Greetings from Argentina....Ive seen a lot of places since the last blog so I shall start from Salta, our first stop in Northern Argentina. Wow, I really did love Salta. A perfect place to start off in and I was quite upset to leave. Not too big and not too small with a pretty plaza with bundles of al fresco dining and music on the streets. We spent a few days here chilling out and wandering around getting ourselves used to be being back in civilization...traffic lights, paved roads, proper shops and normal flushing toilets with no buckets required, what a treat!. In Salta, we visited an archaelogical museum which is famous for its 500 year old mummified inca child which is on display. A little bit creepy for me, but still, it was amazing how ... read more

I have been in Salta Capital for a few days now. Staying in a hostel called the Corre Caminos. Its a popular spot with the porteños (people from Buenos Aires) who pass though on their two week summer holiday though the provinces of Salta and Jujuy. I met a great couple, Florencia and Sebastian, through couchsurfing who have been showing me around town and taking good care of me. Most of the night life here happens in the Balcarce strip, a noisy and crowded couple of blocks of bars, clubs and peñas. Peñas are the traditional folk music venues for which this region seems to be known. Most of them on the Balcarce strip are a little contived and touristy, but still quite a bit of fun. My first night here they took me a place ... read more

So, we got back to San Pedro, and went looking for a bus to Salta. Only problem was that there weren't any until 2 January. Not wanting to stay in San Pedro for over a week, I had decided to either try and hitchhike, or go down to La Serena with Rob and Beth. I went to bed on Boxing Day pondering this decision. About an hour later I got woken up by Mirte, who had come across 2 girls in the street that had a car going to Salta tomorrow, and needed 2 people to fill it up. After a small bit of negotiation over the price, it was all sorted, and I was going to Salta, Argentina. Steak Ahoy! Steak 1 The actual day of travel wasn't much special. We met our driver Humberto, ... read more

Finally we had arrived in Argentina and we were staying a place called Salta for 2 days which I must admit I´d never heard of before but if you ever make it to Argentina it is a beautiful place to visit and we really recommend you go. We stayed in a campsite outside Salta and it had the biggest outdoor a swimming pool in the world according to the Lonely Planet. We set up our tents and immediately hit the pool for a swim which was much needed after our drive. After a warm shower (you really appreicate hot showers when you travel in South America) we headed into Salte city central where we meet up with everyone for a drink in the main square which was really nice. The local recommended beer in Salta is ... read more

Day 626 (15.12.08) After an excellent breakfast we decided to head out together with Tess and Haydn to explore Salta. Immediately on our arrival we'd felt the difference between here and Bolivia with a far more developed and prosperous feel to the city yet the streets were still teeming with cars and the hustle and bustle of South America was still very apparent. We planned to explore the area around the city so after trawling a few car rental companies and booking ourselves a vehicle for the next couple of days we made our way towards the central plaza passing some very bright and ornately decorated churches as we walked. The plaza, lined on all sides with beautiful buildings, was very pretty and, we felt, the perfect spot for a light refreshment. As we sat under ... read more

Today is.......I dont know, and thats really nice actually. Finally me and Pil have found somewhere to chill out for a few days, and last night we had our first night out on the town here in argentina......kind of......we are here in the beautifull town of Salta, surrounded by huge mountains which the clouds hug onto and cable cars run to the top of. Getting to Salta is a story of its own, it was crazy. We spent three days in the natural paradise i wrote of, we ended up staying in the most expensive place in town because we only had our cards and they were the only place that would take them. It had a pool and huge gardens and our room had its own bathroom and we were served three vegetarian meals a ... read more
