Map of Central America Caribbean
Central America is a narrow isthmus of land connecting North America to South America. The North Pacific Ocean lies to the southwest, the Caribbean Sea lies to the northeast, and the Gulf of Mexico lies to the north.

Most of Central America rests atop the Caribbean Plate. The region is geologically active, with volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occurring from time to time. Fertile soils from weathered volcanic lavas have enabled highland areas to support large towns and cities.

Central America provides a stunning coastline, temperate waters, tropical forests and a rich and diverse cultural experience, with numerous archaeological sites of civilizations past.

Highlights

 • Ancient Mayan ruins in Tikal, Copán and Joya de Cerén.
 • Colonial towns and architecture.
 • To Be Updated

We had to rise very early that day, and shake off the beers from the night before. My travelling companion, who shall remain anonymous, was having some travelling stomach issues. Neither of us was at the top of our game. I flagged the bus over and we climbed in. We were quickly surrounded by blonde-haired, gangly-legged European youths, who looked far too healthy and sober to be sharing a bus with us. The journey was long, and after we left the paved road behind, it threatened to reshape my spine. Pulling up a sharp incline we reached a small village. A [View Full Entry]

(h2)Uvita small, tranquillo, surf(h2) I was told the best way to Panama was to go back to San Jose and then take the direct bus. Luckily I decided on the local bus, Local Bus means almost like a school bus, pulling off the highway often to go down gravel roads to service locals in the area. BUT CR is a small country. Even local buses can get me to Panama in 6 hrs. I got up without alarm at 06:15 s morning so instead of the 09:00 bus I was late but decided to scoot up the road and try for the [View Full Entry]

Dec. 03 07:00 Day 7 of 3 months, I had my first bad sleep. The rooms here are really small luckily only one roomie so we had enough air, unluckily he went to bed early, he's still sleeping making it hard to find toiletries etc (dark). Dominical a small town between Quepos and Ubita... saw a bit of it and it looks great, the beach is big and right on the doorsteps of the big open air restaurants, motels, etc, wide and covered with palms trees and great surf. Not so touristy like Manuel Antonio. Today I had my back pack [View Full Entry]

Had a fantastic couple of days down the coast at The Punta Roca Surf Resort. San Blas. Even quieter than El Tunco Beach if that was possible and actually a little eerie when you first turn up and there is nothing but the resort and only one other person staying! Actually the pets out numbered us with the cutest pair of dogs and resident parrots, frogs et al! One dog we took a particular shine to as he was a heinz 57 who had white feet so we named him White socks and he seemed happy to answer to that! Half [View Full Entry]

Since my posts have been lacking in pictures, I added a good amount from the past couple of weeks. A. Molly and I had a romantic Tropical Tgiving without an oven. The cake was an interesting debacle but turned out delicious. B. Some pictures from the Nim Li Punit trip. C. Big Falls, a local village, had a Bizarre (fun fair school fundraiser). We stood out like sore thumbs as two of the only four white people there and were therefore the entertainment for 79% of the children there. At first I thought they were hanging all over us because they [View Full Entry]

The last few weeks have been rather eventful since my last entry. I learnt to love Roatan. The latin american experience I was looking for (whatever that is anyway) I discovered would never be found. The history and culture of the island are more routed in Garifuna traditions than Latin American ones. In fact the locals I met and spoke with did not see themselves as Hondurans at all. The Garifunas are descendents of African slaves that were left on the islands in the 1600s. The people of Roatan were warm and friendly. I was constantly invited to have dinner at [View Full Entry]

Mark and I just left Boquete this morning after a delightful 5 nights there. It is well-named as the city of Eternal Spring--at 3500' elevation at the foot of Volcano Baru, it's climate is refreshing. And clearly it is well-adapted to living things...birds, flowers, citrus, avocados, papaya, banana, coffee, coconuts. We enjoyed the Independence Day parade, a couple garden visits, an animal rescue place, a coffee tour, a canopy tour with zipline high above the cloud forest floor, good food, and really enjoyed meeting friends of my brother Don, who have an Artisan Concrete business. I'm new at b [View Full Entry]
