Oh, and Dean and Kate are terribly nasty and won't indulge me in football talk! hahaha. ... read more

Day 4 -Leaving HK and Sleeper Train to Guilin So our tour started for real on the morning of Day 4. Our group is fantastic. Our leader is Jerry (yes that's his "Aussie" name) and he's a local and just the funniest guy. He loves having us teach him slang to use. There are 9 of us in the group. Kate, Dean and I (Kate and I are referred to as wife #1 and #2 seeing as up until recently the chinese men could have many wives). Then there is two couples probably similarly aged to Dean & I - an English couple 4 months in to their 1 year honeymoon travelling around thw world (wow!), an Aussie couple from Northern NSW, another young pommy guy who is also travelling the world, and an older retired ... read more

Well yesterday's internet session was pretty rushed - not to mention we had no idea how much we were going to pay for how long and SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE in the room agh. Today we have it sussed in our current hotel - 5 Yuan for a half hour, that's not even a $1!!!!! Soooo I have some time to properly time up what we've been up to on days 1-5 of our trip. Day 1 - Hong Kong The flight was ok, but I was royally p'd off as they downgraded our plane - we were supposed to have individual screens with video on demand but agh no such luck. We got stuck watching whatever dodgy movie they threw up on the screen that was WAY away ftom us anyway, ah well. We stayed at ... read more
