Banks Peninsula, Akaroa 8th February 2009 Our 'big' day whilst staying at Christchurch was spent driving to the Banks Peninsula to Akaroa, where we boarded a boat for a dolphin watching/swimming trip. The boys opted to watch only, whilst us girls donned wetsuits and snorkels (highly attractive!) and prepared to swim with the rarest and smallest dolphins - Hectors dolphins. We didn't have too long to wait. We saw dolphins before very long at all - one had a baby with it so we couldn't swim with them as it would disturb the feeding, but it was exciting to see. It wasn't long before we were in the sea bobbing around with a curious pod of Hector's dolphins swimming around us. It was just amazing to be so close to them. We weren't allowed to touch ... read more

Once I checked out of the Asylum, I headed up the coast to Christchurch, the other big city on the south island. I stayed here for one night before heading east onto Banks Peninsula to a small French town named Akaroa. I stayed in another really nice hostel just out of town, the Onuku Farm hostel. It was located up on a hill surrounded by farm paddocks with wonderful hammocks overlooking the Akoroa harbor. There was even another section of the hostel for the more rugged folks, an outdoor kitchen and common area and dorms without electricity. But the main thing that drew me to this hostel was the dolphin swimming excursions. In the morning they took four of us out on a small boat searching for dolphins in the harbor. Just a few minutes out ... read more

Enfin quelques photos!... read more

Akaroa, New Zealand, South Island - December 26th - 5:52pm I’m starting to think that the days just get longer and longer. Lee and I got room service today at 6:30am so we could be up and ready by 7:15 to go on our 9 hour tour. I was a few minutes late but much better than last time. Things started off ok, I helped get people out of the rendezvous lounge and into the tender boats. Tenders are always make for a scrambled day, but things went alright. We were a little behind schedule already but that’s alright we have a few hours on the bus to make up for it. Lee and I were the last ones on the bus as we escorted everyone to the correct busses and we were stuck sharing seats ... read more

Back in the Jucy Camper Club November 13, 2008 You all would have had a good laugh watching us lug our stuff back to the Melbourne Airport at six in the morning. The hotel was so close it made no sense to get a taxi, but just far enough away for us to work up a sweat. We were told that since it was an international flight (NZ) we should be there two hours ahead of boarding time. We walked to the JetStar check in counter and not only were we the only passengers in sight, but the Jet Star employees didn’t show up till about 90 minutes before the flight. We felt we could have slept an hour longer this morning. Flying in to NZ was beautiful, it was a rare cloudless day and ... read more
