I am now in Rothenburg ob der Tauber which (If you Wikipedia it) is a ridiculously cute village! It looks like it is straight out of a Hansel and Gretel storybook! It is located on the Romantic Road in Bavaria, Germaany. I am currently managing a cocktail lounge in the beautiful and historic Goldener Hirsch (Golden Stag) hotel for about 8 months. Maybe longer! We will see!

Arrived in Ljubljana! Man... this trip is really straining me in every possible way. Financially, emotionally, physically... In all my other travels, nothing big usually goes wrong... on this one, its ALL going wrong! The only consolation is all the cool stuff I'm seeing, on the occassaions that I am actually able to see something! Rome was incredible! There was so much richness and history there, it was almost palpable. You couldn't turn around and not see a beautiful piece of architecture... or a moped scooter thing, lol. I went to the Coloseum, Pantheon, St. Peter's, Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Trevi fountain. Al the usual spots. Sistine was amazing... not at all like I had thought that it was going to be! I had always thought that the painting of God and Adam was really big and ... read more

Well, arrived in Rome! But I suppose I should back track a little... I arrived in Switzerland on a train through Zurich and had my passport stamped by some friendly border patrol dudes... that stamp marks the last time I would see my passport. Which is a total bum since I had just gotten my 11th stamp! I was really upset about it, but realized that my stamps were gone, but my experiences at those places were not. I got into Zurich and to my hostel which is when I discovered that my passport was gone. Laaaaaaame. To keep from freaking out, I played solitaire in my room a few times to calm down while singing my NEW fave song ''Ich kenne nichts'' by Xavier Naidoo. It's a GORGEOUS song... I suggest you have a listen.... ... read more

Well my mom and grandmother came to visit me for two weeks! We started off with a week here in Rothenburg where I showed them my new digs. They actually happened to be here during R-burg's annual Mittelalter (Middle Ages) Festival. The whole town warps itself back in time. Everyone dresses up and wanders around doing activities like they would in the middle ages. There's food, drink, games, music, plays and demonstrations throughout the weekend. There is a reinactment óf the Meistertrunk (it's about 2 hours!). If you ever make your way out here I would def recommend going ahead and splurging the extra Euros to get a seat in the first section; it makes it a lot more enjoyable. The Meistertrunk is the name given to the event when a Swedish man by the name ... read more

Well, I owe my good mood and good spirits to Kyle, Jason and Thea :) Thanks guys! Without their messages and support I'd probably still be the lonely sack of American I was the first two weeks I was here. Well, I still don't have any friends, but I'm getting to be ok with that. It's nice to have "me" time and not have to worry about catering to other people all the time. I get up and have brekky, sometimes I walk around the town a little bit or go to lessons, and have lunch.. sometimes I do my own German lessons.... jump on the computer...watch at least an hour of German TV (although I did find a French channel, lol) a day... open the lounge and do it all over again! The hotel owner's ... read more

Just a little play on words there... Bad is in relation to baths over here. If you hear of Bad Hamburg or Bad Kissingen (hate to live there! lol) it is because it is a place that has bath houses and stuff! Interesting, huh? But yesterday it was decided that the hotel needed a deep purge of a lot of the dust that had built up because apparently the maids don't do an excessive amount of work. So Pieter whips out this special vacuums that have special filters and are much better at getting up all the dust. So the plan was we were going to do the first and second floor in the day and be done with it. Little did we know that the dust had built up so bad that we had -quite- ... read more

Well, I've been here about 10 days now. The culture shock here has been different in a few ways from Australia and my Euro trip last year. In Australia, I hadn't expected any so I was sent reeling for a little bit, and throughout my 5 month endeavor there, things would still blow my mind. Example... last week I was there I tried to get some film develop and it was like 20 bucks! Euro trip was different still because even though I was going to all these new cultures, I wasn't really -experiencing- them the way you do if you live in a country. And, even though a lot of my trip I was alone, it didn't really feel that way because I was meeting up with fellow travellers and making new friends. But here ... read more

Well hello! After an extensive gap, I'm back to relate more of my travels! Here's an update! After I finished Uni in Australia, I came back and graduated from my beautiful Maryville College (which I heartily miss!). As a graduation present to myself, I took myself over to Europe for a little over a month! I saw Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. It was wonderful! Top two cities were probably Scotland and Berlin for beauty and history and the good times I had there. After a year of internships and working hard I was offered a job at the beautiful Goldener Hirsch hotel in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in the Tauber Valley of the Castle District of Bavaria in Germany by a friend I met while studying in Australia. ... read more

When I first came to Europe... I took a shower. I felt gross, leave me alone! But anyway, the point of declaring that was that the bathroom I was in was a little weird. The tub was raised up and right in front of the door and very clear. So, it was a little weird taking a shower looking straight at the door, haha. And, instead of the knobs I'm used to, there was this box...thing. With smaller knobs for the temperature and force of the water. I didn't think much of it because it was an old building and I figured that they probably just added it after the building had been built...or whatever. No biggie. Bathrooms in Wales were normalish...In London, that was the first time I stayed at a hostel and that was ... read more

I forgot to say that while at the Medieval center (Tobias says Middleeevil, awwww) the pamphlet said that because fish swam and birds fly....bees were considered birds and ducks were considered fish!! Crazy!! And that while at tobias's gf's house, I've mostly been playing with the dogs because love and scratches are in the same language :) turns out I can drive the Civic, but I know it pains Tobias when I drive it, so instead of being in Denmark for a week.... just 2 or 3 days :( I'm really sad about that, but I can't force him to let me drive around in his car for a week. So that means we'll be back in Luxembourg sooner than we thought...but might save some money so we can spend two nights in Amsterdam!! :) Blargh. ... read more

I want to preface this by saying that.... 3 vehicles I have used during this trip have broken down. Two buses and now Tobias's car. But to where I left off! Tobias and I went to Germany and met up with Nils in Dusseldorf and went to a traditional german...diner...thing... But Nils and his gf got called into work so Tobias and I went ahead to the next stop! Dortmund!! Dortmund is where we met up with Michael, a friend I made at Australian Uni. We had a lot of fun there. I had kebabs for the first time! Shawarma was in it. And also an endless source of frustration with Tobias, because apparently kebap or kebab means lamb... but it had chicken in it! but whatever, it was good. Then Michael, Tobias and I went ... read more
