All in all, Cuzco is a pretty rad place. After Bolivia, Cuzco was a lovely, refreshing breath of Spanish air, with cobbled streets and little, twisting roads that actually lead to somewhere - my hostel. My few words on Cuzco in my last blog to no extent give the place justice. Sure, its full of tourists, but the architecture and the city itself, Plaza de Armas and of course, the churches give it such a great atmosphere that I found the place really quite addictive. Not to mention the cobbled streets, which provide a spirit that no number of twisted ankles could dampen. The hostel that I stayed at was, as I said, at the end of a dark little alleyway, down from this twisting one way street with half a metre of side walk on ... read more

Here is what one of my typical days is like when I decide to get my act together and actually do something that day. Ever since I started traveling, I've been a very early riser; which is very opposite to my character for anyone who knows me. Today I had slept in till about 8:30 or so. Yesterday I had met a girl from New York who wanted to go on a day trip out to Moray so I thought I would join her. Her name was Bettina but she was Taiwanese which I thought was odd since it's a German name. I guess it cant be any odder than me having a last name of Roth. The first stop of the day was to a town called Chinchari to go see some ruins. I opted ... read more

Eng Ver below Cusco bylo glownym miastem imperium Inkow. Miasto oferuje wiele. Z przyjemnoscia mozna tu spedzic kilka dni, odwiedzajac liczne koscioly, spacerujac uroczymi uliczkami z kafejkami i rekodzielem peruwianskim. Zycia nocne jest rowniez bardzo urozmaicone. Niesamowita jest roznica temperatur w ciagu dnia i noca. Kiedy swieci slonce, koszulka z krotkim reka... read more

On to the land of the Incas. Grudgingly farwelling Bolivia, we headed off on a big old bus to Peru. I had finally settled in my seat, having been moved several times by the pack of peruvian ladies (full velvet skirts, aprons, bowler hast and all) who were lugging what appeared to be 2 full households worth of gear from Copa to Cusco, and was enjoying lingering views of the lake when I was jolted back to reality by my husband´s somewhat concerning call of ´oh Jesus´. Not being an overly religous man, I assumed he was not getting into some spiritual healing. No, he was reacting to the bus barreling towards us as we gunned it downhill on a path that didn´t look good. By some shear luck, we passed each other, but the fun ... read more

The train from Cusco to Machu Piccu is officially the most expensive public transport, per Km travelled, on the planet. The only way to get to M.P. is the train - no flights, boats, buses, cars; your only other option is a 4-day hike, booked out 8 months in advance. You COULD go cross-country with a stolen Llama, but if Cusco's anything to go by, you'd have to pry the reins out of the gnarled grip of one of the 100 year-old Peruvian ladies who shuffle around the tourist district extorting money for photos from travellers, who want to pat the funny little creature ('You choose, same price: the Llama or the Lady!'). I actually thought she was one of those irritating 'Living Statue' performance artists dressed as a pre-Incan mummy in traditional clothes until she ... read more

Eigenlijk wel lekker, want waarschijnlijk ... read more

Cuzco Day 40 We arrived last night in Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital said to be founded around 1100AD. Today, we needed rest so we sleepily wandered around the town taking in very little but organising our next few days. The town is kept very well that is obvious and for the first time on our trip we saw a concentrated mass of tourists. The seething masses were now unfamiliar to us and we felt that our travels had almost become invaded, exposed to the public! - however we are now on the Inca trail and tourists were a sight in Peru we had to get used to. The City Tour - Day 41 During our morning stroll around our local neighbourhood of San Blas we stumbled across a little museum displaying the artisan works of ... read more

Hey all, here´s what we´ve been up to since the last update.. I warn you its wuite a long one (again). Sorry! If you cant be bothered to read it just click on the links (or cut and paste) and look at pictures! LA PAZ We spent a looooong time in La Paz which is Bolivia´s capital and probable one of my favourite cities I have ever been to. Apparently 50% of people who visit La Paz love it and the others hate it! We thought it was amazing. Its really chaotic and completely surrounded by huge snow covered mountains with steep streets and lots going on. You can buy or do pretty much anything there and it is really really cheap! We stayed in the same hostel as everyone we have been travelling with which ... read more

Koniningedag is geweest. Diezelfde week hadden de Peruanen ... read more

On the 27th it was my birthday and I celebrated it in Cusco where we stayed for a few days after the Inca Trail. On the night of the 26th, Gemma and I celebrated our birthdays together and so a big group of us went out to the Fallen Angels restaurant. It was such a funky place; our table was a bath tub filled with goldfish and covered with glass and we sat on a heart shaped sofa! There was loads of cool lights and paintings on the wall. Some people had dressed up in fancy dress. We had a delicious meal and some tasty cocktails. After that we headed out into the main plaza to go out and went to a bar and then a club where we danced the night away, until I was ... read more
