The beach
Hi everyone. Just a short update on our latest adventures, hopefully with some photos! As many of you will be aware since the start of our travels it has been Linda's big dream to celebrate her big FIVE O with a barbie on the beach. Well, albeit it a week late, her wish eventually came true. In every coast side town we have been in the council provides barbecue areas complete with electric or gas barbecues for the use of the general public - brilliant facility. As luck would have it there is one such area just a 100 metres or so from our apartment. We had invited Linda's old friends Cathy and Bruce from Brisbane as well as a couple of couples that we had met through them. We had also invited our new friends that we had met last weekend.

A joyeous time was had by all. The weather was warm if a bit overcast and windy. The alcohol was flowing. As per Aussie tradition the guys prepared the food. The girls generally chatted and drank! Not that the guys held back on that score. The food was great, the drink was, well, drinkable really, the company fantastic

The chops are this big
and the setting just out of this world. Sorry that you couldn't make it! The party continued back at our apartment into the wee small hours of the morning.

I would like to thank everyone who sent me cards and gifts which made my birthday even more special. Family and friends alike including one or two people I haven't met yet, but I am sure this will be rectifed when we get back to the UK.

Monday saw us hiring a car and travelling all along the Sunshine Coast and into the hinterland. We took in some wonderful beaches and travelled on some real dirt track roads, the views at the end of which were well worth it. On Tuesday we headed north to Noosa which was one of our possible stop offs at one stage of our holiday. Although we had been told it was a bit 'pretentious' it seemed OK to us with one of the best beaches we have come across. On Wednesday we were visited by Linda's cousin Marjory and her friend Joan. A nice quiet day which included lunch at the local RSL Club* (You remember, the up market ex Servicemen's Clubs that

Ken has been having some late nights and early mornings keeping up with the World Cup and so far has not been too impressed with England. He is tipping Argentina or Spain to win!

* As well as RSL clubs the sunshine coast is saturated with Surf Clubs which generally are just as well appointed as the RSLs. One of their biggest plus points is that they have Courtesy busses which will pick you up from your apartment and transport you back when you have finished your meal or your drinking session - Absolutely Bloody Marvellous. Perhaps some of our Bicester subscribers may wish to put a suggestion to Dave in the Six Bells!!!

This is our last weekend here in Maroochydore and it is now only two weeks until we fly to New Zealand.

Take care,

Ken and Linda
