Hello: After a fantastic, but smog laiden week in Beijing, I'm off to the train station to board the 48 hour train ride to Lhasa, Tibet. This may be my last chance at an internet connection for at least a couple of days. I'm sure the monks in Lhasa will have wifi!! I hope all is well. Enjoy your turkey dinners!!! As much as I love the food adventures here, I'm really missing my full Thanksgiving dinner. Think of me as you enjoy. I will send an update as soon as I am able!! Jeff... read more

Although a little repetitive, the forbidden city was definitely worth the trip! The architecture was really amazing, but I kind of wish it wasn't so restored.... read more

Today was the first day of our official tour of China. We were told to meet at 11am (which seemed late to us) in the front of the hostel ready for our day out. This was the first time we properly met the group, there are 15 of us, 3 boys and 12 girls aged between 19 - 24 and everyone seems nice. We also officially met our tour guide, a Chinese lady called Yiang Yiang who will be with us for our time in Beijing. It seems odd to be in a tour group now, I have been so acustomed to independant travelling with James that the whole 15 people following a tour guide thing may wear a tad thin after a while, but for now we'll see how it goes. We boarded a bus ... read more

Hey guys! Finally managed to find an internet cafe in Shanghai with a decent internet connection. We're having a great time so far. The flight to Beijing was brilliant.... we were upgraded so I made the most of it and slept all the way on their reclining beds! Mamiji you will be proud of me- I managed to wake up in time for dinner and breakfast! Day 1 in Beijing- The fun begins So it's pouring with rain when we leave the airport to get to our hotel and we decide to get the metro to (what we thought was) a nearby station called Dongsi. 1 hour later...... still raining 3 hours later...... still raining (a bit worried) 4 hours later...... still raining but it's ok, we've still got the Blackber.... no, wait, it just died. ... read more

June 30th Thursday Ok. I was so tired yesterday I couldn’t even change out of my clothes or write the blog for what I did. I don’t remember when we got back but I do know that I was awake at 530am and we walked all day till nightfall. Yesterday we did 4 things: first we went to Jingshan park, then the Forbidden City, then traveled to the opera house (which was shaped like an egg), then we saw then we saw a kungfu show. When we arrived at Jingshan park first thing I noticed was the row of bicycles at the entrance. Basically Jingshan Park is where one of china’s emperors, I believe from the Ming dynasty, climbed up the hill in despair at not being able to save Beijing and then hung himself on ... read more

Today was my first encounter with a Chinese breakfast. We ate breakfast at the hotel and found it to be much different than a typical American breakfast. There were vegetables, rice, and different types of bread with filling. Even though I was missing my traditional cereal, I am taking a liking to the porridge which is like watery oatmeal. The group journeyed to the Jingshan Park before going to the Forbidden City. We were able to see Chinese people dancing outside in the park to music for exercise. We also saw people ribbon dancing. After climbing up to the top area of the park we saw the Forbidden City for the first time. It was impressive to see something so large that was built many thousands of years ago, but it was hard to get a ... read more

JUNE29TH Wednesday 6:30am I’m pissed that the government banned YouTube, facebook, and wiki answers in Beijing. How the heck am I supposed to know how hot 35celcius is when I can’t access wiki answers? It’s 6:59 so we have to go to breakfast soon at around 7:30 before we board the bus to Forbidden City. ... read more

Hi everybody, my travels are sadly almost at an end. I really hope you have enjoyed reading this, as I have done my best to tell about my travelling. Things to note about Xi'an. It is a very smoggy place, and you can really feel it when walking around town. This probably also resulted in me getting very sleepy all the time. So blame Xi'an and not me for the huge amount of time I spent sleeping. Other than that it's a fun city with a lot of things to offer. Anyway on to the story of my travels Day 23 This day I was picked up by my guide and we went to see some tomb areas at first, with temples and everything and afterwards to see the Terrakotta warriors. It was interesting to see ... read more

Here is the recollection of my fantastic adventures in Yangshuo. Hope you like it. Day 19 Waking up early. Too early for my phone/alarm apparently as it failed to make any attemp to wake me. So I was woken up by my guide calling me on the hotelphone and asking where I was all the while I looked at the clock and realised that I had 5 minutes to pack all my belongings, brush my teeth and forget everything about breakfast, a truly happy and calm morning for me. But fortunately I momentarily became the master of time and space and made it down, only 2 minutes late. We headed out and managed to keep to the schedule of reaching the riverarea of the town, where a large boat was waiting for me and othe passengers. ... read more

"Massive" blog today as I wrote about my stay in Hong Kong in details. My current whereabouts are now Beijing, at a hotel located very near the back entrance to the Forbidden City. So I am pretty central, but it does not matter much, as this place is enormous, and it takes a lot of time just getting anywhere on foot. I am feeling pretty proud today as I climbed the Great Wall and can now call myself a real man and a hero. Huzzah! I will try to get blogs about my stay in wonderful Yangshuo and Xi'an up tomorrow or the next day and then on the last day, the 28th of june, I will post a blog about my time in Beijing. I will write a final blog after that, after I return ... read more
