Russell- So it was back on the road again. Hervey Bay to Airlie Beach is just too far to do in one day so we looked for a half way stop over. We did think we might go to the beach town of Yeppon near Rockhampton but in the end we decided we may as well stay in Rockie itself and get back on the road in the morning that much quicker. After driving all day Rockhampton was a pleasing sight. For those who don’t know (and lets face it until we went there that included us) Rockhampton, or Rockie as it is affectionately known, is the beef capital of Australia. And boy do they like to let you know. Statues of bulls adorn nearly every street corner and every business is named after some kind ... read more

We've taken the car back to Sydney and the guys at CITY CAR MART took it back at the agreed price on the buy back deal. Great service from these guys, we bought an old (common in Oz, cars don't rust here!!!) car, but a good runner, didn't use any oil or water during the 12,000 k of touring Australia. We will thoroughly recommend these guys to anyone considering travelling through Australia and thinking of purchasing a car, van or 4 wheel-drive. It was a very quick trip to Sydney; we hadn’t left ourselves enough time!!! We drove 840k on Tuesday, leaving only 120k to drive next morning which meant we were late looking for somewhere to kip in Tues night. We tried the holiday park at Morriset, but this was full as was the local ... read more

Caute, no nebolo to safari, len taka guided tour a vozili nas hore dole po takom pieskovom ostrove plnom dingov (to su tie zlte psy) Trochu na skodu veci bolo, ze sme z nich nevideli ani jedneho :), ale zato sme videli super hrib, ktory v noci svieti velmi pekne na zltozeleno.

Hello everyone. We have a little more time today to update the diary more fully. Let's start with our last day in Airlie Beach. Despite having to vacate our apartment by 10am our hosts kindly let us park our luggage until our link bus arrived at 6pm. What to do for 8 hours? mmmm. Well we had made ourselves a picnic and decided to go for a long stroll along the boardwalks and seashore. We got so very, very hot we decided to stop at a nice beachside bar for a midday drink. SILLY. We only got embroiled with a group of people who had taken the afternoon off to celebrate one of their party's birthday. A great bunch of people who very nearly persuaded us to stay and go on to the 'official' party later ... read more

We got into Rainbow beach and we hit a wall of rain.. this is about the first time i have seen rain since i left home, kinda weird. We ended up booking a 3 day self drive 4X4 trip to fraser island at the hostel we were staying at. They put you into groups of around 11 people and give you a car and camping gear and off you go... kinda crazy! Our group was really really cool a few english girls some canadians and some italians. the other group we went with that were in the other car aside from 4 of them were not so cool :SThe island was beautiful... loads of dingos and amazing fress water lakes. You couldnt swim in the ocean because it was shark breading ground.. they showed us this ... read more

8th june We were travelling up the coast by Greyhound bus- a hop on hop off type thing. Spent the day travelling to Agnes Water which was close to a place called Seventeen Seventy we wanted to visit. Arrived that eve with no hostel they were all booked up!! Managed to get a motel for the 4 of us which turned out to be better value anyway. 9th june We did the Scoooter Roo Tour! A tour around the area on scooters!!! Was great fun- about 30 of us on scooters!!! A girl fell off and badly grazed her face- silly girl had never been on one before and didnt accept the offer of how to drive it!!!! Drove to a pub to collect wedges where we sat by the beach and watched the sunset which ... read more

I guess it was naive of me to think that coming to australia meant warm nice whether. I mean all I have ever seen of australia is bronzed people, hot and dry outback, and amazing sunny beaches. Well Sydney was cold and rainy. Apparently its winter here. The southern hemisphere is all skrewed up, toilets flushing the wrong way round and all. So as soon as my medical trip was over with in Sydney I decided to catch a plane north to Cairns where I had heard it was hot. So I flew the Australia equivalent of Southwest Airlines except that Jetstar (name of airline) made even more attempts to cut cost. This plane was stripped to the bone. We boarded via the tarmack, up some stairs and through the back of the plane. There were ... read more

Brisbane was completely different then i thought it would be. Its a big city... but nothing really appealed to me. We were only there for a day and a half so i couldnt really give it a fair chance but nothing stuck out to me. They had a lagoon there like many of the major citys not on beaches along the east coast. We went to markets and just walked around it was kinda nice. We were staying in what would have been a nice hostel if we werent in a room with 8 people that were actually living in the hostel. the room was an absolute mess, multi share, so boys tend to be messy too... it just wasnt the nicest of rooms ever. and i was sick and trying to get to sleep and ... read more
