Liz writing: Hello faithful followers. If you are getting this email notice, then bravo for keeping your preferences for over two years! A lot has happened since arriving in Missouri, and Mark and I are going to start chronicling the more mundane aspects of our now domestic life. In May we married with many of our family and friends to help celebrate. In June, on our way back from our fabulous Hawaii honeymoon, I convinced Mark that it was FINALLY time to get a dog. Mark relented with the stipulation that we needed to have a back yard. That may have been a stall tactic, but much to his surprise, I used that against him. Our lease was up in August and thought, well maybe we should begin looking for a house. Within a month with ... read more

Ok all. Mark and I took a break, yes, a long break from blogging. We're still not sure when we will stop, but we don't intend for it to be now (or a few months ago). In the middle of April we arrived back in Missouri. We intended on blogging, but left an important camera cord at a friends house along the way. The intention was to blog and post pictures when we had them uploaded with the important wire, but it didn't happen that way. As life goes... We've been doing some exciting things in the last few months, have some neat pictures to share and have some great plans for the upcoming months. Bear with us, family, friends and creepy fans. Stay tuned for pictures from our trip through California, Arizona, five National parks, ... read more

I imagine two initial reactions people may have upon finding out Mark and Liz created a new blog entry: "Finally! Those other blogs I've been reading are terribly unsatisfying" or "Ugh, I thought the west coast swallowed them whole." Truth is, the battery charger to my camera may as well have been swallowed by the Pacific. Instead it was forgotten (by me, oops!) during a stay with Liz's good friend Cassi. The charger is back and now so are the blogs. Up until a week ago Liz and I were living in Harrisonville, MO which is about 30 miles south of the Kansas City. We are now officially into our own apartment in the city which we are extremely excited about. Once the apartment is set up we'll post a blog about the move including photos ... read more

Alright, back to it… As I’d mentioned in the previous blog, we arrived in San Simeon late in the evening, hungry and tired. First priority was finding a place to stay, followed closely by identifying a place to eat. After traveling up and the down the strip, which appeared to be the entire town, we decided on the Silver Surf Motel for lodging and the restaurant attached to the San Simeon Lodge for dinner. High class, all the way! The bar was nearly empty and about ready to close when we walked in. The chef probably couldn’t have been too happy with us but to our amazement we were not even the last to arrive. Our hunger outweighed any feelings of guilt anyhow. As could be expected the next morning we got moving slowly and were ... read more

Liz blogging: Ok, people, we've gone a bit of a distance since leaving mid-day last week from Jackson. So far we've stayed in Boise, Id; Portland, Or; Garberville, Ca; Oakland, CA; and are currently in San Simeon, Ca. We're having a fabulous time, and have enjoyed visiting with various friends and family members. Highlights include: Biking and hiking in Portland, eating great food in Portland, visiting the Tilamook creamery, hiking along the Oregon coastal range, driving through Redwoods, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, buying pearls in Chinatown, watching sea otters munch on their lunch, and driving PCH 1 through Big Sur. Black Betty is still chugging along albeit very packed. Today we leave San Simeon for L.A. where we will stay a day with a high school friend of mine, hop down to Long Beach for ... read more

Liz blogging. Currently listening to Meiko. Mark with the captions. It has been one busy week for the Icenogle and Joseph families. On Saturday, March 6th, Mark asked me to marry him and I said "well maybe- whats in it for me?"(Ok, really, I said Yes and started to walk away, but more about that later). He planned it well- my mom was in town, who also happened to be the ring mule, and his parents arrived the next day. Mark did keep it relatively secret, but both our parents knew as well as my aunt and uncle. Mark tells me he had originally planned to pop the question at the end of the month during our time in Salt Lake City. When both sets of parents decided to visit, he moved the day up. It ... read more

Mark and then Liz posting: It is hard to believe that Liz and I have been in Jackson for nearly four months already. And despite the fact that winter never truly arrived, we have had made the most of the weather that was given to us. I was surprised to find out that Jackson has received 300 inches of snow so far this year and that is 60% of what could typically be expected at this point in the season. It does not seem as though there has been that much snow because those totals are measured higher up in the mountains - and for one reason or another there has been very little accumulation at the base. Still Liz and I have used our ski passes at Snow King a couple dozen times which has ... read more

Liz posting: Well it has been over a week since our return to Yellowstone and I think we are almost recovered from the near-disaster we avoided only by the grace of the free-ranging American Bison we encountered. We have fully briefed our families and, while concerned, they are glad that we are back in safe quarters at the "ranch" in Jackson. However, let me start from the beginning. A couple blogs ago Mark mentioned that we hoped to make it to Yellowstone during the winter season. From about December 1st to April, the park is closed off to vehicular traffic and the only ways to get in and out of the park is via Snow coach or snowmobile. We booked the least expensive trip possible through the company who runs the facilities throughout the park- Xanterra. ... read more

Since moving to Jackson I have skied almost a dozen times. That is quite a bit considering that, prior to December, the last time I found myself enjoying the thrills of speeding down a hill on two planks of wood and carbon fiber was approximately 8.5 million minutes earlier in my lifetime. To put that in perspective, let me be an accountant for a moment and break it down for you. That's 140,160 hours, 5,840 days or 16 long years - more than half my lifetime. It amazes me to think that the beginning of my hiatus came following a ski trip during winter break of eighth grade, most likely December 1993 or January 1994, at 14 years old. I don't have any specific memories of that day but I do know I went to Wachusett ... read more

Liz posting: Well it has been a long time and I've been telling Mark that I would post now for weeks...so apologies to all of our adoring fans. We have been receiving "posting requests" from both sides of our families, which we love- we are in demand! We haven't posted something since before Christmas, so we do have a lot to catch up on. Christmas was nice, but it didn't seem quite like Christmas without the normal travel, shopping, wrapping presents, and, mostly, lots of family surrounding us. That said, we did have a really great time which was made all the better by the packages we received from around the US. My aunt, who lives a few houses away from us, received a number of the packages for us. She would sneak into the house ... read more
