The Build-up Lindsay -Only three days until the Big Day, and despite all my best efforts there still seems to be a ton of things to do to try and attempt a perfect wedding. Anyway having a lot to do is keeping me occupied and distracted, if not exactly calm about the things I can‘t do anything about. Like the weather for example. Every morning I watch the sun come up, hoping to actually see some sky. Unfortunately it is to drizzle and grey clouds, which is adding to my increasing worry that I have made a terrible mistake by thinking I could get away from it all for a quiet (stress-free) wedding. And another major worry I’m trying to not think about, and that Russell doesn’t really get, is the myriad of sandfly bites that ... read more

Well, end of the semester is just around the corner. Just one project and 3 finals and I'm free!!! Turns out that my last final is on June 27 but my flight out of here isn't until July 10. I had no way of knowing when my last final was and I was kinda bummed because I didn't wanna be hanging around here when no one was here. Luckily I have a friend that lives in neaby Brisbane and his parents said I could stay with them. I'm not going to stay the whole time, but its good to know when otherwise I'd be all alone I have a place to stay. I fgel this was a pretty productive trip! I learned a lot about myself and others. I had a prior post on here that ... read more

Dear friends and family, So I have gone ahead and dated this entry from the 15th of June. I must confess, however, that it is actually the 29th of June while i write this. This entry is to give you some input on my trip to Agnes Waters and the town of 1770. I was there about a week and a half ago and had an abosulutely amazing time. It was the first place I had been to on my trip by myself that I felt truely comfortable and free. The hostel I stayed at was called Cool Banana's, hence the title of this entry. The owner and the people who stayed there were amazing and kind. The place had a very relaxed and comfortable feeling to it. I had not planned on even visiting this ... read more

I cant believe we have 2 days left in Australia, it's all going so fast now! Well, since I last wrote we got back in contact with Auntie Pat and Roy and have been staying with them in Pat's brothers house on the Gold Coast while he is away over in Spain. Its really worked out well because his house is a 5 min walk from the beach and is only a short drive to the tourist spots like Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay etc. Pat and Roy have been so good to us, we arent paying any board and they help buy most of our food so we really are being spoilt!! A backpackers dream! We spent about 2 weeks on the Gold Coast. It had changed a bit from when I was there last time, ... read more

G'day. Well it couldn't last and for the last few days the weather has taken a bit of a turn for the worse. A few showers mixed with a bit of a cold wind. Nothing to really stop us enjoying ourselves (apart from abstinence from the pool and the sea.) Abstinence: now there's astrange word to find in our travel diary! Our days and weeks seem to be following a similar trend. Some sight-seeing, discovering the local eating and drinking places, using said places (sometimes to excess!!) and going for long walks. The highlight so far of our time here on the Sunshine Coast has to be Linda's birthday on Sunday. We hadn't arranged anything as we are having a barbie net weekend and we were unsure about the weather. As it turned out the weather ... read more

Rule #1 of the hitch hiker Ethos is never turn down a ride. Now Beetle scared the hell out of me, and the two drunks in the El Camino might have led to my end, but when the 70's brown station wagon pulled up beside me somewhere between Noosa and Harvey Bay and I took one look at the strange man inside, an uneasy feeling overcame me. I tossed aside the pile of Mcdonalds wrappers sitting on the passenger side seat, and introduced myself to Dan. He might have at least attempted small talk prior to asking me if I'd found God; However, the soap box preacher began his speech about fire, brimstone and the book of Revelation immediately after I heard the sound of my seat belt click. I went into diplomatic mode, lied through ... read more

I’ve been in Australia for almost four months now so it’s about time I got round to writing a blog about it! I spent my last night in Thailand in a pretty up market guesthouse just off Ko San Road. I decided to treat myself as it was my last night in Asia and I was feeling pretty sorry for myself .I had a chest infection that I’d convinced myself was the beginnings of bird flu - which given the amount of poultry I had seen/stepped over/slept beside/sat next to on buses in Laos wouldn’t have surprised me. So anyway, I confused the Thai’s as much as I had the Cambodians by ordering glass after glass of hot lemon juice and honey and slept an obscene amount before making a few last minute purchases and heading ... read more

Sat. 10 June. World Cup looms. Monday night Australia v. Japan. Warm rainy day. Spruiked early (before rain) with strikiing result. No newspaper article. Next week? Stamped stickers at surf club. Watched young in small boats prepare and race. Breeze came in. Steady rain. Lunch read. Hot shower marina. Then stillness; it stopped. Kookaburras fluffed like doonas, their wet weather wardrobe. Watching them watch for food moving about. Nine kookaburras perched in the rain. Sunday 11. Early spruik in Yeppoon then the long drive but very pleasant to Mackay. Rolling country cane fields sprinkled with chains of mountain ridges. Gum trees aplenty. Hunting birds. Then coastal views of many islands. In Mackay vast expanses of sand at low tide. The long pier and ships at anchor. Ground feeding lorikeets with epaulets... read more

Hello everyone!! How are you all doing? Everything here is good. Had a much better week this week you'll all be glad to know and an even better weekend, so hurrah!! The week started slowly as Monday and Tuesday (6th and 5th) I didn't do anything, oh my washing but that doesn't count. I was feeling really miserable at the beginning of the week. My tonsils were getting worse and was proper mopey! Hurrah for Ketrina though (the Notts girl from work!) she invited me for tea and to stay at her house on Wednesday. I ate loads of avocado though and was a bit poorly, oops! Apart from that it was a really lovely evening. We had lots of wine, saw the possums that live in the tree thing at the back of their house, ... read more
