We continued our exploration of Victoria falls by going back into Zambia to see them from that side. We didn't think it could get any better - but it really was just as incredible from this other vantage point. Before entering the park to see the falls from this side - we first stopped at an outdoor craft market - with the intent to browse and shop around at our leisure. Silly Americans - we had NO idea... You do not browse in these markets - you get ambushed and attacked basically! Jeff and I were split up almost immediately and were each being talked up by at least two people if not more and then other people were trying to put things on us... It was wild. We did get to buy some things but ... read more

Our itinerary says that few superlatives can be used to describe Victoria Falls and boy is that right! We caught our flight this morning from Jo'burg to Livingstone and arrived here in Livingstone earlier this afternoon. Zambia is definitely much more remote than South Africa - or at least than Johannesburg. The flight again was uneventful - we were shocked that they served us lunch on the plane for only an hour and a half flight. And not only lunch but chocolate and red wine too - I was in heaven. We arrived at our hotel - the Protea Livingstone - and were again so taken away by how lovely it is here. After checking in and toasting our arrival in Zambia - we headed off on our helicopter tour. We were both very excited about ... read more

I arrived in Livinstone after an epic wait in customs to get my visa, but I made it through customs and to the campsite where I was starting my journey. It was right on the Zambezee river and had a fab view. I had a beer in the bar and met some fellow travellers before being shown to our tent and meeting the rest of our group. The next day I explored Victoria Falls, a short taxi ride away, with Peter and Sarah, fellow Brits. The falls were spectacular and we spent most of the morning there. Then we went to the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe where there is a bridge that you can bungee jump from. I didn't do it but Peter did! Sarah and I watched and enjoyed the view! That evening we ... read more

As you approach the Zambia/Zimbabwe boarder you can see spray lifting into the atmosphere. The deafening sound of thunder echoes through the canyon as you glimpse the falls though the mist. As you reach for your camera an unexpected downpour causes it to malfunction. You try to run for cover as another downpour leaves you soaking wet. You soon realise dodging downpour’s is a fine art in Zambia as you visit the 7th Natural Wonder Of The World - The Victoria Falls. The falls are stunning, the sound is deafening, and the spray is cold. Rainbows form in the mist while baboons try to steal your belongings. Warthogs roll around in the mud as you carefully walk along the slippery pathways. For a moment the mist clears and you stand there in awe. You soon realise ... read more

Ok so I have roughly 10 weeks to go... I am so excited I couldn't even begin to put how much into words. I do feel nervous about some things (flying on my own and my health because I am such a wimp) but I suppose the nerves and the risks make it even more exciting! Really looking forward to getting out there and experiencing Africa, meeting the Lions and the Team in Livingstone and helping towards the conservation of the African Lion. I am nearly all organised now, just need to pay off the trip lol and get a few more bits. The main things are done like flights, insurance etc. I have had the first lot of vaccinations this week. The second lot are coming in May - ouch! My arm is still hurting ... read more

Hello bloggers… Danny made Malawi sound not very exciting – I thought it was lovely – nice to chill out by the beach/lake and thoroughly enjoyed my village walk….no casino or spa…but made you realise how lucky we all are to live in the western world…and I loved the children –they were so friendly and desperate for their pics to be taken, I really wanted to bring a few of them home, but danny said I would have to curb my spending…..so I am still thinking about it!! Anyhow, we then headed to Zambia. We had a couple of nights camping before we hit Livingstone and Victoria Falls (which are fantastic). One night camping we woke up to head to the toilet and found ourselves face to face disco donkeys (zebras) which was ace- did make ... read more

Wake up is at 6am for a 6:30am pickup. The tour is over but I still have another week ahead of me of selfish time. I decided to do a Lion Walk Encounter. Walking with the lions? Really – hell’s yah! Besides myself, there was a couple from Australia and a bloke from Germany. If I had to guess, we were certainly around the same age. Upon arrival we watched an educational video of the steps involved of introducing cubs into the wild. Usually every other generation of lions is successful as some of the cubs lose their fear of humans. When/if this happens, the lions will never be able to be released as most likely they will be shot if they decide to approach a human even if they just want to say hi. Afterwards, ... read more

Before Locke left, he introduced me to Eric. Eric is a local taxi driver who claims to have been a tour guide in his past career. Anyhow, as many of the activities I wanted to do weren’t available due to the minimum # of people required – I hired Eric to take me around. We started at a lunch spot that is recommended. It was so-so. The food in Zambia just isn’t all that good. We stopped at the market so I could pick up some bags of candy to bring to the Mukuni Village. It was Sunday, so I figured many of the kids would be around. We arrive at the village where there is a mandatory donation of $5. There was a lady who escorted us around the village. I asked if it was ... read more

Well, we crossed the border via foot (ferry) into Zambia from Botswana. It turns out there are trucks waiting up to 5 days to cross the border via ferry. If we kept our vehicle, we may have come across some problems, so we had a van waiting for us on the other side of the border. We stopped by an information center about all the activities in the Livingston area. I watched the videos and picked a bunch of things I would like to do. Linda got up and walked away. Coleman said he would have to think about things as the man never makes a decision. I had my 1st croc burger before heading to our lodge. It was interesting – no need to have one ever again. We were staying on the riverfront in ... read more
