Aswan Again! We took an early Egypt Air flight from Luxor to Aswan so we could arrive in time to get two full days of sightseeing! Aswan is Egypt's sunniest southern city and located about 81 miles south of Luxor. It is an ancient frontier town with a distinctively African atmosphere. Small enough to walk around and graced with the most beautiful setting on the Nile as it flows through amber desert and granite rocks, round emerald islands covered in palm groves and tropical plants. It was the country's premier winter resort from 910 to 24 BC, offering natural beauty, a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere and a warm, dry climate as it does today! Mama Canuck loves Aswan! The pace of life is slow and relaxing. While days can be spent strolling up and down the ... read more

December 26, 2008 We checked out of the Four Seasons First Residence early to catch our 7am flight to Aswan where we boarded Sonesta’s St. George ship for our three night cruise. Since Friday is the “Islamic” holiday and we left at 5:00am, traffic to the airport was light. When we arrived at Terminal 1 of 3 at Cairo International Airport, one of the Middle East’s largest airports, there was a long lineup outside of the terminal to go through initial security screening. Our bags were promptly placed on a cart after screened by an airport worker, who escorted us around long lineups to a short line at one of the check-in counters. Egyptians seem to hone in on the “big tippers”! Our one hour flight on Egypt Air was very pleasant thanks to a very ... read more

Arrival at Aswan following a restful night on the sleeper train took us straight to the hydro electric marvel that is Aswan High Damn. Built in the 1950s this hydro electric power station, and flood saviour of Egypt is an impressive sight, until recently it was the largest man made lake in the world, but has now slipped to 3rd. Next stop was to Agilika Island to see the Philae Temple. After the great pyramids, this is the first of many ancient sites to be covered in Upper Egypt. This temple, was relocated as part of the Aswan High Damn project. Back to the hotel for some relaxation time and a buffet dinner. The next day/morning was a visit to Abu Simbel, tho only a 30 minute plane flight away, the wake up call was a ... read more

Hello Everyone So we are sorry for the lack of updates but computers seem to be few and far between and over priced and we seem to be speeding around with not a whole lot of free time . . .so much to see. So we left Jordan and went onto Egypt, it took a whole day to get across the border, everything in the middle east seems to be so difficult and slow. After a few days in Dahab of snorkling and eating we went off to mount Sanai to hike up it over night to watch the sunrise from the top where appartnly Moses recieved the ten commandments. Sleeping perched on the edge of a very very high cliff is a new experiance and freezing to death. We seem to spend a lot of ... read more

I need money, lots of it, billions and pretty quick. I intend to build a second Abu Simbel but more of that later. The trek down to Aswan was done in style in a sleeper train. After arriving in Aswan we wanted to go straight down to Abu Simbel and went to the train station as we knew there would be a 11 am bus. There was a bus, we inquired if this is the 11am bus and we loaded our luggage into it and sat down to drink a tea. And we waited, and waited and.... Finally I had enough and asked the ticket guy when we are leaving to which he replied 5pm as there are not enough passengers or the 11 am bus. No one bothered to tell us. Lesson learned. We checked ... read more
