Due to my slackness I figured I would keep writing and continue with my recent adventure which took place just over a week ago now to Quebec City in Canada. This time I travelled with a friend of mine Debbie and we really just picked the city out randomly. Thoughts of Europe had creeped into our minds but limited leave days and a long flight meant that ideas were thrown around and somehow we ended up with Quebec City. Having never had an overarching desire to see Canada just yet (I was planning on saving it for my retirement) I must admit that we were both pleasantly surprised and had an absolute blast. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and a quick workout, shower and change saw us hit the town by 1900. Due to our ... read more
Okay its way overdue and Ive been harassed by a few of you so I plan on doing 3 blogs in quick succession to let you know that Im still alive and doing the same things...working hard and playing very hard. In the first week of May I had a conference to attend in San Diego and therefore decided to line it up correctly and head to San Francisco which is a city that I have been wanting to visit for a while now. I headed off from Jacksonville eager and ready to tick of one of my last remaining 'must do's' in the US of A. After a flight connection in Atlanta then another in San Diego I found myself in the land of sunshine and also the state with the highest level of debt ... read more
Its early...5am early and we (Superstar Jeremy who is back for the ride) head to the airport in Jax enroute to Cancun Mexico for 7 days of sun, Xmas, booze AND I get to meet up with Dave (shitlips) Swanson and Simone (NURSO) Franklin. We arrive at the airport a little weary but good and all flights are thankfully on time. By the time we hit ATLANTA its time to throw a football around the airport with everyone in our waiting lounge wearing that look of "I really hope they are not sitting with us". We board the plane and for the next 2Hrs 45mins someone proceeds to fidget the whole flight and after sitting next to wiggly worm for the duration its definitely time to arrive. We arrive in Cancun...all baggage, all transfers, all flights ... read more
Its late I know. It started out as another one of those "Jonno what are you doing in November" and due to work obstacles hampering efforts by both of us to get away we eventually end up in Austin Texas the first weekend of December 2009. Now not one to enjoy the cold AT ALL, I figured Texas equals warm, good steak, and just as notably Austin would equal warm, Tex Mex and live music. The day I leave its freezing in Jacksonville so I figure Im looking at a nice warm weekend away. I get to the airport and my flight has been cancelled. No warning, no phonecall or email, just a sorry you're flight is cancelled because Houston got 3 inches of snow. Now Im not from here but Ive never heard of Houston ... read more
Righteo. Ive had the opportunity to partake in some fine American traditions recently, most notably Halloween and Thanksgiving. Now just to put it in context both are huge holidays here and Halloween is all about excess in costumes, candy (people just stare at me if I say lollies) and alcohol. Id been warned out early (Dec 08) by the Moye family that Halloween was their party and attendance was compulsory so never one to argue or cause a fuss I was in. Superstar (Jeremy) and I were then faced with the task of shopping for costumes and over here a BS mustache and sombrero wont cut it. So with neither of us a fan of shopping and putting it off until the last minute we were not overly enthralled with the task ahead. Finally after procrastinating ... read more
Ok so its that time again for another yarn and tale of my US adventure this time to DC sans parents and Chinese tour company. It was time again for 'we' to travel again, yes superstar Jeremy was back onboard as we headed to DC for the defence funded trip which would put us back in Aus mode for at least 3 days. The trip started off in our travelling shirts which have "that's how we roll" embossed on them. Early start saw us off to the airport and someone's bag being overweight by a pound (half a kilo). My bag weighing in well under the desired weight saw me witness the exchange rather than partake in it this time and watched the lady not so politely tell Jeremy that he needs to watch his weight ... read more
Ok it’s been a little while in between takes and Portland is about a month overdue so here is the second part of my most recent West Coast tour. After being dropped at the airport in Seattle by Jojo my next obstacle was checking my bag and getting a ticket to board the plane. Now as we all know the USA is miles ahead of everyone (insert coughing) and therefore airport travel should be no different right? Due to airlines wanting to make more money and save, you don’t actually get served by a person....the US convenient way to air travel is to wait in line and electronically check yourself in. After standing behind poor Ma and Pa who just want to head home to Idaho and them thinking the word touch screen is something naughty ... read more
Hello Everybody. Recently I took a trip across the country to Seattle and Portland (blog to follow) to see some more of this country and also take a chance to catch up with one of the Jackman 5...Johanna and her family. Now leaving Jacksonville I was paranoid about the cold as it’s rather warm here in Florida and I’m really not that good in the cold..... see NY blog for more details, so I had packed warmish type clothes. With everyone I had spoken to saying "it always rains in Seattle take an umbrella" I took the gamble and decided not to. Umbrellas really annoy me, short people with them poke me and then if you use it you have lug around a wet dripping mass so I jumped on the flight from home (sans umbrella) ... read more
Ok so now it’s time to update as I have been very slack and lazy with this so I figured it’s about time I pulled my finger out. Now late last month ‘we’ (Jeremy and I) had the chance to head up to Norfolk Virginia because being the superstar that he is, Jeremy received his CSM from the Australian Ambassador on HMAS BALLARAT which was partaking in Northern Trident 09. We decided that we would make a road trip out of it and headed up through Georgia and South Carolina where the accents became a little more 'rednecky' (I know that's not a real word either) and the signs on the side of the road told you "We have pecans, hams and remember Jesus loves you". Armed with our newly acquired religious acumen, negative hams ... read more
After 3 weekends spent at home I was getting restless and therefore decided it was time to travel again. On the Monday I had decided to 'go somewhere' by Tuesday I had convinced Jon to 'go somewhere', by Wednesday we agreed to go to New Orleans, by Thursday flights were booked and Friday afternoon saw us sitting on Bourbon Street listening to some very funky music drinking cold beer. Like most of my previous journeys I had stumbled across another wet county which meant wandering around the streets drinking alcohol in plastic cups, picking and choosing between 2 for 1, 3 for 1 and cheap cocktails in Nawlins, NOLA, The Big Easy...call it what you like. Bourbon Street is famous for its atmosphere and live music and there is a direct correlation between alcohol price and ... read more
