And so to the home of the Incas, and Paddington Bear... My trip to Peru was neither long, nor original. With time short, I basically devised a plan for a short, sharp hit on the jewel in the thorny crown of South American travel, Cusco, and Macchu Picchu. This is probably the most established tourist centre in South America, and dont they know it.. from the touts at Cusco bus station to the ski resort like prices at the Macchu Picchu cafe, you are reminded that you are certainly on the tourist conveyor belt. Well I planned on doing this 3day circut trek up in the mountains behind Huaras, but when I arrived at Laguna Churup at the end of day 1 I liked it so much that I decided to just kick it there for a couple of days and then go back to Huaras. And I had the whole place to myself apart from about 5 other trekkers per day that came up for a look, and a stray dog I called Henry who made sure that not one scrap of my sloppy food went to waste. Woziz! this morning I was in this little town called Nazca where there are these amazing lines out in the desert around the town that are over 2000yrs old and no-one really knows how they got there. Some of them make up shapes of animals but you can only see them from the sky, so although they are pretty sure that it was the old Nazca race of people that made them, there are also a few theories about some sort of alien influence. I couldn't make my mind up, but I do know that they are absolutely amazing and definately one of the most intersting things that I've seen so far on my trip. I just got back from the 4day Inca Trail to Machu Pichu and it was absolutely amazing! We walked for about 6hrs a day, camped each night and ended up at the old Inca ruins of Machu Pichu. It was hard work with a lot of uphill and big steps, and the weather was pretty cloudy and foggy for the first three days and it even rained a bit one day, but when we got there on the fourth day the weather was perfect so we were all so stoked! My group of 14 was made up of a lot of Americans, an Irish couple, a South African woman, a Pom and me, and we had a lot of fun!
