Casablanca to Tangier

Best and fastest way to travel between these two cities

My flight from the US lands in Casablanca at 7:00 am. I plan to go immediately to Tangier, then work my way down the coast to end up back in Casablanca for my return flight. It looks like there is only one flight from Casablanca to Tangier, and that leaves around midnight, I don't fancy spending 15 hours in the airport after a long flight from California.

I looked at trains, but it looks like the train trip is 5 hours long. I don't particularly want to take a bus or taxi, both of those would take longer than the train, and probably be a lot less comfortable.

Am I missing something here? Or is a 5 hour train trip the only way I can get too Tangier before midnight? Reply to this

Hi Karen, I don't know if this helps or not, but I took the train from Casablanca to Tangier. It wasn't a bad trip, so could provide some rest and quiet time after your flight. I would definitely do the train over a bus and with the way taxis drive I would never recommend a taxi for such a long trip. Have a great time over there. Reply to this

In response to: Msg #204096 Thanks, Brendan. Do you remember if you bought your ticket in advance? It looks like I cannot book online, and I'm not sure how long it will take me to get through customs and immigration. Reply to this

I went back through all me old emails relating to this trip and did not see an advance purchase, so I am going to say I purchased it at the station. I don't remember taking a long time to get through customs and immigration, but that also depends on how many planes arrived at the same time. Reply to this

Hi,
I have been in Morocco in 2012 and travelled mainly by train. I bought the tickets in the stations just before boarding the train and everything was fine. The coaches were not overcrowded and if you want, you can take 1st class. Stations and trains are nice for African standards. An alternative would be maybe an overland bus which surely exists but I did not try them and I think they are normally slower than the railway.
Have fun,

Just to add: In you itenery you are missing the cities of Fes and Marrakech which I think are very interesting. Many People also do a tour to the desert. Reply to this

In response to: Msg #204113 Thanks for your insights. I am planning on taking the train from Tangier to Fes, and then on to Casablanca. It sounds like I will be taking the train to Tangier as well. Reply to this
