Okay, so I did the surf lessons the next day, and they were so much fun. Me, and my swedish friend, Johanna were amazed at how well we were doing. We stood up plenty a times, and I got my French Canadian friend, Julien to snap pictured of me while doing it. Our lessons lasted 2 and a half hours! The weather turned out to be a tad rainy afterwards, so I decided to cancel the flying plans. My birthday was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a funner day! Matt, my friend from Winnipeg, was giving me digeradoo lessons, when 3 of my british friends surprised me with 2 Tim-Tams, along with 19 tea light candles! It was so nice! I was so sad to leave the next day. It was hard too, because me ... read more

Hi everyone. Just a short update on our latest adventures, hopefully with some photos! As many of you will be aware since the start of our travels it has been Linda's big dream to celebrate her big FIVE O with a barbie on the beach. Well, albeit it a week late, her wish eventually came true. In every coast side town we have been in the council provides barbecue areas complete with electric or gas barbecues for the use of the general public - brilliant facility. As luck would have it there is one such area just a 100 metres or so from our apartment. We had invited Linda's old friends Cathy and Bruce from Brisbane as well as a couple of couples that we had met through them. We had also invited our new friends ... read more

Saa nu ... read more

Waking up early to a grey sky (maybe it will clear up today) but very little wind was a blessing. Today we begin our long journey (trust me - we won't get in until about midnight on Thursday night) with the children. Our travels begin with a Skytrans plane. Little, reliable and swift, these white planes with red stipes fly regularly the Cairns to Cooktown route as well as to most other points on the Cape. From Cooktown airport to the Cairns General Aviation terminal that Skytrans call home is just the first leg of our journey. The airport in Cooktown must be one of the loveliest though with the hanging palms and the truly tropical feel. I am still waiting to see what transportation Mark has organised to the airport. We could go with the ... read more

I can immediately smell and almost taste the salty sea air as soon as we arrived at the beach of Redcliffe. It was a nice “not so” sunny day as the sun hides behind the clouds. The blue sky is still visible amid the clouds. The drive along the beach is really pleasant. The beach is lined with majestic pine trees, parks, playgrounds and BBQ areas. The atmosphere is very laid back. There are a group of people flying kites, some playing ball games and others simply taking a stroll along the beach. Little Ryan indiscriminately collects any seashells he sees. After awhile, he started picking up only the nice and unique ones. It’s amazing how a two year old easily learns. There’s huge orange X mark at the middle of the beach and wondered what ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Atherton Tablelands June 21st 2006

Another early start beckoned (this not having any work to go to isn’t all its cracked be) and we headed out of Cairns up into the mountains. The road climbs up into the rainforest mountains past Kundra, winding and turning as it goes. Soon we had the vista of the table mountains ahead of us and miles of gorgeous countryside to enjoy. Our first stop was the town of Atherton itself. It was still early so we stopped at a nice little coffee shop for a drink and soak up the atmosphere. We then moved on to discover the tablelands. The views across the countryside are breath-taking and considering Australia doesn’t have any really big mountains they do have some amazing country and we stopped for lunch at one of the many lookouts. After lunch we ... read more

Stuck in Port 23/05/06 - 03/06/06 We decide to spend a day in Port Macquarie so we can visit the koala hospital, it's probably the only way we will get to see any of them! Spend a pleasant couple of hours ooohing and aaahing at the patients, they are incredibly cute although we are told they have a nasty bite and very strong claws; we are happy to keep our distance and just look. The koala hospital doesn't allow visitors to touch the animals because they need to be kept wild if they are to have any chance of survival when they have recovered and are released into the wild. The next day we arrange a visit to the doctor as I have lumpy armpits AGAIN and Vernon is also suffering, but in his case cycling ... read more

To all subscribers and viewers, This trip was quite interesting. Fraser Island for those of you who don't know is the worlds largest sand island. That means that the entire thing is made of sand. Quite spectacular once you see that there is a rainforest growing right out of the sand and that the sand dunes are enourmous. The highlights of the island are that it has some of the most amazing lakes in the world. These lakes have white beaches and crystal clear waters. The camping trip I went on to Fraser consisted of myself, 8 girls, a four wheel drive vehicle, camping gear, food to cook and our passion for adventure. At least I brought along my passion for adventure. I can't say the same for all the girls at my camp. We had ... read more
