Got up early and headed to Union Station to catch our hop on, hop off or bus. After about 20mins of walking, realised we’d gone in the opposite direction and then had to walk at least twice the distance to Union Station. Headed to the Smithsonian, but only went into the Air and Space museum. Was unbelievable. But Andrew is still very sceptical about the moon landing. Still pretty amazing. Then headed to Capitol Hill, where we stood on the spot that Barak Obama was inaugurated. Also went into the Washington Supreme Court, Jefferson Building and the Library of Congress. Did a tour inside the Capitol Building. It is amazing, all lime stone and hundreds of stone and bronze statutes of Presidents and other influential Americans. Stood in many famous spots and in saw heaps of ... read more

Today was another day of full travelling. Got to LAX by 8 for a 9am flight. Andrew was very very uptight and nervous about the security checks. It was queue after queue. Pls we had to ay $20 each o tske luggage on the plane. No-one had told us that. By the time we got to our hotel in Washington DC it 7pm. So we lost another day. Went to a “pub” type place fr dinner that the lady at the front desk recommended... and YES the meals are massive. The waiter was laughing at our reactions to it all. Decided to go for s little wander and funnily enough, we stumbled across the White House!! We were so excited. Went past the main entrance and a sea of police drove past and stopped traffic while ... read more

While the globe is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and Sesame Street’s 40th birthday, I will be paying tribute to the millions of men and women who have served/serving in the United States Armed Forces on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009. I shared this summer of how I ended up in America. What’s more interesting is that four of five of my siblings served in the US Armed Forces, 1975 to 1990. I would love to say it was out of our patriotic duty for America welcoming us to this land of opportunity, but it was the means for a college education. I am proud to say “I am living the American Dream” and I have to thank the US Armed Forces for this awesome opportunity. First, my brother Anthony ... read more

Actions Against Continued War and Torture - Washington DC I just moved from Florida to Maryland and I needed to get out of the house and take some photos. So the idea was to get out, see something different, and just use the time off to improve my photography skills. Not just the average portrait or landscape, but insted a public event. After some searching online I came upon a protest/demonstration in DC. It seemed well organized and the props were pretty good however they seemed to be missing a mega phone. The prisioners in jumpsuits with hoods was an excelent choice to bring out the fear and emotions needed to get the point across. The big headed casts of the government officials were well done and pretty accurate. The presentation of the baseball teams against eachother ... read more

Friday 16th Another travelling day with flights from Lima, to Panama City and then onto Washington. We flew by the entrance to the Panama Canal and saw all the boats lining up for the trip through. Panama City looked quite impressive with lots of sky-scapers. We got to DC and our hotel, the Washington Plaza, at 3.30am!!….and were very glad to crash out in very, very comfy beds. Saturday 17th It seemed the Welsh weather had caught us up and decided it was going to rain all day. Nevertheless we walked 15 minutes from the hotel to the White House and went on a tour of the gardens there. We walked right in front of the Oval Office and because it had lights on inside we could see who was there…it was President Obama himself showing ... read more

Hello from Mark and Liz- Current location- Southeast DC Right now Mark and I are sitting on the couch of a very nice friend- Thanks A. and B. Darconte who offer their spare bedroom to us the night before setting off. And boy are we glad they offered because our plan to pack the mattress tomorrow morning would have seriously back fired. The truck is FULL- see picture. We hired a nice law student to help us load the truck and most of the moving was finished in two hours. Today we started the day off with steak, eggs and mimosas to celebrate the day ahead of us- and to get rid of the left over food. We visited the u-haul store so much that they knew us by name by the end of the day. ... read more

Ok so its that time again for another yarn and tale of my US adventure this time to DC sans parents and Chinese tour company. It was time again for 'we' to travel again, yes superstar Jeremy was back onboard as we headed to DC for the defence funded trip which would put us back in Aus mode for at least 3 days. The trip started off in our travelling shirts which have "that's how we roll" embossed on them. Early start saw us off to the airport and someone's bag being overweight by a pound (half a kilo). My bag weighing in well under the desired weight saw me witness the exchange rather than partake in it this time and watched the lady not so politely tell Jeremy that he needs to watch his weight ... read more

Ok actually made it to central Washington DC. Jumped a metro bus to the city that I haven't visited for 30 years. The city is clean, people are pretty friendly and incredible buildings. The only annoying thing about the city is everyone lays on the horns in there cars....everywhere. Really very annoying. Visited the other Smithsonian air museuem. Not as cool as the one by the airport but they did have the Howard Hughes H-1 racer that is probably the sexiest airplane on the planet, they were restoring it. After that went on to the Smithsonian Art Museum. Monet's, Rembrant's, Manet, and Stuart. Very cool. Finished off at the Smithsonian Natural history museuem. Not impressed and didnt take any pictures of that. Check out what I have so far. Tomorrow Im with Janesse and going on ... read more

My first day of travel! Flew from Detroit metro to Baltimore. Thinking I would save 30-40 dollars on my travel by not flying into Dulles (where im flying out to Brazil) I found out that the shuttle from Balt to Dulles is 65 dollars plus tip. I guess my plan didnt work. So much for being cheap. Got in to my hotel and headed off the the Smithsonian air museum. Only way to describe it is WOW!!... This place is without a doubt one of the single most impressive places I have ever been. I wish I had 3 days to see it all... I will show a few picks. Tomorrow off to D.C. to do some more sight seeing. Dont have a plan and that is my plan. more pics to come.... read more
