The Chimelong area is divided into 4 different attractions and a hotel facility, which offers discounts and bonuses to their clients. The Chimelong Safari Park, Chimelong Paradise (amusement park), the Chimelong International Circus (an evening event), and the Chimelong Water Park (which I will never visit because of my aquaphobia)). It took me two full day trips to see all of the 3 attractions I could allow myself to visit but I do warn you that it is an expensive place to visit but worth every RMB spent. Chimelong Safari Park I will start with the Chimelong Safari Park which, as the name suggest, is a preserve area turned into a profitable entertainment to protect wild animals while exposed them directly (in some cases) to humans. It is a very wonderful place to visit which includes ... read more

I had a visitor! My friend Kelly, came to visit me. I still had to work and so during the day Kelly had to entertain herself but during the time we had together we did a lot! Hong Kong Disneyland, Sea World Ice and Snow display, Window of the World and the Zoo. It was only a week since my birthday, only a week since I left Disney and I was back again but this time only for a day. Kelly didn't know where we were going and I wanted to keep it that was so on the last metro ride (which is Disney themed) I blindfolded Kelly and didn't let her see until we were outside entrance. We spent the day in the park, on the rides, looking in the shops and talking. After the ... read more

Huanghuagang is more than just a park. Beyond the heavy metal gates you enter a very wonderful collection of sights. Included within the grounds of this park is a protected forest of endangered species of plants, flowers, and trees but that is not all. A section reserved for 72 martyrs of the Guangzhou Revolution (March 29th,1911) can be found here among the trees and lively vegetation. Ancient statues are also noticeable on the grounds of this massive park. I will admit that I visited this park on my first full day in Guangzhou and was not prepared for the distance I would be covering in this park. Pathways both of stone and wood snake around the differing sections of this massive place. Small pagodas and large open areas are places throughout the park to give everyone ... read more

I know what you are thinking. Halloween isn't until the 31st October and yes, you are right. But this is the school's Halloween day. A day of games, dressing up and fun. We were told by our contact teacher that we could dress up. Val and I decide to get Minnie Mouse outfits. Val wore hers as advertised and went as Minnie Mouse, and with a few alterations I became Zombie Minnie Mouse. Every one loved it, especially the children. I had my photo taken all day long. Laura, Val and I were tasked with an out door game for the children during the morning. We decided to use the holla hoops, putting them in a row of four and showing the children they need to jump from hoop to hoop and putting each one over ... read more

As I previously mentioned, there are many small parks and a few squares all over the city of Guangzhou. I present to you Tuanyida Square, Haizhu Square/Park, the Huapin Xinfeng art exhibit, and scenes from the multiple small parks of Guangzhou (e.i.: Tian Zi Pier). Tuanyida Square Tuanyida Square (founded on May 5th, 1922) is not a massive area but a small and simple monument to the city and the nation. This purely red structure may look imposing but sit near the metro station that shares it’s name. The heavy concrete tiles are surrounded on three side by trees that give shade to people having lunch upon the back side of and the edge of the square this monument was built. Upon the front, the story of it’s creation and purpose is written while the back ... read more

"Train Ride" As I have stated before, I'm not a fan of train rides. This ride to Shenzhen Dong Station (Shenzhen East Train Station) didn't feel like what I excepted as I waited to board the train alone once more. This ride was not a first for me during this trip and definitely wouldn't be the last. I had a lone subway ride with a transfer waiting for me in Shenzhen. I can say that a ride in a tube underground never sounded pleasant to me but it wasn't that bad. Compared to the black mirror of a night time train ride, it was heavenly in my eyes. I did stare at the same blank reflection in the window but ignored it mostly because I was laying down and writing during the long train ride. I ... read more

Rapid Trains of China After spending close to 2 days of walking around the area of Luohu, it was time for my journey to continue. I had a few new experience at this moment. First was buying a ticket from an automated ticket dispenser. This machine even gave you the option to have the information presented in English which was a refreshing change for me. I headed to the ticket and ID check post joining a long line of people taking this train which ran very often during the day. I was ready for this since I had faced it a few times now but I was not prepared to this sleeker version of a train known as the “C.R.H.”. The bullet shaped front and back end of the “rapid train” is similar to the photos ... read more

3-9-16 Flying to Guangzhou to join our Five Stans Trip, our small group tour was organised through Travel Directors in Perth, Australia. Flying time was only 9 1/2 hours, a four movie flight for Alex and a couple beers and snooze for Ron. Guangzhou, is the third largest city behind Beijing and Shanghai and was formerly known as Canton, located on the Pearl river and about 120km north-northwest of Hong Kong. We arrived on Saturday evening and after an hour getting through custom we were happy to check into the Pullman Hotel located at the airport in time for a cold beer and supper before turning in. 4-9-16 Since the rest of the tour group wasn't arriving until evening we set off in the morning to explore the city. Ron liked the challenge of navigating the ... read more

Oh my what a week it’s been. After arriving in China I was met by a Chinese lady who works for the company I'm starting with. She was kind enough to meet me at Huanggang border Checkpoint. However what she forgot to tell me and what I didn't know, was that you had to get off the bus in Hong Kong, go through security to get back on the bus to be taken to China for more security checks. Consequently I stood around in the bus station for approx. half an hour waiting for her. I started feeling as though something wasn't quite right. I had a text message in Chinese that she had sent me earlier and after showing it to someone at the station they pushed me on the next bus. Luckily I have ... read more
