Reply to this If you haven't been to Cairo before, just spend the whole time there. Go to the citadel, the bazaar, the Egyptian Museum, and Islamic Cairo. Drink mango drinks, eat kosheri, and smoke shishas.
Reply to this cool thank you. no i have never been to egypt. should i stay in Giza or in downtown Cairo?
so its not feasible to fly down or get down to Luxor for a day and just do that + Giza or should i just do Cairo and save for another trip?
Reply to this As a visitor, you're not even going to be able to tell where Cairo ends and where Giza starts. These days, it's just one big merged metropolis. I would personally rather stay in Cairo, preferably close to a metro station.
It's possible to fly down to Luxor for a day but any huge city in the world demands more than three days. And there's more to see in Cairo than most cities. If there is something in Luxor that you absolutely have to see, then go for it. I was in Cairo for 4 days a couple years ago, didn't go anywhere else in Egypt. I also have a layover there this coming June for 3 days. I looked into doing Alexandria or Luxor this time around but I think I'm still just gonna stick to Cairo again.
Reply to this By the way, I'm pretty sure Alexandria would be the easiest day trip. Trains run every hour and take about 2 or 3 hours I think. There are buses too of course.
Reply to this i think ill just do Cairo then. Thanks for the input. I can only spend 3 days in Egypt as I am on a greece trip before and i have to return back home so its a short time. i may not return again to Egypt so i wanted to see the most i can.
Reply to this You are best just to stay in Cairo - share two days between the Egyptian Museum, the Islamic section of Cairo (Khan al-Khalili markets, the Citadel and the Mosque of Sultan Hassan) and still allow half a day for the Sphinx and Pyramids. You will be pushed to do this in two days, but it is possible if you do not loiter in the Museum for long.
On the third day, visit the nearby attractions of Saqqara - there are some beautiful tombs to see, plus you are able to go inside of the Red Pyramid without having to queue for tickets (as with Giza). You are best to hire a car and driver for this day trip, but be absolutely clear as to what you want to see and make an agreement how many hours you will use the driver for.
Reply to this Hi,
would keep it around Cairo...did exactly the same few weeks ago, just check my last blogs.
Reply to this Cairo is too big to see in one day, stay there only and visit all the possible places in cairo.
