We have to keep moving. Our aim is to make it to the North Island of New Zealand. We left Christchurch early in the morning to drive to Picton - a 5 hours drive where the ferry terminal is. But we took our time and made it a day trip to a couple of pit stops along the way. Our first pit stop is Hanmer Springs. The drive there was really pleasant and scenic. Lots of greenery and rolling hills as usual. Hanmer Springs is a small charming alpine village well known for hot springs. They say a nice dip in the Geothermal Pool and Spa is a must. The healing properties of mineral and geothermal pools did wonders for my bruises. The boys had fun at the water slides while I chillax in 39*C hot ... read more

After shedding buckets of tears, I can’t let myself drown in melancholy (it's against my constitution). Like a wounded soldier, I soldiered on …Instead of catching the flight back to Australia, we decided to stay. I thought I can recuperate in NZ whilst still on holiday. With medication, the aches and pain from the accident are manageable. I feel 90% fine, well enough to do a little bit of sightseeing and exploring. I can even force a smile and think that it's all good. New Zealand has promoted itself as the adventure capital of the world. I was really looking forward to hiking in the glaciers. But with my condition, glacier hikes, shotover jets and bungy jumping are off the menu (ok, definitely not the bungy … maybe if I’m crazy or suicidal and wants to ... read more

When you feel like you're flying high and appear to be suffering from excessive happiness, forces of nature seem to have a way of intervening to get you grounded. You get snowed-in, bogged and hit by a freakin' bus, that's what happens. In our case anyway... My dream of a good holiday has materialized. I was floating in high spirits, intoxicated with the sheer beauty of the new country I was in. It was the start of spring. Nature is regenerating - the trees have just sprouted new shoots and grass is greener than ever. We are on the road to Milford Sound, one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand and on earth. I’ve read and been told that the stretch from the town of Te Anau to Milford is the most scenic road ... read more

I am just starting to get used to my new wonderful alpine environment and it’s already time to leave. But with very tight schedule and pre-booked accommodation, it’s time to leave for Queenstown. I'll surely miss everything about the village - the snowy mountains, forest, friendly people and general ambience in the alpine village. Eventhough I’m not yet ready to leave Mt. Cook, there's something to be excited about going to Queenstown. I’ve heard a lot of nice things about Queenstown from friends and friend’s friends. A friend of mine calls it “A Slice of Heaven”, the others "The most beautiful town" they've been. Built on the shore of Wakatipu lake surrounded by the Southern alps, Queenstown is no doubt one of the most beautiful town on earth. It started out as a farming land and ... read more

A place like New Zealand is best described in poetry. Anywhere you turn is simply poetic. It’s wonderful scenery is awe-inspiring, uplifting and stunningly breathtaking. Although I can’t write a poem to save my life, it’s worth a damn try. I planned this trip 6 months ahead, I can’t belief it now eventuates, I searched the internet for pictures and info, And now the actual trip feels like a déjà vu. Green rolling hills I think I’ve seen before, But the beauty of it runs kilometers and more, Mountains and valleys, blue lakes and snow, When all put together, It’s magic, that I know for sure. We arrived in this land in the start of Spring Oh how amazing when birds start to sing, Trees awaken with new shoots and buds, In green grass I tread, ... read more

Ahhhh . There’s nothing like ------ ! Australia’s new slogan to promote its tourism industry. A step up to the controversial "Where the Bloody Hell Are you" I reckon. It is hard to resist the call of Byron Bay when you hear a lot of people rave about the place. Byron Bay has been at the back of my mind for a while now. I always wondered, "what’s so special about this place ?" Perhaps it’s the white sandy beaches on the foot of the lush green hinterland, the rugged cliffs and green rolling hills; or perhaps the humpback whales and dolphins frolicking in the bay. But quite frankly, they say it’s the party scenes and easy access to “happy high herbs” and weeds that draw tourists and backpackers in this little coastal town. I’d like ... read more

One thing Pope John Paul II, the monarchies, presidents, prime ministers, Pavarotti and Phil Collins have in common, they all visited the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, cuddled a koala and hand-fed a kangaroo. I would add it to 1001 must-do list before one kicks the bucket. But what struck me on our visit to the animal sanctuary are not the cuddly koalas and boxing kangaroos. What won my heart is one crazy goat who wants to chew my shirt and get hold of my camera. He’s just so damn adorable I want to take him home. I am still laughing from the inside every time I think about it. We used to raise pigs and chickens when I was just a kid. Unfortunately, they end up on a dinner plate on St. Paul’s feast day. Knowing ... read more

I can spend my last remaining breath watching the sun’s dying blaze change colour every minute on Cable beach, frolic with the wild dolphins in Monkey Mia, swim amongst the fishes and turtles of Coral Bay in its crystal clear turquoise waters and get lost in an alien like environ of Numbumg National Park amongst the pinnacles. From the wildflower country of Pilbara, to the bays and city of Perth, one can have a sensory overload with such diverse natural wonders. The vibrant colours, stunning scenery, coloured dirt roads, beautiful sunset, white sandy beaches, turquoise water, breathtaking coastal cliffs, red river gorges, marine and native wildlife attract people from all walks of life to western Australia. There are loads of fun activities to do. I got hooked on quad-biking. It is a must-do when in Coral ... read more
