19th October- 21st October: Lima 21st October- 25th October : Iquitos 25th October- 26th October: triborder (Peru, Columbia, Brazil) I stopped in Lima long enough to get my Brazilian visa...for the second time! how my plans have changed on this holiday.. have doubled my initial holiday period..i promise i will come back...maybe next year! I dropped my passport on friday morning, hoping to pick it up before the weekend...though warned that it would be unlikely. The old woman comes out in the afternoon, and says in english ìm sorry'. Thinkin i was stuck for the weekend, she then produces my passport from behind her back and gives me the biggest grin..have to love her!! Flew straight to Iquitos. the biggest city that has no roads leading into it. Can only get there by boat or plane. ... read more

Travelling from Vilcabamba southwards meant that we crossed into Peru at the most eastern and more remote border post. Being off the beaten track had its advantages, one of which being that I got to practise my Spanish an awful lot, but it also meant that we had to be quite canny and organised as transport options were much more limited. We travelled for 3 days in a variety of cars, collectivos, trucks and minibuses, and I'm sure came close to breaking a few world records for the number of people that can be crammed into a single car, along the way. It didn't matter as the journeys were interesting enough. The scenery changed dramatically into lush jungle and the heat ratcheted up suddenly to become extremely hot and humid. One thing that didn't change though ... read more

First of all, thanks for all your messages, its good to see that the blog is being read and it works! (hope you are reading this Amanda-ed) We have spent the last couple of weeks in Peru, our next stop after Arequipa was a little town called Huachachina that exists purely for tourists because of the HUGE sanddunes surrounding it and the oasis that is set in the middle of the town- all abit mad! After all our bus journeys, we thought we deserved a bit of a break and spent 3 nights in this town chilling out at the pool in our hostel which was more like a hotel - me likes alot. We also had some fun trying to sandboard down the sand dunes surrounding the town, I thought I would be ok as ... read more

Hey what´s new, I am way behind on my travelblogs - As always I hope you and yours are doing well. For the few of you who read them, sorry. I guess I will start where I am currently and when I have time make up for the past. Sorry, but this is a long one. Just in case any of you are reading this with your kids - don´t let them read this. Currently I am in iquitos, Peru - in the jungle. This is a big city, about 400k in the Amazon, it is a river town where barges and ferry's ply the waters delivering and picking up people and goods. I even arrived here on a boat. (If you want to see pictures of the boat ride, iquitos or of a short ... read more

Hi all, this is Lorna. Firstly sorry for the punctuation on this blog - this keyboard is half spanish and half english and there are a few things including apostrophes that I cant find! Weve been slack with the blogs the last few days - mainly cos theres no electricity in the jungle, but then since back in Lima weve been pretty busy. Now, Ali is off out on a city tour with the rest of the group were travelling with, but having suffered with the dreaded peruvian belly for the past 12 hours or so, I am hotel bound and thought I would bash out a blog - Ali may decide to add an extra one when she gets back if I dont include everything on this! Anyways....so what have we been up to? Last ... read more
