After my adventures in skydiving, I had been in Cordoba for almost two weeks. My second week in Cordoba was less action-packed but no less interesting. I walked around the downtown area some more and rediscovered some of my favorite landmarks in Cordoba, including the neo-Gothic church (see pictures below). After taking it easy during the beginning of the week, I packed my schedule towards the end. I hadn´t planned on being in Cordoba past two weeks, but a certain girl named Mica changed things (I´m not complaining!) On Wednesday Mica invited me to an evening Mass. I hadn´t been to church in quite awhile and thought it would be interesting to experience a service in Argentina. Although I´m not Catholic, I could follow along with the Mass pretty well. Following the Mass there was a ... read more

An 11 hour layover in Washington, DC. What a great way to start a trip. I arrived in DC at 11am after a short flight from Philadelphia and had to kill 11 hours before my flight to Buenos Aires in the evening. I went downtown and saw the familiar sights along The Mall. It´s always good to refresh your memory of what it all looks like every few years. After meeting up with a friend from undergrad for dinner, it was back to the airport for the 11 hour flight to Buenos Aires. I had barely slept the night before so the whole flight was a blur. I even slept through breakfast, which never happens. After arriving at the Ezeiza International Airport, I took a shuttle straight to Aeroparque, the national airport, to catch my 1 ... read more

So here we are again, two years later, BACK in South America. I have been planning this trip for a couple months now and will be in Argentina and Uruguay for 6 weeks, with today being day one of my trip. After spending so much time in Cordoba, Argentina last time and loving it so much (http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Argentina/Cordoba/blog-149971.html) I decided to come back. This time around I´ll be spending a lot more time in Cordoba and then just seeing where the wind takes me. Well it took me over 30 hours to get here, and besides three plane rides, one taxi and one bus, there´s not much to tell. I will be writing a full blog entry in the next few days. I just wanted to get in touch with everybody (sorry if I haven´t been in ... read more

Hey Guys, Well our bus trip this time was good as we were back in Royal Class (where we belong I might add) so we arrived well rested and ready to see the sights and get settled in. After walking from what seemed like one end of the city to the other we finally found a hostel. We were staying in the older part of town which was really nice since the area we were in was all walking streets lined with Colonial buildings, plazas and churches and the streets were lined with vendors. Anyways we decided to grab some lunch and then check out the local stores and vendors. Well after we ate we started walking around and noticed everything was closed, which isn´t uncommon in South America as many buisnesses close for lunch. Well ... read more

Cordoba, the second largest city in Argentina, is said to be the second capital as well. The city is nice and rather clean. There are a lot of colonial buildings to see and lots of museums as well. We did not spend much time in Cordoba. Only two days exploring the city and of course the world cup stadium as well. Due to the legendary match at the world cup 1978 that ended 3-2 between Austria and Germany, many Austrians just go and visit the stadium. A normal stadium, nothing very special, but it still is the place of the Austria's legendary football success over germany. If you ask for teh way to the stadium, people in Cordoba just laugh and ask whether you are from Austria :D So on Tuesday evening we took the bus ... read more

Hi Guys…have just crossed the border into Argentina to a city called Salta and have arrived in Cordoba after a great month in Bolivia. We started Copacobana from where we sailed on the slowest boat of all time (we were about to find out that crap transport is a real feature of Bolivia) to Isla del Sol. We had met up with a dutch guy when leaving Peru who turned out to be a bit of a tool but he came along for the gallery. Isla del Sol was cool. Stayed on the island for one night with the intention of trekking to the other side of the island to see some ruins. So we arose from bed early and set off. After about 20 minutes of walking up a hill ((at serious altitude) we gave ... read more

At least according to Che Guevara. Find out why later in this latest exciting episode of Stewart's blog. So, to Cordoba. Before I created this 3 weeks window, it was always going to a place I ended up skipping over. And after spending 6 days there, I've got to say I'm quite glad I didn't. I've got to say though, that Argentina's second city didn't make the greatest of first impressions on me. You see, my first day in places I usually go out and see "the sights". But unless you like churches, Cordoba doesn't really have many. Sure, theres the Jesuit block, and the plazas are all very nice, but nothing really stood out. But then I realised I was coming at Cordoba completely the wrong way. You see for me, Cordoba is more a ... read more

Do not judge Cordoba by my fleeting visit. I spent six hours on a bus from Rosario to Cordoba with minimal air conditioning. Sickening heat.....I got to the city, took a taxi to my hostel and had a shower to wake up. I tried to get to the city centre, but the days are getting shorter here. It occurred to me that I am witnessing autumn three times in 14 months. Frankly, I am getting tired of the days that get shorter. It puts more pressure on me to get to hostel, then bank, then laundramat, then any tourist site nearby before darkness falls. Often, I run out of time. That was the way it was in Cordoba. From what I could tell, there were many handsome buildings to find if you had the time in daylight ... read more
