We finally arrived in Melbourne on the 5th day of our road trip. Driving via the inner city to North Melbourne was a nightmare, especially when your map is few streets short. I lost count on the number of times we’ve been beeped, drove in circles and almost crash into other cars. The traffic lanes are very confusing. Cars can travel alongside the trams. And if you drive anywhere near the tram tracks, forget about making a right-turn 'coz you're in the wrong lane mate ! It was such a relief when we finally arrived to our destination. We managed to [View Full Entry]

Day 4 of our trip was exploring Lake Eildon and the high country. Lake Eildon is so picturesque. We went up to the spillway lookout for a birds-eye view of the lake and its surrounds. Instead of going fishing at the lake, we went to a trout farm . It only cost a couple of bucks to hire a fishing rod and 4 bucks for baits. However, we have to pay per kilo for every catch. I gave Ryan my fishing rod and taught him how to fish. I guess I wasn't a very good teacher since the only thing he [View Full Entry]

Day 1-3: I'd say a great holiday wouldn’t be as great without the occasional mishaps and disasters. Our luggage got stolen on day 1 of our road trip to Melbourne and it still turned out to be the best trip ever. We left at 6am in the morning trying to make it to Newcastle before dark. We’ve experienced 4 seasons within 11 and a half hours of our trip to Newcastle. The nice and cool sunny day turned into a scorching weather as we reached New South Wales. We then drove into a wind storm and torrential rain just past Port [View Full Entry]

It’s final ! … We’re going on a road trip, travelling over 5000km to Melbourne from Brisbane return. We’ve already got our itinerary mapped out. I already booked our accommodation at Newcastle(NSW), Mansfield(VIC), Melbourne CBD, Dandenong and Port Campbell. If we still have ample time and energy, we might also stop over in Sydney and Port Macquirie on the way back. My heart was really set on a skiing trip to Mt. Buller. But I’m afraid we’ve already missed the skiing season. We are already well into spring and there’s only few patches of softening s [View Full Entry]

Route to "The Great Ocean Road"

Almost every month, we celebrate a birthday in the family. This month, it’s Reid’s 9th birthday. The kids enjoyed playing cricket and football in the backyard while the adults feast on spring-rolls, sushi, satays and JFC (Jon’s Fried Chicken) and converse about anything under the sun. Men usually talks about work, sports, movies, TV shows and whatnots with a beer on one hand while their female counterparts talk about babies. This year, there are three newborns in the family. It’s like babies galore ! Yet…the conversation revolved around having more babies ?!#? [View Full Entry]

I can immediately smell and almost taste the salty sea air as soon as we arrived at the beach of Redcliffe. It was a nice “not so” sunny day as the sun hides behind the clouds. The blue sky was still visible amid the clouds. The drive along the beach was really pleasant. The beach is lined with majestic pine trees, parks, playgrounds and BBQ areas. The atmosphere is very laid back. There were a group of people flying kites, some playing ball games and others simply taking a stroll along the beach. Little Ryan indiscriminately collects any seashells he sees. [View Full Entry]

Imagine a 69 year old woman traveling around Australia on a bicycle. Amazing huh ? I was relaxing on a hammock when an old lady on a push bike asked me for direction. She’s been push biking all day from Cunnamulla to Wyandra, which only takes an hour and a half drive by car. She wanted to camp in Wyandra for the night then head to Charleville in the morning. I showed her the free camp site and gave her a couple of soda water to drink. Her name is Margaret. She is from Germany. She started push biking from [View Full Entry]

Most people spend Easter break at the beach but we decided to head off the beaten track of the Australian Outback….destination - WYANDRA. Wyandra is a very small remote town South West of Queensland. It is 10 hours drive to get there so we left really early in the morning. We used to live in Wyandra (for just over a year) and finished grade 12 (senior HS) in Charleville. We then moved to Brisbane after graduation to start University studies. As we reached Miles, a town halfway Wyandra, I relieved Jamie from driving and took over the wheel. There are [View Full Entry]
