If It Ain´t Broke, Don´t Fix It Central America Caribbean » Costa Rica » Samara By TicoTime May 16th 2007 Dolphin, off the Port Bow! They were just too cool.Hello All, We´re still loving our time on the beach here in Samara, and when we realized how sad we were about having to leave, we decided to stay another day. The thought of camping amid torrential downpours, mud, humid tropical heat and most of all, bugs that are out of this world, we made the decision to abort our planned camping trip to Corcovado. Which is somewhat disappointing but we figured after being forced down from Cerro Chato we could end up having a similar experience. And it takes a day of travel on the bus from San Jose to get there (after staying overnight) and ... read more

Last night was a big disco night and getting up this morning was difficult. While a big group of us had planned to enjoy a beach day in Grand Cayman, only Emma (dancer), Marvin (showband pianist) and I actually made it off the ship this morning. We went to Treasure Island, a hotel on Seven Mile Beach. No fee to go to the hotel. They have a small spot of the beach. Really pretty, but the water was rather rough so we didn't stay down there long. Mostly we stayed by the poolside bar enjoying free internet and nice food. NOTE: When Travelblog crashed in summer 2007, this entry was lost and I was unable to recover it. I wasn't journalling very consistently at this time either so I can't fill in the blanks from there. ... read more

Hey Everyone! I realize it's been a while since I've written anything, but believe me, it's because I've been as busy as ever. Only a couple months away from my one year anniversary of the move to Costa Rica, life has never been better. I finally started taking Salsa lessons (3 private classes for a whopping 12 bucks a class!) It has been one of the more rewarding experiences thus far. I believe it's important to learn and participate in the cultural aspects of a new country. My goal at the beginning of my trip was to become fluent in Spanish, integrate fully into the culture, and to contribute to the community that gave me this opportunity. So far so good. My spanish is improving drastically, the Salsa and the cooking are picking up, and ... read more

Flores  Central America Caribbean » Guatemala » Flores Tikal By lynzMay 15th 2007lyndsey We happened to pass through Flores several times. From what i gathered it's mostly an island specifically geared towards tourism, but we had fun there. There was a nice bar right on the water that we would frequent for sunsets, and often we'd go for an evening dip in the lake. (sort of gave me unwanted dreadlocks and itchy skin, but at the time it was pleasant.) I don't really have much else to say for it other than it was a jump off point....although we did have a nice rooftop gathering one night with people from all... read more

On 6th May we caught a little minibus shuttle from Copan into Guatemala and went straight to the old colonial town of Antigua. It is a really beautiful town, full of tourists but we loved it. Lots of colourful buildings and quaint cobbled streets and funky restaurants. That night we went to Café La Escudilla, a lovely restaurant in a little courtyard full of plants. It has a daily special of a soup, main course and lemonade for just over a quid/ R15. Such a bargain and the food is delicious! The next day we headed into the sprawling Guatemala City to visit the Mexican Embassy to get Kez a visa. As soon as we arrived and saw the sign on the door saying you needed an appointment, we knew this wasn’t going to be ... read more

Hey!! Well, Im here!! I arrived safe and sound and now im sitting in an internet cafe in Turriabal. Carlos (the driver from the company) met me at the airport. Took me to the bus station where I waited fr the bus to Turrialba. The ride was very much like the ride from the airport in Dominica to Ross (for those of you who have been in Dominica--very narrow and curvy) My tico mother met me at the bus station and took me home. She is a cute little lady, doesnt speak a lick of English! Communication was a little dicey, but she is very patient.
