I am a teacher by trade and traveler by heart. Luckily my trade allows me to follow my heart :) Currently using my two month break to travel Europe and see the sites I missed on my last two trips. I write them quickly and on my ipad (usually) so please forgive the horrible writing mistakes. I will fix them at home when I don't have to pay for internet and have less interesting things to do :)

Second tour! I ws really excited about this one because two of the girls from my first trip were going to e on it too, and we were alredy friends! Our tour guide was Carla and our driver was Nate. The drive was nice enough, but first guide and driver were awesoe and too hard to beat. By the end, I really didnt care for Carla at all. However, like two weeks later, I randomly ran into her Munich, even though i hadnt seen her since Prague! Small world, isn't it! Our first night was in a Croatian city called pag. It is mostly famous for all the salt it produces, and the specula way it cures it's ham. The Adriatic sea is sooo salty (I noticednit sheen diving, but I thought I had just forgotten ... read more

Wow, i am so far behind! I'm in Italy now writing about Croatia! That was like 6 countries ago! The first major place we went to was Dubrovnik. I was really excited about it because it us we here they filmed one of my favorite shows (game of thrones). It has really tall walls that are just beautiful. We didn't get as much time theree as I would have liked, but theere was enough time to see a few things and walk most of the walls. Tere was a large fountain that you could drink from and it was pretty cold! Theere is also a small ledge that if a single man can hop onto it and stay up there, he will find himself a wife in Dubrovnik, lol. We only had one single guy on ... read more

Dax warned us. Efore going into Albania what crazy things we would see.... Well, here's what I saw! Creepy dolls hanging from half finished buildings to keep away evil spirits. Some were hand made, but a few were stuffed animals that seemed to be hanging because of some nefarious crime. I even saw a donkey kong doll lol So many donkeys! Donkeys walking alone, donkeys walking alone with stuff on their backs, donkeys tied up, donkeys in road, donkeys being ridden,... Donkeys!! Woman walking with a scythe with a 2.5 foot long blade! Goat crossings and little boys driving them Cars on the second floor of unfinished buildings with no explicable way for them to have gotten ho there Slaughtered goat on the side of the highway Cow tied up outside of a butcher shop Uncountable ... read more

Dax made the border crossing between turkey and Greece seem really intense! He had told us the history between the two countries and they don't really like each other. It actually wasn't bad at all. What was funny was the differences between the two sides. A turksih soldier actually saluted us, and theybwere all at attention as we drve by. The grreeks were just kinda lounging around, talking and smoking. There were also a lot of garbage cans spaced about 7 feet apart which was a little odd. Even more odd was all the trash that was *next* to the cans! Our lunch stop was in a cute little town called Kavala. I knew there ws going to be a roman aqueduct there, but I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't know that it would look the ... read more

Please note, this is slightly out of order. This came after Athens. Our tour grooup lost 5 members that wwere going on a greek island hopping tour and we picked up 7 more. We left athens and drove through where Sparta used to be to our night stop. We were staying in Parga which is a beautiful coastal town. It has a port, two beaches within walking distance, and a castle. We had made pretty good time so we got there about 330 in the afternoon. Th common consent was to go down to the beautiful beach. I was assigned the room with 3 new people...which made me the only original trip member to be rooming with a new person, and I was with 3! I said something aout it to the guide, and he said ... read more

I happen to find the history really interesting, so if you don't want to read about it, just skip past the bullets :) Greece has over 1300 islands, but only 240 are occupied. Greece was very advanced for it'd tme and invtented democracy, science, math, comedy, tragedy, politics....and....the yoyo It's a country of contrast. They invented all that stuff, yet you can't flush toilet paper, and only ine bathroom so far has had a toilet *seat*, I kid you not. Exciting tme to be here because of the elections. The Greeks got way into debt, and if the country collapsed, the euro would suffer, so the other eu countries didn't want that. They gave Greece 110 billion euros (that was to pay off the interest, not even the principle of the debt) to help them, but ... read more

I picked up my tour in istanbul with bus about tours. For those of you don't know, I would recommend them. They are a smaller company than stat ravel or contiki, but so far just as nice. We have a very large coach, like angreyhound bus. There are 22 of us, so we can all have our own seats so it's nice to stretch out. We also have a very enthusiastic Aussie tour guide named Dax. Turns out I met him years ago in Ireland. Go figure! He's been to 88 countries! But he has also been traveling for 10 years, so that's gotta wear on him. Traveling as in.... Living and working abroad. I told him I collect currencies and he showed me his stash. It was massive filled with many countries' currency! He said ... read more

Before I talk about my time in Istanbul, I'd like to share a list of things I have noticed: Pilots make the same "err" noise when deciding what to say on the intercom Babies laugh the same and for same reasons. They will also chew on phones and grab strangers' pants....namely mine lol People are constantly on phones and iPods. A business man may be concentrating on his blackberry...but sure enough it's angry birds. Turkish people just look like tan Americans. Some are very light skinned! I saw a bunch that looked like celebs and my friends. There was a guy that looked like the balding guy from 30 rock There are still obnoxious teens Men still think they are charming Girls love sparkles and soft fabric Taxis are terrible drivers Police sirens are annoying They ... read more

I began my third euro trip with both hope and trepidation. Hope because my last trip to Europe left me suivh a great goal. When I came over, I was in a slightly bad place. Professionally, I had been declined a job at turner south which is where I thought my dream job must be. Personally, I had a lot of stuff going on as well, and living in Germany was a welcome respite from that. While in germany, I had the chance to work with a young girl that needed help with her English hw. I would say she was the catalyst that lead to my current career. I hadn't really thought about teaching until I worked wi her, saw her lightbulb moments, and her thirst for knowledge. She even helped me with my german! ... read more

Arrived in Ljubljana! Man... this trip is really straining me in every possible way. Financially, emotionally, physically... In all my other travels, nothing big usually goes wrong... on this one, its ALL going wrong! The only consolation is all the cool stuff I'm seeing, on the occassaions that I am actually able to see something! Rome was incredible! There was so much richness and history there, it was almost palpable. You couldn't turn around and not see a beautiful piece of architecture... or a moped scooter thing, lol. I went to the Coloseum, Pantheon, St. Peter's, Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Trevi fountain. Al the usual spots. Sistine was amazing... not at all like I had thought that it was going to be! I had always thought that the painting of God and Adam was really big and ... read more
