Hi everyone! just thought I would let you know how the fist week has gone! I was pretty shattered first few days in Auckland but glad to be around family, jenny nigel and the boys took really good care of me and i had a really nice few days with them. spent some time visiting the local beaches which are just beautiful, visited auckland, went up the sky tower, which is a massive land mark in the city, its a big tower which you can go up, it has a restaurant at the top and glass view points all the way around which look out over the city. on the way up the elevator has a glass front, which was pretty cool, but I dont mind heights and it even made my head spin a bit! ... read more

So, just a quick note to let you know you've come to the right place if you try our link! ... and 2 exciting bits of information to keep you stimulated until we actually have something to write about: 1. The UK airspace is open and with a bit of luck will stay open, and so we are leaving these somewhat chilly shores this Sunday (25 April) - about the only day of the year we actually might encounter traffic on our way to the airport at 5am! We (finally) have some concrete plans, and are staying in London for a week before heading over to Paris for 5 nights. After that we plan on heading to Strasbourg, Lyon, Marseilles, Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Bordeaux, and then back to the UK. Buuuuttt, all plans after Paris are ... read more

Well the final stages of the trip have been very exciting and full of all those tourist things you do with kids a s well as some not so tourist things. I would have to say the latter were more onjoyable. I think sometimes you have to just follow your nose and see where you end up. Our next leg was from Wellington up towards Napier. We headed off hoping to get up the coast early. NO! On the way we stoped at Masterton to refuel both the our bellies. Well not to be. We found the most amazing park there and didnt want to leave. The kids had a ball. So this put a delay on our arrival time at our next stopover- Waimarama. Wish we had come to this place earlier or stayed longer. ... read more

Update on my leg. I was advised last Thursday that I can start to put weight on my foot/moon boot, that's great news! I go in for surgery on Tuesday - a minor procedure to remove one screw. After this procedure and the week or so it will take for the wound to heal I can start to more fully enjoy the beach - water here I come... Today we went to Browns Bay, swimming was not yet in my agenda so I sat back and enjoyed the shade of a tree and the cool breeze. I've posted a photo of the beach and weather... yes you in the northern hemisphere should be jealous of the warm summer weather.... Hope all is well for you. ... read more

2 weeks in NZ was relaxing but at the same time felt busy. The main purpose of this visit back home was to see family and friends, and two special events Sarah & Geoff's wedding and meeting little Hugo born about 3mths ago making Scott an Uncle. I arrived first in NZ and went straight out the door again for Sarah's Hens Night, we stayed at The Westen Lighter Quay (a superb hotel on Auckland's waterfront) and after a lovely lunch waterside we headed off to cup cake decorating class. After that a few games back at the hotel then off to dinner. The day was good fun and a success. The wedding itself was lovely, the day was bright, sunny and hot. It was very relaxed around at the Cassidy's preparing but it all got ... read more

So after two weeks I found a job in Auckland. Just casual work to help pay the bills and fund the holiday activities. Won't really be reviewing that side of my life here. It is working with children and twice we went to Long Bay and twice I never got to see the beach, curiosity was getting the better of me. Long Bay is only 30 minutes from Auckland and be warned it is a very popular beach and gets NZs version of crowded. We had to drive all the way to the end to find a parking space but we came in the afternoon after lunch and still found space to park so I think that is pretty impressive. It was a sunny Sunday so we were not that surprised. I am sorry but I ... read more

Wednesday, October 14th We had to wait till noon before we could withdraw the rest of the cash that we needed to buy our van. With the strange inconsistency of available funds in the last few days we were worried that we would not be able to get the amount we needed. Luckily our fears were unfounded and after getting the cash we set off to collect our van in Papakura. Finally! We bought our own van! We had been waiting for this day for three weeks. We are now the proud owners of a black 1995 Nissan Caravan we named "Boesman". It has a 2.7L diesel engine with 190 000km on the odo. Talita had to drive it back while Ferdi drove Nicols car. Talita was off to a dubious start when she reversed with ... read more

Sunday, October 11th We woke to a gorgeous, sunny, Sunday morning. Nicol made a big egg, hashbrowns, bacon and toast breakfast. Afterwards we borrowed his car and drove to the far side of the city again. We were going to see a campervan that looked great on the website. Through some misunderstanding we ended up waiting for more than an hour for the owner to pitch up. When we saw the camper we were not impressed. It is ancient and has a weird column shifter for changing gears. It has a pop-top which is great cause you can stand upright inside the van when it is up, but after a test drive we "did not feel it". There was another van we wanted to check out while we were in the area. We took an instant ... read more

Tuesday, October 6th Just when we had packed away most of our cold weather stuff winter decides to come back with a vengeance. Not only was there a mad gunman on the loose in the central north island, the snow also closed two roads down there. When Ferdi went downstairs to get some of our winter clothes he found a pamphlet given to us by mom Corné months before we left. It deals with the periods between the seasons of life. We realized that this is exactly where we find ourselves now. We are "between seasons", a frustrating, confusing and uncertain time. The advice is to spend much time with the LORD and rest in Him, remembering all that He has done for us and finding what He has planned for our future. We had been ... read more
