Re-visiting Hervey Bay is more of a trip to memory lane for us. Ahhhhhh, Nostalgia is a bliss ! Standing in front of our very first humble abode once again flashed a flood of cherished memories making us feel all warm and fuzzy. I’m ecstatic that the apartment where Jamie and I first lived in when we both left home is still left standing amidst of progress and new development creeping up in the town of Hervey Bay. I imagined that it might have already been demolished to make way for skyscrapers and world class resorts to accommodate the influx of tourists and wealthy retirees. I am very pleased to see that the town council has prevented the establishments of any monolithic forms of accommodations in the area. I am also happy to see more trees, ... read more

To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity on the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour --- William Blake. The beaty of nature never cease to amaze me. I am utmost calm when I’m surrounded by trees and water. It’s always nice to a take break from city living now and then and smell the flowers. Since the start of Spring, we’ve been doing a lot of day trips and spending weekends out of town as much as we can. It’s nice to get out of winter hibernation and be active again. Buderim Rainforest NP With no clouds in sight, the sun beats down harshly. Anyone who dares to hit the beach without sunscreen on will get their skin cooked within 10 minutes of ... read more

Summer is Over

1st of March - Summer in Ozland is now officially over. The chilling wind of Autumn has arrived and the warm waters of Queensland are now freezing cold. My skin immediately broke out in goosebumps as I dipped my toes into the freezing water. I will normally run back to the shore and wrap myself up with a towel...but not this time. I’ve got my new swimming togs on and adamant to catch whatever last remaining summer waves out there. Luckily, it's easy to get acclimatized to the cold weather. I will miss going to the beach every weekend. I will miss the calm waves bobbing me like a weightless cork. And I will also surely miss battling with the crashing waves as the ocean casts its wrath upon the beachlovers frolicking in its domain. My ... read more

I was already huffing and puffing after 100 steps when there are 800 more steps to traverse in the Jenolan cave. Now that winter is over, it’s time to get fit and hit the gym. It’s embarrassing when my 3 year old toddler is fitter than I am. He is the youngest and also probably the fittest of at least half the people in our tour group. There are 10 magnificent cave tours. We went on the Lucas Cave Tour as it has the largest and highest chamber (The Cathedral) and home to the most photographed “Broken Column” at Jenolan. The cave is a maze of ancient limestone caverns full of amazing stalactites and stalagmites and sparkling mineral deposits. With a push of a button, our tourguide highlights the wonderful features with spectacular lighting and sounds. ... read more

After 12 hours of driving from Queensland with few stopovers along the east coast of NSW for lunch and coffee break, we finally crossed the famous “Sydney Harbour Bridge”…. something we would have missed if we caught the plane to Sydney. It has been 13 years since the last time we visited Sydney. A lot of things have changed since then. We traversed back to the places we’ve been and everything looked different. The smell of air, the feel and look of the surroundings all seemed different. I clearly remember being sick the whole time I was in Sydney. It was the winter of 1994 . The cold made me hibernate in the comfort of our hotel room rather than enjoy Sydney's wonderful sights. Spring of 2007, we’re back in Sydney. This time, I must admit ... read more

I had my first taste of Singaporean Sling onboard a flight to Singapore. It only took a couple of sips of such strong cocktail to hit me. Honestly, I am not a drinker, so why the heck I ordered it instead of the usual fruit juice and diet coke ???....it beats me….I’ve read it on the internet that it’s a must-try drink…I guess I’m just trying to be more adventurous and open to new things. Singapore is a nice small developed country. It is very clean, organized and well maintained. Singapore’s geographical location made it a great transportation hub for international trade. The Singapore’s Changi Airport is one of the best airports in the world. It has many international links serving 180 countries. It established itself as a major world-class aviation hub in Asia Pacific region. ... read more

Just got back from a week Easter Break in the Outback and have new stories to tell. We didn’t get bogged this time on the way to Wyandra. We made it there safe and sound in just over 10hours drive from Brisbane. We stayed at the century old cottage across the Wyandra pub. We always enjoyed having breakfast, lunch and dinner at the veranda and watch the sun go down late in the afternoon as the sky turns into different shade of blue, orange, red and purple. Wyandra is a very small sleepy town. All you can see are red earth, native wildlife, the town pub and few rustic houses. Nonetheless, it’s a nice countryside retreat to unwind and escape life in the city. Visit to McDonald’s Farm - We’ve been once again invited to the ... read more

Philippines, in the tiny island of Lubang, North West of Mindoro Island is where I was born. It wasn’t until recently I had the chance to explore and really appreciate the beauty of the place of my heritage. Although Australia is now my adopted homeland where I spent part of my teenage years and entire adult life, Philippines will always have a special place in my heart. Philippines is a Jewel in the Rough. -- "The Pearl of the Orient". One must weave through the hustle and bustle of city of Manila to get to the beautiful remote places of the country. It’s the remote islands of the Philippines such as Palawan and Boracay that attract people from different walks of life. I am sure there are a lot more "off the beaten track" nice places ... read more

Of all the places I’ve seen, Palawan won my heart. The pristine beaches, impressive landscapes and diverse marine life never cease to amaze me. I was astonished how clean and unspoiled are the surroundings. The atmosphere is very laid back and somewhat serene. It is the ultimate eco-tourist’s paradise. Palawan is home to a number of indigenous groups with a strong sense of community. The locals are quite happy living a simple life. They are good-natured, very friendly, hospitable and dedicated in protecting and conserving the environment. If only mainstream filipinos follow the lead of the people of Palawan when it comes to conserving and protecting mother-nature, then eco-tourism has a great potental to flourish in the Philippines. Finding Nemo We landed in Puerto Princesa (capital city of Palawan) after an hour flight from Manila. We ... read more

Lined with palm trees, white powdery sandy beach with crystal clear blue/green water is a must visit place in the Philippines. They say you really haven’t seen Philippines if you haven’t set foot on the beach of Boracay and seen the spectacular sunset. Hundreds of tourists and locals all flock to the beach as the night falls to witness the sun’s dying blaze. Boracay is a tourist mecca. There’s so many delightful things for people to do… from island hopping, exploring caves, bar-hopping, shopping and water activities such as jet-skiing, wind-surfing & snorkelling to name a few. We booked a holiday package to Boracay through Philippine Airline which includes return flights, accommodation and daily breakfast at the Boracay Tropics Resort and coach/ferry transfers. We arrived in Kalib... read more
