Little correction: the university was built in the 17th century and is the oldest in Argentina and the 4th ot 3rd of whole South America. To build the close iglesia de la compañía de jesús, several thousand indios in the north of argentina were educated and they made all the pieces of the church, which then were transported to Córdoba (where no trees grow that could be used to construct such a building). Today I walked through the whole microcentro plus extensions. On a Saturday, half Córdoba is there for shopping, eating, having coffees etc. Fortunately, there are many possibilities to quickly sit down because it's still quite hot. After the city tour, I visited the Evita museum (museo superior de bellas artes). On the way to the museum I passed by the only gothic church ... read more

Today I went with the americanas to the muesum of the university of Córdoba, founded in the 16th century by Jesuits. The building is very beautiful, but imagine studying for 16 years, then defending your thesis during 3 days in front of everybody more or less important at the university, and passing this exam with a chance of about 5%... Nowadays, the best college here in town (Monserrat) does something similar by chosing only the best students, however, this selection is based only on the children's skills since the college is for free (btw: first girl accepted in 2001). It's very interesting to learn about the history and educational system over here (also we wouldn't call this university very old..). We enlarged our knowledge even more by visiting the museo provincial de bellas artes, where they ... read more

First day: survived! :-) I spent my first day mainly with buying the most important things and visited thus the most central part of the city. It's a very beautiful city and for tomorrow, a real city trip is planned. But most importantly: they found my lugagge and brought it to the hostel! Beside shopping I was mainly sleeping. The trip, the jet lag, and the climate here make me very tired. I read again the entry from yesterday: I hope you understood it :-) ... read more

On the 17th we headed on an overnight bus trip to Cordoba, which was unfortunately a disaster trip. The tire popped and the bus was an hour late and then 2 hours outside of Cordoba at 7am the bus broke down and we were left to figure things out on our own. Meg tried to work her magic and complained explaining she wanted to be financially compensated for the last stretch of the journey or have our colectivo (city bus) bus ticket paid for to get to our final destination. Of course ¨NO¨ was their response ¨solo soy chofer¨ can´t help you. We left our new found friends, whihc we met on the journey and headed out solos to Cordoba. Finally arriving around noon we walked a few miles, bags and all in search of a ... read more

Well we're now in Cordoba. We arrived 7.10am yesterday after taking overnight bus from Buenos Aires. Ended upbooking directly through Omnia bus company's office as cheaper than rates we'd been given via hostel. Travelled 3rd class and surprisingly comfy much more leg room than economy class on plane! Slept pretty well too apart from when they switched lights on at 1.30am for a 30min stop! Staying at Cordoba Backpackers which isn't as goodaslast place but it does have hot water although we had no water at allthis morning!! Have now shared 2 showers with an earwig which is quite scary forsomeonewho has an earwig phobia! Caught bus for2 hr tripto Villa General Belgrano which is a German and Swiss style town but disappointingly no German was being spoken. Very touristy but did walk up steep hill ... read more

So.....the last updates.....we went to Cordoba....didnt really like the city so much, we were only there for 2 days anyhow. We went to a swimming pool, and subathed and then the next day we walked round the city. All the city was was churches and churches and shops and churches. They were all very beautiful, but a bit boring after a while. I was also a bit poorly with a cold, so we went back to the hostel and relaxed. We then found out that Bolivia have a bus strike due to the increase in petrol prices, and we need to be in Peru for Macchu Picchu for the 16th Jan, so we made an executive decision, to bypass Boliva and go through Chile. We were lucky that one of our fellow travellers informed us about ... read more

Ola, We had to wake up before sunrise, which is before the affects of red wine have completely worn off for those keeping track at home, and we hopped on a bus to Tucuman. The bus was one of the least comfortable we had been on so far and it stopped every minute or so to pick up locals and kids on their way to school as it did the milk run the whole way. On part of it, we ascended up a pass, climbing up and out of the desert and into the clouds, only to come out on the other side in a lush, green forest that was extremely wet!!! We arrived in Tucuman and we had eight or so hours to kill there before our bus out of town. We wandered into town ... read more

We arrived at Cordoba around 8am after a brilliant bus we were refreshed. We walked to our hostel (Turning Point Hostel) and got checked in straight away. We decided to book our bus tickets to Mendoza for the following day through the hostel 145 pesos (about 25 quid) then have a look around Cordoba. I liked Cordoba, we found out pretty much straight away that there wasn't much to do there but it was just nice walking around the city, it had quite a large university in the center and parts of it reminded me of Leeds. I decided to get my haircut as it was getting abit jungle like and even though the barber spoke fairly good English i just asked for the same as the guy before me as it looked like i normally ... read more

We left BA with heavy hearts feeling we left a lot undone but onto another night bus to Cordoba we went. Usual drama with catching the bus but sure we got there eventually as we always do. Cordoba is a big college city and known as a place to go to skydive. I’ve been planning on doing a skydive here all along so this stop was all my idea. We arrived at 7 am in the morning and had a lot of bother finding somewhere to stay. It was a much bigger city than we’d expected and there seemed to be no area where all the backpacker hostels were. Finally at about 10am we found somewhere and went for a nap. When we got up we went for a wander and I booked my skydive for ... read more
