Apart from the cold in sydney, I felt i had stood still too long and when a chance to get back on the road again came, I took it! Am travelling now with Roopa (a girl I met in Tasmania) and Eun Hye (also known as Eva, a flatmate of Roopa's in Sydney) from Cairns down the east coast. However no trip from Cairns is complete without a little trip up north to visit Cape Tribulation- we have booked an open ticket travel deal with Peter Pan adventure travel and took a 3 day, 2 night tour up there. This roughly translates into a one day tour over 3 days which gives you2days to do with as you please up in Cape Trib! Our trip happened to fall over the inaugural England world cup game and ... read more

OZ vs ENGLAND 37: 3 We've been in Sydney since Friday. Have met up with Chloe and Lily. The rugby was awesome! ( admittedly we lost 37-3) But there was live music before and afterward which was cool. We all bought white tops. Did St George's flags on front with red duck tape. Facepainted flags and made a massive banner saying "Ollie will you marry me." I didn't know who Ollie was, but Claire assured me he was quite good looking. Was a really good atmosphere and the stadium was packed. One of the Ozzie chants is "what do you wanna be? .... a wallabie!" But instead we replied "....a pommy!" Which seemed to take them all by surprise. Lots of harmless heckling ( think we would of been mugged had it been a football match). ... read more

As our boat ‘set sail’ at 2pm we had the whole morning to watch the weather and pray for it to improve. After a quick lunch at Airlie Beach we walked along the coastal path to the marina, where all the many Whitsunday sailing trips depart, to join our chosen boat, Dreamcatcher. Whilst we were waiting we saw lots of other people - presumably all waiting for their boats, and you can’t help wondering who will be your shipmates for the next two days. One thing everyone was doing was buying alcohol as they don’t sell it on board - it is all BYO. The catch is that you can’t bring any glass on board due to safety issues. With this in mind Lins and I went to the bottle shop and bought a six pack ... read more

Hello again.......We are extremely sorry that it has been absolutely ages since blogging, you all must be getting fed up with waiting!!! The time over the past couple of months has gone at a lightening speed so we have fell well behind, but do not despair we will continue with our blogging and will be right upto date ASAP. When we last left you we were on our way to Hervey Bay. Well, after a 5 hour coach trip (with an idiot girl sitting behind us singing the 'La la la Long' song - our worst nightmare come true - yeah thanks to Inner Circle & 'Sweat'!!!) we arrived at 9pm. We were picked up by our hostel minibus. As we had an early start in the morning we sorted our bags out and got an ... read more

Well, I'm back. And I had the best time EVER on this sailing trip! There were 18 of us on this small little sail boat, but it was the best group to be with, because we needed to stay sane with the problem of bed bugs and cokroaches crawling around in our beds, and I'm no where near kidding. We were itchy more often than not. There was a group of four Canadian guys on the boat who were just hilarious. The Friday night was one of their birthdays, so we had a huge toga party; using our bed sheets as togas and playing cards. Some other random sailors robed in togas jumped aboard as well, so our boat was just one big party! The first night (Thursday), we got a snack of potato wedges and ... read more

Having an aussie pass (Greyhound Bus Pass) means that I can book bus trips when I want and to where I want within a restricted time period. Beyond that, the bus pass is good to get me from Cairns up in Northeast Oz down to Sydney. So from Cairns my first stop was Airlie Beach where I had a sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands booked. The bus ride from Cairns was about 12 hours, so to save money I booked the overnight bus leaving Cairns at 9pm and arriving in the morning. This is always the best because you save on accomodation for a night. Anyhow, I arrived at Beaches Hostel and was so thrilled to be there becuase the first hostel I stayed at in Cairns was a dump. Beaches felt like a 5 ... read more

Hi all! Just got back from the Whitsundays, an amazing group of islands off Australia's east coast. We boarded the Apollo, which is a Maxi boat, and it's the only place in the world you can actually sail on racing yachts. This time the group was loads better and we had a great time, even though the weather wasn't great. Yes it does get cloudy here, and we've heard the U.K. is having glorious weather! The boat was great, we got to snorkel a few times, and though the coral wasn't quite as colourful as Fiji, there was loads of variety, and our underwater camera actually worked this time! We also visited Whitehaven Beach, which was stunning even though it was cloudy. It is apparently the 2nd best (or 2nd whitest?) beach in the world. Like ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Port Douglas June 11th 2006

So, Port Douglas has been treating us well, despite the less than perfect weather conditions. We spent our first day here getting to know the hotel itself and town and were happy to just relax and stay still for a few days. The next day, Thursday, we were picked up at 8:00 am by Tony's Tours in a white SUV for a day of fun in the rainforest. We were only 2 of 6 people in the car, plus Tony our guide, and it was a very interesting and informative day. Our first stop was at the Mossman Gorge, where we walked a bit through the rainforest to the Mossman River and saw a beautiful body of water, with lots of rocks and waterfalls. There were tons of bats too that caught our attention. Back in ... read more
